Any proper grandma-chic lady worth her salt owns at least one journal in which to pen her thoughts. Computers are nice, but nothing beats the scritchy-scratch sound of a pen running across a page. Now, the appearance of the journal is important. Grandma chic ladies walk the line between old fashioned and modern almost as well as they walk in their heels, so the journal must be fun, modern, and never dowdy or solemn. This is why we simply can’t resist the journals made by Natalie Post of Olive Manna. The former web designer turned shop owning mom to twins is tempting us silly with her latest endeavor: pattern design.
But even if you aren’t grandma chic (don’t worry, we’ll work on that) you’d still be hardpressed to find a sweeter journal. I mean, really. Zigzags? This isn’t a journal, it’s a confection, albeit one with bite. This is a sweet treat that will last–hardcovered with 250 lined, creamy pages–just the right size to satiate the hunger for creativity.
Olive Manna is giving away one zigzagged journal in the color of your choice. Olive Manna is also generous extending a 15% discount to all The Bright Side Project readers through the month of July! Just use coupon code Brightside to receive your discount. In order to win today’s journal please answer the following question by Sunday, July 5, 2009.
My dad most reminds me of Hugh Grant. My mom, Sally Field. What famous person or character, dead or alive, reminds you of your parents?
Please start checking the winner’s box on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 to see if you won. Good Luck!

Cooking is such a big part of my dad’s life that I always think of him when I’m watching the Food Network so I think his famous perseon would be the lovechild of Paula Deen’s southerness and Bobby Flay’s no-nonsense attitude. And my daddy could totally school Bobby Flay in a jambalaya or chicken stew Throwdown.
My Dad is Boby Dylan because they look very similar and dad used to love to play the piano and sing Dylan songs for me when I was young. My mom was such a special person and I can’t think of a single person that she reminds me of other than herself.
My dad reminds me of Kenny Rogers. They both look similar and have aged similarly too. For a recent Christmas gift, I got my dad tickets to a Kenny Roger’s concert. He loved it!!
Strangely enough, my mum reminds me of Oprah. And a little of Cher. If either one of them had gone to secretarial college in the 60’s and ended up as office administrators, then, yeah, they’d be my mum.
My mother reminds me of Lucile Ball. She is hilarious and always doing crazy things that get her into trouble with my stepdad. I think a little bit of her goofiness rubs off on me and that’s ok with me. Everyone needs a little laugh in their day-to-day life and she is the PeRFECT nanna to my 3 year old son. He just loves her and loves laughing with her. Thanks for the give away!
My mom reminds me of Woody Allen, not her looks but her neurotic personality she is always worried about something but it comes off so endearing. My dad reminds me of himself… he is unique in his own way. Sometimes I see celebrity traits that remind me of him but not one person is like him.
My mom is a mix of Paula Deen and Rosanne Barr lol. My dad looks a bit like Alan Jackson.
haha! my parents remind me of the focker parents in ‘meet the fockers’! ! ! they will always tell you how it is, forget any shy verbal inhabitions in front of their kids and totally love and support us unconditionally!
My mum IS Marge Simpson, right down to that ‘hmmmmm’ noise she makes.
You will know my parents if you watch “Everybody loves Raymond”, My parent are Deborah’s parents (traveling to Vietnam, loving odd art, liberal and active) and my inlaws are Rays’ (tv, cooking and conservative)
My dad is John Ritter, all the way. Hilarious, goofy, immature, yet intelligent and super sweet. And I’m sure the similarity is the reason I was so broken up when John Ritter had died.
My parents are definitely the Costanzas (from Seinfeld). They talk over one another non stop and riding in a care with them is just like being in the middle of a sitcom. They are quirky and unique, truly one of a kind… and I love them.
The older my dad gets the more he reminds me of Einstein. Which makes me laugh. Out loud. For my mom – all I can think is Mortimer Snerd. No! She doesn’t look – or act, for that matter – like him. But whenever she’s having a bad hair day, she’ll say, “I look like Mortimer Snerd!” Now it’s stuck – and it’s all I can think. Sigh.
My mom reminds me a little bit sometimes of Kitty off of That 70s Show. Not all the time, but she has her moments. And my dad? Well… My dad has had a mustache for over 30 years, and he’s always reminded me a bit of Tom Selleck, and Burt Reynolds.
My mother reminded everyone of Jackie Kennedy. She was always being told that. My dad on the other hand was very handsome, but really didn’t remind us of any one else. He was just a wonderful man . He and I had a very special relationship and I miss him very much.
My dad reminds me of Rodney Dangerfield in Back to School. Lou, pack the car! He is very outgoing and loves to be the center of attention. Always telling funny stories and getting into some outrageous sitautions but always keeping on the lookout for mine and my brother’s wellbeing and just want us to both be happy (and now our significant others as well!)
Hmmm…My parents aren’t really like anything I’ve ever seen or read about before…there are bits of them that echo people (my mom’s care for other people, my dad’s stubbornness) but nothing that emulates them entirely.
