the small object featured on the bright side project!

{please visit The Small Object here}

Today we are going to study economics.  Don’t worry, we’ll save the quantitative analysis for someone who knows how to use all the fancy buttons on finance calculators.  Instead, we’ll briefly discuss the handmade movement and why The Bright Side Project features independent artists alongside large, household brands and corporations.  To make a long explanation short: we believe in inspired ideas, editorial collections, and the thrill of finding something fabulous.  And, we believe you can find those illusive qualities in something very big, or someone very small.

Sarah Neuburger of The Small Object may not be small by some standards.  Neuburger’s work has been published in six books, countless magazines, and in most–if not all–of the most sought after online publications and blogs.  In the evolving eco-system of the craft and artisan community, Neuburger remains a large fish.  Why?  It could be her masters degree from the School of Visual Arts, perhaps.  Or her charming way of creating everyday items that are both lovely and eccentric.  Or the thoughtful way she engages her audience.  It could be one of these things, none of these things, or a complicated combination of the three that adds up to the nebulous “it” everyone wants.  That’s the funny thing about economics–it’s perfectly okay to admit you don’t know how it works except to say you know something great when you see it, no matter the size.

The Small Object is giving away one Limited Edition Chalkboard Alphabet Print (Supply and Demand!) and Be With Me Bookmark to one lucky winner.  In order to win, please answer the following question by Sunday, October 4, 2009.

Given that alphabets are awesome, what is your favorite letter and word that begins with that letter?

Please start checking the winner’s box on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 to see if you won. Good Luck!

    M is for Miscellaneous. I love that word. Don’t know why. Use it all the time. M always looks beautiful monogrammed, too. And that, I think, is the crowning achievement for a letter. :)

    Q for QAT. Everyone seems to hate getting the letter Q in the game of SCRABBLE. That letter and that word (along with QOPH) are winners for me; I can’t remember losing a game of SCRABBLE when I’ve played the letter Q.

    p.s. QAT and QOPH are accepted words in SCRABBLE. QAT is a Middle Eastern shrub and QOPH is a letter in the Hebrew alphabet.
