We love a good old-fashioned success story, and if there is a little romance tossed in–all the better. Juan Cano emigrated from Colombia and found himself working in a New York City sweatshop in the diamond district for 18 months. Andrea worked in textile design. They met, married, and created Caja Jewelry (caja means box in Spanish but is also a combination of their names) a line of jewelry that celebrates a love of nature and New York City.
Creating a line around such a dichotomy of interests may seem difficult, but fans of the irreverent line will assure you it there is nothing better. With tongue firmly in cheek, the Canos have created quirky pendants like The Bomb, Puzzle Piece, the more nature-inspired The Fern, and, my favorites, Ribs and Anatomical Heart. This is to say nothing about their fantastic nameplate necklaces (yes, they do custom). Each piece is cut by hand and made from recycled sterling silver, giving this story the perfect happy ending.
Caja Jewelry is giving away ONE charm necklace to TWO lucky winners. Winners choice! In order to win, please answer the following question by Saturday, September 5, 2009.
If you could be invisible for a day, who would you follow around and why?
Please start checking the winner’s box on Wednesday, September 9, 2009. Good Luck!

Ryan Reynolds. I think the why is pretty clear…..he’s hilarious and hot.
I would actually follow around my little sister. She’s so fun around the family, but she also thinks she’s way too cool for us. I think seeing her around her friends would be interesting.
I’d like to follow around a little kid for day. I don’t have any particular one in mind but any spunky child in that 4-7ish range would be so fun. I’d love to see the world how they see it and try to recapture that imagination and awe. And I love the way they think and process things – it can be hilarious!
If I could follow anyone around invisibly for a day, I think I’d track Ian McEwan, my favorite contemporary novelist. I know he’s probably not busy banging away at a typewriter all the time, so I don’t assume I’d be able to peek on the next novel, but if I could see the world the way he does for just one day, I think everything would be opened up in a new way to my eyes. His talent at seeing the small things that really make big differences in the world is unbelievable and I only wish I could take that vision and point it toward my life…
If I was invisible for one day, I wouldn’t follow anyone around. I would pick a bunch of flowers, biscuits and nice cards, and then I would put them into the bag, lap, cash machines, car, and hands of stranger who seem to need some moral support. Then I would watch, delighted. Come to think of it, I don’t need to be invisible to do that! ;)
I would follow my kids around at school and see how their days are spent and if it is really as rough as everyone says it is in school these days. If the other kids were mean, I’d fix them an extra good snack that day when they got home.
President Obama. I would love to get a glimpse at the real person behind the politics. I would also love to learn more about how he conceptualizes his policies.
I’m sure I’m not the only one, but I’d definitely follow Barack Obama around for a day. I’ve always wondered what a day in the life of a president is like. Must be busy!
I think I would like to follow Oprah around for a day! She’s an amazing woman, how does she do it all? I’d want to check out what a regular Oprah day is like, check out what her business day is like, check out what the new Oprah book or favorite things will be, check out Stedman, and frolic with her puppies!
My friend Roxanne, because she is so cool that I’m sure she must have some secrets up her sleeve. Following her around invisibly may help me learn those secrets.
It’s wrong and voyeuristic of me, but I wish I could be invisible and follow around my boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend. The reason for this is that when my boyfriend and I first became friends he was still going with this girl. She and I actually became friends by talking, but I never met her in person because she and my boyfriend were together long distance. I didn’t know at the time that she and my boyfriend had an incredibly destructive relationship until he started breaking down and crying to me whenever she hurt him. I’d like to follow her because I’m curious to see how she acts in her other relationships, and actually see her as a real human person instead of this mythical deity who had the power to destroy things that she said she loved. I just want to know what she’s like.
I would follow Bob Dylan whom I have loved since the fifth grade. I’d want to see what a typical day is like for him. What does he DO? What kinds of things does he talk about with his friends? And I’d get to see a concert for free!
I would go follow my children around their first day of school next week to make sure they were okay.
I would follow around my sister. I think she is one of the most undervalued treasures out there and I would love to follow her around so I could understand all of the things she does to help people on a daily basis.
I probably wouldn’t really need to be invisible for this, but I’d follow around my little sister. She just started a year of service in a economically depressed town in Colorado. First, I’d just love to spend a day seeing her, since I miss her lots. Secondly, I would just love to see her impact on people. Even though I’m so proud of her, my heart could just burst, I think it’d be fascinating to really see what her situation is like, because I know she’s far too modest to ever convey it to the rest of us.
My husband and daughter…I’d love to know what they’re up to while I’m at work!
Follow someone?! I would be robbing banks!
