Depuis – Decorative Photography

Photography is an amazing tool that encapsulates a moment for eternity. It can document an instant in a very factual, documentary way or it can present an alternate reality reflecting feelings and emotions. One thing for certain a good photographer can record a rainbow of colors and use it to create a work of art.
Having taken her first photos at the young age of seven, Mina Georgescu knows a thing or two about creating photographic art. Georgescu of Depuis Photography hunts for magical places to capture with her lens and infuse with her own style. Her latest collection, “Coney Island and Other Magical Places” is a series of vivid, colorful and lighthearted pieces. Saturated hues, scratches, textures, and blurred motion combine to add a certain charm and nostalgia to each print. The Boardwalk, carnival rides, and beachy scenes comprise this grouping of lively images that are sure to add color and joy to any room they occupy.

Atlantis.
Hot Water Beach in New Zealand…a group of eclectic travelers in eclectic bathing costumes sitting in their own personal, steaming hot tubs dug in the sand looking out on a turquoise blue Pacific Ocean.
If I could, I would commission a professional photographer to snap the view of the Manhattan skyline from the Brooklyn Promenade, the Brooklyn Bridge featured prominently in the foreground. My son lives in Brooklyn and whenever I visit, this is my ‘magical’ place.
A whale jumping out of waters in Alaska.
The land of Faerie.
narnia
I would love a picture of the croatian sunset over the sea. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen and I would love to look at it everyday!
I grew up on a farm and we used to have a cool, Dutch-style barn. It was so old that it was made with wooden pegs instead of nails. We played for hours in that old barn making hay forts and trying to ride the pigs. It finally went down in a windstorm in the 1980s. I would love to have a photograph of that magical barn.
where I live there is an old stone wall set into a hill side. the opening has an old wooden green door. we have no idea what it was for, but it is really cool!
Disney! No matter what age you are, it is a fun place to visit. It reminds me of my family vacations there and how scared of space mountain I used to be. Now it is an easy ride compared to the more sophisticated ones they have built since. Makes me smile just thinking about it….therefore looking at it everyday would be a nice day brightener.
Some people say they can see colors around a person, their aura. I would love to see a photo of me that captured my aura. What a majical photo that would be.
Casa Bonita in Denver CO. Great childhood memories there — fantastical, brilliant, and some of the worst food you’ve ever tasted!
I would like a photograph of the Penny Candy store in my original hometown, Cortland, Ohio (yes, the town is as small as is sounds). My family moved when I was eight, but I have such vivid memories of the store, which was actually an old house with wood floors and rows upon rows of candy. Since my childhood memories tend to betray me as an adult, I would like the photograph to look just as I saw the store when I was a little girl. That would be truly magical.
I’d love to go to the Wishing Bridge in Neuchâtel, Switzerland.
San Fancisco… or the beach.
The Flying Horses Carousel in Martha’s Vineyard. My husband and I rode the carousel during our honeymoon and it would be a fun way to remember the trip.
I would love to see the Northern Lights and take a picture of them myself!
Wow, is what I have to say about these Coney Island pictures. I have never been but it looks like a place where special childhood memories are created.
I would love photographs of Prague; the history, the culture, the buildings, the people – there is a grand history that could be beautifully told through photographs.
what a great question. i’d love to have photographed my grandfather’s farm in SW france. i was married there this summer, and it truly is a magical place.
Scotland.. anywhere would do really, but perhaps Inverness. I ‘ve always wanted to be there.
If such things could truly capture the splendor of their vision and the magic of their thoughts (The Bright Side Project encourages me to aim high), I would love a photo of the workings of Einstein’s brain. Add to the list those of Benjamin Franklin and Jane Austen, for starters. With their indefatigable curiosity and dedication to the wonders of the head and the heart, they’ve brought us immeasurable utility and joy.
I would so love to have a picture of Wonderland!
Middle-earth.
Sacre Coeur in Paris on a sunny day….
The poetry room at City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco.
Heaven – golden gates, soft clouds, angels everywhere….