My dad is totally Mr. Rogers, and my mom…well, I don’t know that I’ve ever pinned her as a notable character. Although there should be one after her. She is high energy, has a contagious laugh, and is the nicest, most hospitable person you’ll ever meet.
My mom is 100% Claire Huxtable, and my dad is totally Ned Beatty. A match made in heaven!
My dad looks nothing like Liam Neeson. However, we rented “Taken” as a family (not the best choice if you ever want to travel again as a young female), and throughout it, my mom kept whispering, “He’s your dad! That’s him!” and started crying. I couldn’t figure this out until after the movie when she said, “If someone ever took one of you [me or my sister], your dad would never stop looking for you and would spend all the money we have finding you.” Using a box office thriller from 2008 as a point of reference for my father’s love isn’t how I’d usually go about expressing my feelings, but maybe I cried–a little–too after when I thought of it some more?
Dad, well not sure – never met the guy, so maybe Kevin Bacon in the Hollow Man. My mom, maybe Kathy Bates…
omg, this is such a great/funny question because my sister and i have talked about this on several occasions! i mean this in the most endearing way: my dad looks and acts like jack nicholson in “as good as it gets”. he has the same furrowed brow look that jack has in the movie’s poster and that same softie-under-the-grumpiness that jack does in the movie. my mom has always reminded us of ali macgraw’s character, jennifer cavalleri, in “love story”. nerdy, smart, sassy girl who’s incredibly grounded and loving.
My mom looks like the woman on the Sunmaid raisin box. The lady with the long dark hair and the basket full of grapes? Yeah. They’re the same person. I swear she posed for that picture when Sunmaid needed a covergirl.
My dad is definitely Morgan Freeman…demeanor, appearance, mannerisms…yup!
Ooh, tough. I don’t think I’ve ever though about this before….
hmmm, I guess Lucy Liu for a young version of my mom — beautiful, yet one tough lady you woudn’t want to run into in a dark alley.
My dad…I’ll go with a mixture of Tom Hanks and Jim Carrey
Clint Eastwood reminds me of my dad. He’s got a very rugged and tough guy exterior. The movie Grand Torino screams dad. And recently Farrah Fawcett reminds me of my mom. They both lost their battle to cancer recently. Farrah’s story reminds me of my moms.
My dad – paul sorvino and don king. He looks like paul sorvino (but his hair sometimes in wind, ends up standing up on his head like don king!)
For my mom – i think sally field/helen hunt….not a southern accent, but she has a warm and spunky vibe to her.
My mom looks so much like Deidre Hall (aka Marlena Evans on Days of Our Lives) it’s hilarious! People often tell her on the street that she looks like they lady from “days”. We love to tease her about it because she’s not really a soap fan. I have always thought of my dad as a Robert Redford type.
My mom is exactly like Cybill Shepard and my dad passed away when I was young, all I have are pictures of him in the 70’s and 80’s so indie rockers with shaggy hair and big beards always remind me of him.
All through my youth my mother dressed exactly like uma thurman in pulp fiction – same haircut and everything. She also used to dance, just like uma, in our kitchen all the time. She lamented how “lame” she was, even though we all thought she was so beautiful – and then when pulp fiction came out and was such a big hit, and people told her all the time she looked like uma, she was so proud that she was cool. it makes me smile to think of it, how she wanted to be a part of our “coolness”, when she was cool all along.
My dad looks exactly like Alex Trebek of Jepordy, everyboday says so. His personality is like Jay Leno. My mom looks like Ann Margaret in every way.
My dad – Sylvester Stallone, hands down. He’s a fifty-something sports fanatic who played semi-pro football just a couple years ago along with a bunch of 20-yr olds… The lastest Rocky movie totally made me tear up; that’s how much he reminds me to Stallone. Big and buff, but soft underneath. And looks very similar.
My dad reminds me of John Wayne with his walk but Jack Lemmon in Grumpy Old Men with his personality. My mom reminds me of Deborah on Everybody Loves Raymond. She is the backbone of stability in the family.
My mom is the spitting image of Geena Davis circa A League of Their Own. Same everything. Can of disturbing actually. My dad is more like the excentric grand-father in Jurassic Parc minus the dinosaurs (and dark haired Robert Redford). He ’s doing is thing even tought some time it is reckless. I love them like that.
My dad was a ringer for Tim Curry. My aunt is very much Diane Keaton. But my mom? No one. Seriously. My mom is her own show, her own movie, her own celebrity. They should build a ‘Truman Show’ around her.
people always said my dad looked like merle Haggard; I can’t think of anyone my mom reminds me of, but she can bake cookies and brownies–don’t ask her to make steak
Dustin Hoffman reminds me of my dad. My dad resembles him when he takes off his glasses. But they both seem to have a goofy, lively personality.
My dad reminds me of Mr. Bean. He looks quite a lot like him; the resemblance can be uncanny. My mom, she kinda reminds me of Bette Midler she just loud and funny and commands a room whenevre she enters it.
My Dad reminds me of Danny Tanner (full house) – caring, awkward and nerdy. My Mom is Sofia (Estelle Getty) from the Golden Girls. Neither of them look anything like the celebs, but their personalities are spot-on!