Hahahaha. Robbing banks, that’s probably what I’d be doing too. :P
I would love to walk through people’s houses. It tells so much about people to see how they live. It would be fun to go into the neighbors house you have never been invited in, or tour the great big houses with gates you can’t get past.
I’d just spend time with myself giving, while giving in to all my secret urges….:)
I would follow the band RX Bandits. They are so talented and creative, I would love to see what happens off stage!!
I would follow my son around. I would to see how he acts at school.
Thanks
Hands down, my husband! I’m not ashamed :) I would make sure he was behaving LOL!
OK, it’s gonna sound a bit “snob”, but I’d follow the king/queen/prince/princess of my country. I actually know their lives aren’t a fairytale, but I really want to see by myself if their days are so bad and tired as I suppose.
And I’d love to know how they are when at evening finally arrive at their homes; if they, like me, kick off the shoes and sit on the sofa and watch TV…
It would have to be someone I didn’t know, because I can’t keep my mouth shut and wouldn’t be able to avoid bringing up something embarrassing that a family member did when they thought no one was looking. So I would follow around Ruth Reichl. I read her memoirs on being a food critic, and I would LOVE to eat at the restaurants with her and see her prepare her crazy costumes beforehand. I’d love to “meet” those she encounters on a daily basis, even if those people didn’t know I was there, being that I was invisible. :)
I’d flolow the queen around just to see if she breaks wind, like everybody else! Or is it just me that does this? ;-)
President Obama! I’d love to hear about the insider knowledge and what the public isn’t exposed to.
If I were invisible for a day first I would call in sick to work. I don’t think they’d really understand being invisible, it’d be best not to go in. Then I would walk over to the zoo…probably best I don’t drive…I think that’d freak other drivers out…if I must, I’d take public transportation. Once at the zoo, I’d follow around all of the zoo keepers. I’ve always been so envious of how close they get to be to so many beautiful creatures! And then, I’d fulfill one item on my “bucket list”! I’d touch a tiger. Hopefully I’m invisible to animals as well!!!
This may sound odd, but I would go watch my old, lost, unrequited love. I’d watch him for a day, not to be creepy or spy on him or see if I ever come up in his life the way reminders of him pop up in mine. Rather, to see his smile again, hear his voice and his laugh that I’ve forgotten. To study the way he moved, how he felt…and possibly steal my favorite sweater he used to wear. I think that would be good enough for my heart.
If I were invisible I would spy on my friend’s father. He says that he is a forest scientist, but is always taking ‘business’ trips to places like Russia, and she swears that once she saw him empty a bag of candy out on his bed after a trip and there was a computer chip inside. I want to see if he is really a spy!
hmmmm i think i would just stay in a semi public place all day where people think they are alone and then watch all the silly things that different people will do in public when they think noone else is around
I’d actually also choose to follow my little sister, who I don’t get to see very often. She’s in cooking school a few hours away, and I’d love to see how her baking & pastry class is going! Plus my mom would love a picture of my sister in her chef pants, chef hat, chef apron – I think you see where this is headed – and it would be a perfect opportunity, since she’ll never let us take such a picture.
I’d try to make the world a little better and I’d follow around the most dangerous person causing pain to our contry then when I became visible the next day I could tell everything I had found out to the authorities.
I think I’d follow many people, maybe even strangers I met in the street, just to see glimpses of their lives, glimpses of the persons they are when they think no-one is watching and they don’t have to pretend to be *someone* they’re not. I think that would be inspiring.
I love your necklaces. Especially the leaves necklace and the oak tree necklace at your shop. So cute!
If I could be invisible for the day I would follow Reese Witherspoon. I have been a huge fan of hers for 17 years now and it would be interesting to see what a day in her life is like. She always seems so put together and professional and I’d love to see her in her normal routine. Kids, boyfriend, jogging, work, etc. I think it would be interesting. Not very glamorous or exciting but it would work for me!
I would follow K.D. because I found out a little over a week ago that she betrayed our friendship of over 40 years and I want to see if she’s hurting as much as I am by the knowledge that I know about it.
My fiance. He’s in the Navy on a submarine and I want to know what he does all day long.
I would follow Holly from the blog “decor8″ around. She just relocated to Germany and is setting up her new life there. It is so exciting reading about her move plus she has such great style since she’s a designer that I think in a day I could get a vacation from my mundane llife while shopping and picking up a few great design tips.
I would follow my favorite photographer around to learn their tips and tricks.
I would follow around the neighborhood cat, and see exactly WHAT a cat does all day.
Alexander Skarsgard, because True Blood has made him my new obsession….don’t judge me…
