BINK-&-BOO_BSP

{please visit bink & boo here}

by Miss Krista

Thrifted materials, limited edition inventory, bright and sunshiny colors, adorable and unique baby accoutrement, one of a kind pocketbooks…should I continue? Seriously, if I haven’t captured your attention, we need to talk about priorities. Take all of the above and throw in an authentic SoCal aesthetic and you’ve got Bink & Boo created by Bianca Wickers.

Let me tell you a little about Southern California. Do not be fooled by certain television shows and their high-priced myopic lifestyle tendencies. The SoCal I know (having grown up here) is laid back, relaxed, joyful, bright, colorful and warm. So often I find myself disheartened at the absence of the SoCal I know reflected in design and fashion. Bink & Boo had me at ‘handmade.’

Go peek at the g.g. booties. Now head over and check out the sunshine neckerchief. Are you starting to feel it now? Can you smell the ocean breeze? You don’t want to buy baby stuff? Okay, check out the array of pocketbooks and have your own little slice of sunshine right there at your fingertips. I’m partial to the “Peggy” myself, in case you were wondering. I’m swooning over the thrifted fabrics. Swooning.

Bink & Boo is giving away one pocketbook of the winner’s choice. Did I mention that I was partial to the “Peggy?” I did? Okay, carry on.

    Jenn K. says:

I am an ocean person, something about being close to the ocean makes you feel alive. Like you are on the edge of the universe.

  2. 202
    Roberta says:

Ohh…love the “vera”…I guess I’m an ocean/water person…just refreshes me to be near a body of water.

  3. 203
    Caren says:

Lovely! The ‘Peggy’ is indeed worthy of mention.

I’m a tree girl. I’ve been known to hug one or two, too. Birds live in trees, which make them extra special. I can look out my window & watch the trees outside & be truly content with life – I’ll see the chickadees twitter around, the squirrels chase each other up & down, or simply watch the wind move the leaves & branches.

  4. 204
    Isabel says:

I’m a Mediterrean person, so probably I’d be more ocean than anything else XD

  5. 205
    melanie says:

Definitely hands down, no need to ponder.. OCEAN girl. Cold or warm weather – I am the most me when I am near the edge.

  6. 206
    Kelli Reddinger says:

City. Gimme good food, busy streets, hustle and bustle any day of the week!

  7. 207
    Amanda L. says:

Born and raised on the ocean I am a beach girl at heart, but after living in the city for the past two years I found I love the quick pace and having everything from food, to fashion, to the arts at my fingertips! I am now a city girl!

  8. 208
    Leslie says:

I am a farm person. I grew up in a rural town and love the wide open spaces, clean air, and good people that you can find in a farm community. It is what brings me home again and again…energizing me enough to return to city life.

  9. 209
    Kat says:

I’m a beach person. Give me sand, salt air, and no one else in sight! I love being on the beach, swimming in (warm!) water or being on a boat. Hunting for treasures (sea glass or shells) has long been a favorite activity of mine. Now I just tend to wear a big hat and lots of suncreen, but otherwise I act just the same at the beach as I did when I was a kid!

  10. 210
    Jess F says:

Ironically, anywhere you can see evidence of past cultures (i.e. the Colosseum, Matchu Pitchu, Chichen Itza, the Parthenon, etc.) I feel more alive.  Learning about our past lets me know more about our present.  It is amazing how understanding the history of a land can teach you about the current culture.  Having greater understanding of people’s experiences helps me feel more connected to the world, which in turn makes me feel more alive.  I know it’s nerdy but isn’t history wonderful!

  11. 211
    Jeanne says:

Can I get in trouble if I say all of them? I find that when I am outside and exploring, no matter which locale, I am alive with the wonder of just being in that environment. Each has its wonders to share.

  12. 212
    zzipper says:

I love being in the forest.. being surrounded by huge trees that have been living for so very long puts so many things into perspective for me..

  13. 213
    Jennifer says:

I’m definitely a mountain person! The peace and quiet, the amazing view … you can’t beat it!

  14. 214
    Jordan says:

Ocean, I love the serenity of watching the waves splash against the shore during sunrise or sunset.

