HOPE FOR HAITI
First, I want to preface this post by expressing our gratitude. I have always felt that the BSP readers were a little bit more ’special’ than the average blog reader. I have already witnessed above average intelligence and creativity, some of sharp wit and some that posses the ability to be so honest it can bring tears to your eyes. I have long suspected that a lot of you, maybe even most come here not just to win a prize but because of the community and to support those generous enough to donate their goods. I know that you are the type of individuals that appreciate life just a little more than your cubicle mate, it’s your little secret and what gets you through the day. You know that life is precious and you live your life with that in mind. You have astounded me with your generosity, many of the featured artists this week sold out of their goods and I know it because of YOU. Those that are in a position to not help financially spread the word and for that we are grateful. You are amazing and unique souls and we are lucky for your visits.
There was another 6.0 aftershock in Haiti this week and they are saying it will take years to re-build. The destruction is something we can not fathom and we are lucky to have roofs over our heads, clean water and food. The majority of the images above are from a pop up store called Hearts for Haiti, 100% of the proceeds will go to relief efforts. We also want to make a mention of former contributors Green Eyed Monster and Ban.do who are also offering a percentage of their sales to the effort. It all helps. We aren’t suggesting you buy something if you don’t have the funds, we just ask that if you need/have to buy something this week for a friend, family member (or yourself) to try to see if one of these companies might not be as good or better than one that is not donating to the relief. We will leave this up all weekend, please let people know. If you would like to donate directly to some organizations NPR has a great list here. Monday will be business as usual, but until then we want to again thank you for your support.

hi girls, thanks so much for letting us know about all these great places where we can do our tiny bit to help. i just visited the Hearts for Haiti etsy shop & bought some little things, i’m so proud of all the crafting communities the world over for the way they get together and HELP people out – great job to everyone!

Miss B- what you wrote brought tears to my eyes and gave me that little pang of sad/happy that I get when I’m touched. It’s inspiring really, that you say those things about you readers, because I also see those things as truths. I purchased the Be The Change necklace featured yesterday, and the artist emailed me to express her thanks. She also said she was overwhelmed with the demand of the necklaces- and in a good way.
I believe that you manifest the readers you have because you two are representative of us. You choose contributors that are representative of us. If it wasn’t for your dream of making the world a brighter place, we wouldn’t have this community. Especially in this great time of need for Haiti.
So really, thank YOU for dreaming up this website. I’ll leave with my favorite quote: “Awareness, no matter how minute it may seem, is imperative to changing the world.” -Me.
Thanks so much for bringing these shops and relief efforts to our attention this week. I’ve made a purchase in hopes of making a small contribution to relieve the suffering,
Visiting The Bright Side Project is a favorite daily habit. Yes, it’s delightful to win a prize, but I come primarily because I enjoy the questions, which spark my thinking, and the answers from other readers, which are fascinating in their diversity. Coming here is a great start to my day.
Thanks again for the good work you do.
Thank you for bringing a little sunshine to us all everyday, but more so thank you for sharing all these incredibly talented and generous people to light.
Thank you for doing an often thankless job.
I found you after you left a sweet comment on my blog and I am so glad I did! This is a great site….so wonderful. And it gives me a little lift every time I see you have a new post.
Thanks so much for caring and for bringing these shops to our attention. I still can’t quite grasp the horror of what happened and I wish I could do more than just scramble up all the money I can spare, but it’s lovely to see people all over the world trying their best to help. You are amazing.

I love reading your posts everyday! Thank you for letting us know of these opportunities to help. :)
I figured (really) early Christmas or birthday present shopping is not only giving to friends in the future, but to the people who need it now. Your work to pool together craftspeople and shoppers to benefit those in such dire need in Haiti is outstanding! Thank you–
thanks for helping us spread the word!!!
