Depuis – Decorative Photography

Photography is an amazing tool that encapsulates a moment for eternity. It can document an instant in a very factual, documentary way or it can present an alternate reality reflecting feelings and emotions. One thing for certain a good photographer can record a rainbow of colors and use it to create a work of art.
Having taken her first photos at the young age of seven, Mina Georgescu knows a thing or two about creating photographic art. Georgescu of Depuis Photography hunts for magical places to capture with her lens and infuse with her own style. Her latest collection, “Coney Island and Other Magical Places” is a series of vivid, colorful and lighthearted pieces. Saturated hues, scratches, textures, and blurred motion combine to add a certain charm and nostalgia to each print. The Boardwalk, carnival rides, and beachy scenes comprise this grouping of lively images that are sure to add color and joy to any room they occupy.

a child’s imagination
There used to be a multi-colored Crayola fence in the town I went to the hospital in regularly as a child. It was kind of a tradition…go to the hospital, then go to McDonald’s…the only time I ever got to eat fast food as a kid, and on the way home, we’d pass that fence and I’d stare at it in wonder as we drove by. I vowed I’d have a fence like that someday.
I checked last time I was in town…no more Crayola’s grace that stranger’s lawn. It broke my heart!
a magical place i would like to take photographs of is an antique arcade called musee mecanique. it’s in san francisco and it’s filled with old fortune telling machines, a ferris wheel made out of toothpicks, things that light up and spin, and all sorts of amazing old games to play with that bring you back to yesteryears.
the invisible-to-humans world of faeries :)

I would love to have a picture of the farm we are GOING to have-the barn in the morning light, animals in the pasture, us working in the garden. Just something to hang on the wall and see everyday to remind ourselves what we are working for and looking forward to.
the great-aunt’s summer house in Vermont – we’d stay there every summer as kids and it was heaven! dirt roads, a private lake, an early 20th century home with NO tv, naps in the hammock, cook-outs, kayaking, long walks, etc…just the perfect place to vacation. i miss it dearly!
cinque tere, italy – ideally Monterosso where they have the most divine olive oil…the picture would be of me soaking it all in with a smile!!!!!!!
For me, my magically place is to go back to the apartment where I used to live in when I was younger in the spring when it’s all foggy and look down from the 21st floor and take a picture. It looks like you’re in the sky.
I would take a picture of Horseshoe Bay, BC in Canada. There is a huge rock that hangs over the ocean. You can sit there and watch the sun set over the Pacific.
For all the years I lived in Beijing, I never got the perfect shot of the Great Wall of China. I spent so many days hiking up and down, from tower to tower, and it never lost its magic.
Magical place? .. Botanic garden in Leicester (UK), lovely!
Cedar Point Amusement Park — had an awesome time there as a chaperone with the high school band (and my 2 kids) 2 years ago — was the best : )
hershey park in hershey PA, I lived near-by until i was 11 and we always had season passes every year. i’m not a huge chocolate fan, but i loved chocolate world and the way the they had hershey kiss all over the town. it made you feel like you were in a chocolate dream.
I’d love a glimpse of Shangri La.
flower gardens with gorgeous colors
The farm where my husband and I were married last year … such a beautiful and peaceful place!
I would love to have a picture of Santorini, Greece. That is the most magical place I have ever laid eyes on. Unfortunately, pictures are all I’ve seen, but someday . . .
In Summerville, Georgia, there is a place called Paradise Gardens, created by the late Howard Finster. It’s an amazing example of self-taught, outsider art, and is a fascinating look into one man’s imagination. I’d adore having photographs of it!
i would love a radiograph of my hand with a seahorse standing upright in my palm…
heaven
The Blue Grotto – a tiny little cave on the side of the Isle of Capri off the coast of Italy. I’ve been inside of it, and the color of the water is the most indescribable, glorious blue/aqua color. The only way in is in a tiny rowboat, in which all people in the boat must duck down while we are pulled in by the rower along a chain attached to the rock. The opening is only open every few seconds, when the waves pull away from the island. I would love to have a series of photos of people entering this cave and of the water inside of it.
Port Antonio, Jamaica is the most photographed place in Jamaica despite it’s off the beat feeling. But I’ve never seen a photo that captured the Porty I know and love; it’s a real place, behind the beaches and grottos. That’s what I’d like to see; a picture of my Port Antonio.
I live in Australia and think any of hte islands in North Queensland are magical and would be stunning in photographs.
Wine bottles! I love wine and I love wine bottles. I would love to see a collection of them placed together to capture all the different colors of the glass.
An old forgotten treehouse that has since been taken over by forest animals.
Estes Park, Colorado… my husband and I have taken two vacations there and it is absolutely beautiful! The town in so unique and simple with beautiful mountains in the skyline!
Paris is by far my favorite magical place. Else the beach. I am always transported whenever I am at the beach.
An orchard of cherry trees in full blossom, with their soft pink blossoms falling like snow and blanketing the earth beneath them. Divine.
When I was little I used to collect blown glass animals from Disneyland, I’d love a neat picture of one of those stores and all of it’s glittering friends.
Newport Beach, CA. My grandfather lives there in a house on the beach and since I was a child I remember going every summer to visit. It is heaven on earth to me.
I want a picture of the place deep below the surface of the sea where the mermaids live.
Copa Cabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I visit there 8 years ago and fell in love as soon as I stepped foot in the city. By the time I made it to the beach, I felt like I had found the home I had searched for my whole life.
Sienna, Italy. A beautiful city with amazing architecture. Definitely a magical place.
The home I stayed in during my study abroad program in London. I loved that house!
a photo of my kids and i just about any morning before 7. they climb in our bed for our daily snuggle fest. i’m not sure that i’d ever invite a photographer for such a time, but i sure would love a photo of it, for when these days have passed.
The city street in Marseille where I spent my last $3 on bread, butter and perrier. I was 22 and the world was just opening up.
Disneyland. Hands down. My first trip was when I was 26, and I thought I would hate it. But I didn’t. I loved it. My husband took me for Christmas, and it was the most magical, beautiful, happiest trip of my whole life. I especially love the parade; it made me cry every night.
alaksa…i’m actually planning a visit this summer to try to capture some magical photos.
i can think of so many (though coney island would surely be one):
space
Mars
the Tuscan countryside
the set of “Amelie” specifically Amelie’s apartment
the set of “Atonement” while at the Tallis estate
the bottom of the ocean