The bright pink and green interior of my favourite McDonald’s from when I was a kid. It doesn’t exist anymore, all McDonald’s are generic beige these days, but this interior influenced my entire life.
Atlantis!
Spain!
a shooting star
or
penguins during migration!
Somewhere over the rainbow
I would love to have a beautiful picture of my Porch. Okay…I know. It doesn’t sound that magical but you haven’t been there yet so definitely keep an open mind. I have so many memories and moments that have been amazing and special on that Porch. I have sewn costumes with my girls on that Porch. Late night musical jam sessions have broken out on that Porch. Lazy Sunday afternoons have been spent with my man on that Porch…watching the beach traffic go by. In fact, no one ever says that they are going to “Mel & Trav’s place” they always say they are heading to “The Porch”. It has become a place that has truly created a family of friends. A place that we all find magical.
my best friends beach house on tiki island in texas. its got this magical quality to it-the epic summer house full of memories. so much has happened there for so many people that even though its not some beautiful old house you still get a sense of history as soon as you begin walking up the rickety wooden staircase.
Disneyland – without a doubt :) Thanks for the chance!
My husband (boyfriend at the time) lived in a small dorm at college that somehow got the name, “Narnia.” Every spring, I would visit him during my break, and I’d stay with him in Narnia. It felt like a magical place because it’s really where we fell in love. Amidst the self-serve cereal tubs and lounge area ping-pong table, we’d laugh and enjoy our time together. I never got a photograph that truly captured the spirit and magic of that place and time in our lives, so that’s the photo I’d like to have.
I would love a photo of my entire family playing on the dock at my father’s house on the beautiful Columbia River in Washington. This is our happy place where we go to be with each other and play.
A turn of the century sideshow! The tents with crazy hand-painted signs tempting people to step right up and take a peek at all the curiosities. The bearded lady… The strong man… The Siamese Twins! (I was born waaay too late!)
The most magical place I can think of is a small forest made up of twigs, tiny flowers and ferns, and a mossy carpeted floor. I often imagine a place like this and just want to soak up a piece of sun shining through and breath heavy sweet air. I’d like a picture of that.
My soul…..because right at this moment I feel a transformation……something magical – what a dynamic picture if someone could catch that in a photo. Fantastic photos of coney island. Thank you for the opportunity. P.S. Trish T – I too use to go to Casa Bonita and live in Denver, would be happy to take some pics for you!!!
Wonderland!
I’d love a photo of the Lighthouse on Sanibel Island. We visited 7 or 8 years ago and loved the entire island. I even took a few pictures of the lighthouse. After we got back, my aunt told me that my grandfather had helped to construct the lighthouse and the two houses beside it. I would have taken better pictures had I known.
The New York State Fair…we took our son last summer who wasn’t quite one and saw all the magic through his eyes. He couldn’t get enough of the chickens, loved the horses and cooed at every balloon tied to every stand. I know this year will be even more magical for him as he will be big enough to try some of the rides!
I had a terrible “after school special” kind of childhood. We lived near a small rural cemetary. As a child and young teen I spent untold hours up there, up in the old apple trees reading books, or walking around reading tombstones. My mom is buried up there now, but I do wish I had a picture of Cedar Hill cemetary, back when it was my sanctuary.
Aurora Borealis in Iceland. It would be gorgeous over the mountains, hot springs, or water there.
Well now it’s Coney Island! My goodness, these images look divinely edible! They’re stunningly cheerful and represent every dream one has of a Carnivale! The birds eye view is a new twist that makes me smile :)
Under a grove of bushes in the yard of my childhood home where I played daily. We moved away when I was four so my memories of the place are hazy. I’d love to see it with (or even without!) the imaginary creatures I played with there.
How about one of those salt water taffy joints at the beach. Those miles and miles of stringy taffy that get stretched and stretched then chopped into every conceiveable pastel color and wrapped in wax paper… Yum.
Spain, there are so many old beautiful buildings that I would love to see with my own eyes; since that’s not possible, the next best thing PHOTOGRAPHS!!
The ranch where I grew up in montana. it was not our land and so it is not in our family and I would love to have a professional photo of it to hang in my house now.
