J. DAVIS STUDIO
{please visit J. Davis Studio here}
I kid you not: Miss B. and I were lamenting the lack of accessories this month when into our inbox dropped an email from Jill Davis, the “J” behind J. Davis Studio, an independent jewelry studio in Brooklyn, New York. Folks, this is why you need to send us submissions when you think you have (or have found) something on theme. Miss B. is good–amazing, even–at scouting the latest and greatest, but you need twelve pairs of eyes and arms to find everything fabulous the world has to offer.
Miss B. and I were immediately charmed with the J. Davis Studio collection of jewelry. Sweet houses, fluffy little trees, and even the occasional neighborhood wait patiently to adorn you neck, fingers, and ears in gold or silver. The concept is big, but the actual pieces are petite little things that showcase Davis’s BFA in metalsmithing from Syracruse and Associate’s degree in jewelry design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Yes, we were quite thrilled to hear from Davis. We only wish when our real doorbells ring we can open it to an independent jewelry designer selling houses instead of someone else selling windows.
J. Davis Studio is giving away to one winner any piece in her shop, value limit $100. In order to win, please answer the following question by Wednesday, November 4, 2009.
If you could pick up your home and move it anywhere in the world, where exactly would it be?
Please start checking the winner’s box on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 to see if you won. Good Luck!

Honestly right now about 10 blocks east of where it is now. I love my neighborhood and my kids school. I would just rather be a litlte farther from my busy street :)
I haven’t found that place yet. I’ll let you know, the search is on! :)
I already did…to exactly where I want to be!! Well, I didn’ pick up the actual house, but everything in it, as well as all that means “home” to me. Two years ago I packed it all up and moved it from Busy Southern California to the beautiful and peaceful Pacific Northwest. Wouldn’t go back for ANYTHING!!
north carolina – close to the beach
Walking distance to the beach in Pismo. But far enough from neighbors that I don’t get the noises we get here in the city.
Chicago, Illinois. It’s where I grew up and although there are so many exotic places I would love to explore, I miss the familiarity of that city.
oaxaca mexico. the food, the weather, the ambiance. wow, it’s amazing
San Francisco.
At the moment, we live in London (we’re British born and bred!) which is obviously a wonderful city. But having just had a baby the idea of biking round the bay, eating the best chowder at Fishermans Wharf and day trips to the beach make we want to move ASAP!
It’s a city with such a special vibe, can’t be beaten!
A beach on the coast in the South of France.
I would move it to a nearby neighborhood, called Sellwood, that is on the Willamette river and has wonderful places to walk. It’s close to Portland, OR.
I would move it near the North Shore of Hawaii’s island of Oahu. Where I could look out at the ocean each day. And take strolls along the beach. And if it begins to rain, I won’t worry, because it will still be warm and once the rain stops, I’ll dry off right away. The warm sun will comfort me. And hearing the ocean will be soothing and take almost any worries away.
If I had the power to pick up my home and move it, then I would move it all the time! I would live for a little while with a perfect view of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Then I would pick it up and put it next door to Buckingham Palace, so the Queen and I would be neighbors. I’d spend some time living on a vineyard in Florence, Italy, and then down to the Gulf of Mexico for the winter.
I was lucky enough to study abroad in Thailand for six months during my undergraduate years in college. To escape the heat and constant action of Bangkok, I travelled to the northern part of Thailand to a small town named Pai (pronounced like the food we all love to eat…’pie’). The town sits on the Pai River and is surrounded by breathtaking countryside and mountains. There are only a few main roads, which are lined with quaint cafes and shops. As you walk down the streets, you are overwhelmed by the smell of fresh food and produce that is available from street vendors. Everyone you walk by gives you a warm smile and the best way to travel the city is by bicycle.
It seems that if you lived there for a while…it would turn into one of those places where “everybody knows your name.” Life just seemed a little bit more simple in this town…..and it would certainly be nice to pick up and move to this slower, more peaceful lifestyle.
I would love to move my home to the centrl coastal range of Oregon…it’s like a cool rainforest! The ferns are lush, the wildlife plentiful and it’s soooo quiet.
I would love to move my home to a quiet little spot in Tuscany, and indulge my dream of a big garden with those huge English tea roses (the ones that look as if the bud exploded open) and lots of veggies and herbs. If not, then maybe a smaller house in a quiet part of argentina.
I would move my home to South Carolina. I would love to live in the south somewhere along the ocean. It would be so peaceful and beautiful.
Washington State. I love it there and miss living somewhere with 4 seasons.
I would move my house, and my life, to Neverland. That way I could avoid all of my silly grown-up responsibilities and just worry about enjoying the little, simple things. Every day would be an adventure and I could fly all night “straight on til morning.” And when I awake each morning, I will be surrounded by magic, and mystery and all of my wonderful cartoon friends.
Anywhere that is warm enough that I can get a second coat of paint on my house and not have to look at splotchy yellow and primered trim all winter.
I went to Greece for my honeymoon a few years ago and love the country so I’d move there!
Ireland. All the men are gorgeous and all the women are not. Heaven.
Paris. I spent only three days there in college, but it was enough for me to fall in love.
On a hill over looking the ocean on one side and a valley on the other. MENTAL PICTURE On the ocean side of the house there is a beautiful sunset, the air is crisp and cold, because it is fall. Walk around to the other side and the Valley down below has hundreds of changing trees of reds, yellows, oranges, and browns.
On top of a bluff in the Loess hills. I would love to be perched up high and looking down at all the beautiful scenery.
New Orleans.
But I would prefer to live in one of the buildings that is already there. They are just incredible.
I would love to live in Paris for a while. I can’t imagine how it’s possible, but it doesn’t hurt to hope!