  15. 215
    Smiling Maia says:

Mountains, best when at some sea. They recover tranquility in myself. Climbing up and then standing on the top makes it easier to sea my everyday reality from a distance, contemplate on it and bring change. Mountains are my soul’s bath :-)

  16. 216
    Susan McA says:

Ironically, I’m a mountain girl. I say ironically, because I grew up 5 minutes from the ocean, but my heart is in the mountains. Nothing is more peaceful + energizing than escaping to the mountains. I’m a hiker at heart.

  17. 217
    Beth HK says:

Luckily, I hail from Seattle which has an abundance of mountains, forests, and an ocean that surround a bustling city, so I don’t have to fore sake one environment for another. For me Seattle will always be home because living here means I never have to choose between camping, swimming, going to plays, hiking, scuba diving, or having a night out on the town.

  18. 218
    Jessica says:

I’m an ocean person. Nothings more invigorating than the salty air, the bright sunlight, the sometimes still chilly water on a hot day.

  19. 219
    Carol says:

Awwww, definitely the “Vera”! I grew up in a military family – we lived everywhere! Wherever I am, with a good book/camera/watercolor set, “that’s” where I feel good – ocean, mountains, inner city, country road, plains of west Texas, prairies of Kansas, art gallery, museum, used book/art supply stores, cattle auction, flea markets, a military base, school, church – each of these are a piece of who I am and how I feel.

  20. 220
    Emma N says:

I love being around all of the people and commotion in the city…but getting away to our cabin in the northwoods of Wisconsin cannot be beat. I’ll take a little of both!

  21. 221
    Relyn says:

Oh, Miss Krista, I love that little mini-bio at the end of your post. I’ll say it again. You sure can write!

  22. 222
    Allison says:

I am definitely an ocean person. I grew up spending the majority of my vacation time at the beach with family, so being at the ocean brings back the best memories. I feel so energized whenever I am at the coast and always begin to feel like a child again when I’m at the beach. I get so overwhelmed by the power and the beauty of the ocean and all that inside it (its a whole other world in there!!), and that, my friends, is why I am an ocean person.

  23. 223
    Cinnamon says:

I grew up near the ocean, but was always most at home in the mountains. I think the vastness of the sea scares me a little, where being surrounded by trees and swathes of green is so much more comforting.

  24. 224
    Celia says:

I think I am a forest person (though I am always, ALWAYS up for a trip to the mountains or the beach!) … I grew up in northwestern Oklahoma, but our house was in the country surrounded by trees – my husband and I recently bought a house that is on some land – surrounded by trees! We have our forest hideaway now & love it!

  25. 225
    Suzanne says:

I like all 4 but I’d have to say I appreciate the ocean the most now, having grown up pretty far from the ocean (in TN). I now live an hour away and love it!

I always thought I was an ocean/mountain person (ocean as in beachcombing etc not laying out on the sand), until I moved to the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, Thanks to the beauty of this “living desert”, I’ve become a bonafide “desert rat”.

I glory in it… especially when I’m able to stand out in the middle of it, right before the sun comes up when it’s cold enough for a jacket and hopefully holding a perfect cup of coffee. All at once the birds set up a mighty chorus and the highest peak of the nearby mountains is barely lite up. Slowly and majestically the sun rises and the mountains slowly emerge from the night, having been just a shadow on the horizon to magnificent folds of colbot blue then sort of a purply rose/taupe brown with the rising sun light causing interesting shadows to appear from the folds of mountains that form the canyons and steeps.

In the foreground beams of morning sunlight pierce the trees and other vegetation, turning the dusty brown magically into shafts of gold dust.

If one is quiet enough one may actually see the hunters of the night returning with their winnings to their dens, meanwhile coveys of quails are pitter pattering in and around the bushes while mourning doves dart from tree to ground picking at the verious seeds that were blown down by the early morning breeze.

And that is what turned me from an ocean lover to a desert dweller who can also be at the Pacific in a short day trip and be on the mountain peaks in less than an hour.

The Sonoran Desert is the only place one can experience an Alpine environment and travel through all the other environments until one reaches the ocean environment.
