RUBY FIG

Sunday, December 6, 2009

rubyfigSeems like some of the best businesses are started to fill a void in the market. I love to hear stories of a shopper who searches and searches for the perfect “fill in the blank here” to no avail and then decides to take matters into their own hands.  Said shopper then scours the globe until finding just what they need and then fills that market void for themselves and other searchers.  Soon many like them flock to their storefront making shopper and shop keep blissfully happy.  It is the business version of a knight in shining armor!

In today’s fairy tale Nathalie Wheldon is the heroine and the Ruby Fig is her castle.  A jewelry designer and “thing maker” by nature Nathalie was often frustrated by the lack of findings that would make collectible jewelry come to life.  She made it her quest to find the most glamorous, delicate, intricate, and unique beads, baubles and trims for both her own work and yours.  Knowing that the time, effort and love put into each project is worth only the best materials Nathalie spends her days in glamorous spots like dusty warehouse floors in search of forgotten treasures.  Through Ruby Fig, she strives to provide inspiring materials and a welcome retreat to fuel your creative endeavors. Any crafter will delight in the glass beads, vintage crystals, couture sequins and antique ribbons that abound at Ruby Fig–just imagine the fairy tale you could create with Nathalie’s help!

One entrant will a $50 gift certificate to the Ruby Fig where their imagination can go wild!  For your chance to win please answer the question below by Sunday, December 13, 2009.

My crayon would be that clear turquoisey yellow that you see in the sky at sunset. It’s so incredible, I have to stop and wonder every time I see it. I think I’d call it Transition.

    Eileen says:

A crayon?…I want to create the whole box! The color I want to create is called “Burgundy Rose” and it is a deep burgundy with a little silver shimmer like dewdrops…and it would have the scent of a rose! It would be a part of the “Garden Series Crayons.” Each color with a different scent from the garden: flowers, evergreen, even good rich soil!

  3. 53
    Teresa says:

My crayon color would be called “pomegranate seed” and it would be the same gorgeous deep purpleish red color of the inside of a perfectly ripe pomegranate. Ooh, and it would smell just as good too! And using it would provide rich antioxidants!

  4. 54
    Zom says:

Beet Sparkle! It would be that gorgeous, jeweled, variegated (juicy reds to near-black) hue of uncooked, freshly cut beets. To mimic the play of natural light, there would be incredible flecks of silvery-gold throughout. I would love this crayon so much that I would order a crate-full of it and hand some to my toddler and tell him to go crazy on the walls. (Side Note: Maybe the answer to parental frustrations with unsolicited “wall-art’ is not making crayons that require special paper to leave a mark, but to make such gorgeous colors that moms & dads would be delighted to see them appear in their living spaces!)

    Jen says:

Eco funfetti. A little surprise in every white crayon. Little bits of fuschia and royal blue and green and silver. Fantastically entertaining, beautiful to color with, and a super duper way to use up those broken bits that never make the “cut” in the factory.

I introduce you to my lovely crayon, Victoria Rose.

This exclusive piece of colour has 2 layers which were inspired upon Queen Victoria. The outside presents a candy-hard layer of a delicate but austere black, while the filling indulges your senses by presenting a rose-scented smooth and deep shade of pink, which resembles the colour of rose petals left to dry in the sun.

My crayon, called “Third Stripe from the Bottom, Reflected”, would be the first in a 24-pack Designer Line box, setting the tone for the future Picassos, Monets, Gaudis the world over. It would have a series of layers going all the down in the following order:

    - pale lavender
    - ballet slipper pink
    - glowing fuschia

It would be the color of the line where sea melts into sky along the horizon. If you really look at it, you can see sea is not merging imperceptibly into sky : there’s a space where it’s not sea nor sky, there’s a space where all the softness of the universe lies. It’s not grey, not blue, not white. It’s bliss.

    I would call it Humanity.

    Rusty Car Door.

It would be a warm, deep, antique orange-red. I don’t especially like the rust spot on my car, but it is an awfully pretty color with a lot of character and a bit of a story behind it. What coloring book doesn’t need that?

  34. 84
    Patricia says:

I’d make a crayon called Paige for my girly girl daughter. She is the type of girl that loves her tutu and wants to wear it to soccer practice. Her crayon would be magenta with a glitter swirl and a layer of purple, wrapped in a soccer ball print paper.

Peace and Quiet. It would be a shimmery blue with a hint of gold. You could draw it on walls and make masterpieces, on your face for a night out, and on your roof to make heavenly clouds to sink in to.

my favorite hue to paint with is called “burnt sienna” it is a warm rusty brown that when diluted or mixed with a little white creates this almost burnt peach color. 44. 94
    Valerie says:

I would make a really good skin color. Whenever I would try to color people in my coloring books, there was never a good skin color for any ethnicity. I guess I would need a whole “skin” line of colors.

Sugar-pink satin. A smooth soft pink with a hint of shimmer and a touch of softness. This is the color I created as a child. Every short story I wrote, or princess I imagined was always wearing a “sugar-pink” satin gown. It’s envisioned in a dream and I would love it to become a reality!

  47. 97
    Martina says:

Riboflavin. It’s a vitamin that’s purpose is entirely mysterious to me. And yet it’s featured prominently in my breakfast cereal. So I would create a yellow-dun color (to match my cheerios) and name it after the mighty Riboflavin.
