WIN MODERN CHIC HOME ON THE BSP!{please visit modern chic home here}

Nothing makes me happier when I am scouting for the BSP then to A) find a gem that perhaps you haven’t heard of yet, B) finding a contributor that totally ‘gets’ the project and bonus C) is a kindred spirit. Interior Designer, Julie Thigpen the founder of Modern Chic Home was all of the above and more.  She’s gets an extra gold star for being generous + having great taste (she happens to carry a well edited selection of the new Trina Turk home collection—insert squeal here).

Thigpen was working as a project manager for a design firm in 2008 when they closed their doors forcing her to make some big decisions. Despite the dreary economy she took a huge leap of faith,(with the moral support of her husband , friends and family) and started her own  residential design business. After finding success with that endeavor she decided to finally follow her heart and start her dream business—Modern Chic Home; which is Thigpen’s destination for ‘fabulous finds and fresh designs.’  MCH is a well thought out company offering a unique shopping experience by combining her design experience with her love for fun, chic, mod items.  If you are having trouble deciding you can go to her ‘Shop the Look’ section and peruse her inspiration boards (*warning*-everything looks dangerously good). Still stuck?  Thigpen offers a variety of design services in all budgets and an on line version for those not in the immediate vicinity.

“Even though most people would frown at the idea of launching a new business in the middle of a down economy, I refused to give into the gloom and uncertainty of it all and charged forward with optimism and hope! I’m so glad I did!”

Sigh, I love a success story, especially when it involves turning lemons into lemonade…

Julie Thigpen of Modern Chic Home is giving away not one but TWO gift certificates for $50 USD each.  Two winners?  Yes!  I thought it might be fun to offer two questions, answer whichever one your heart desires by Thursday, February 18, 2010:
In honor of ‘We love hue’, what color best describes your personality and why?
Visit Modern Chic Home , mosey on back here and let Julie know what  item(s) you would spend your gift certificate on and why?
Good luck!  Start checking the winners box on 02.24.10 to see if you won.

    Sara P says:

I would put my gift certificate towards the embellished darjeeling pillow. I just redecorated my new office, and that pillow is the missing link tying together rug, wall color, and sofa!

  2. 2
    aron row says:

Shades of blue, from being cool and blending with the sky.

  3. 3
    AMJ says:

I always think of my personality in terms of soft, dark, heathery grey. I find the colour comforting and calming, and I feel comfortable and calm when I’m really being true to myself.

  4. 4
    Kelly K. says:

If I won this gift certificate I’d spend it on the Bijou bottles. When I was a little girl I would spend sick and vacation days home from school at my great aunt B’s house. We’d watch The Price is Right and she taught me to play poker. The Bijou bottles remind me of the collection of colored glass vessels she had on her windowsill, and I’ve always wanted some of my own. As soon as I saw them on your site I was transported back to her sunny dining room, and I fell in love with them.

  5. 5
    Rebecca says:

I think that the color to describe my personality would be a light, celery green – I’m pretty calm, cool, and collected in most situations and I love the outdoors.
And I absolutely love the Blue Meadowbirds Bowl and Platter. What a fun and whimsical set – the perfect way to add a splash of color and fun to my plain white dishes.

  6. 6
    Debbie in Memphis says:

I love earthy greens, they just soothe my soul.

  7. 7
    Camila F. says:

I simply love the Cupcake Pedestals!!! They’re so gourgeous!!! I’m always baking cupcakes, so that’s the perfect item for me!

  8. 8
    Jennifer says:

So, I’m loving MCH! Your kitchen collection is as cute as a button with those wonderful aprons! And can we talk about those cupcake pedestals! I LOVE those six little cuties!! I think that I might have to go for the Ariel wallpaper in sky blue though. I long to paper the ceiling in my master bath for a little unexpected touch.

    Laura Laz says:

    “Burnt orange”
I think it describes me best as I am an Earthy, melodrama-loving woman.
So happy this 60’s hue is back in the fashion trends…. or is it out again?!

  10. 10
    Jen B. says:

Love the vintage chandelier prints on burlap! My walls need some fresh decor and those are great!

  11. 11

I’m “aubergine” classy and grounded at the same time!

  12. 12
    Renee Alam says:

If I won the gift cerificate, the first thing I would place into my cart is the vintage letter holder because my daughters and I write letters to each other & usually use one of those small, cheap play mailboxes to place our letters to each other in & it’s quite small. I could attach this to the wall in the hallway & I know they would love checking the mail in this new mailbox for any letters. :) The next item I would get are a couple of either the hobnail lanterns or the jewel glass votives to hang outside on our back patio where we love sitting, especially at night (that is,when we are not getting bombarded with snow) :) I’m also loving those cupcake pedastals because my daughters and I love baking (especially cupcakes because you can decorate each one differently as opposed to cakes). This would be such a great way to display my daughters baking skills (my youngest is 11 with learning disabilities so it’s a big deal to her). Everything I see in your store, I see as something to use to make memories with my daughters, which I hope they tell their kids about. :)

    Amanda says:

I would definitely be Pink! Not only because I love the color, but also because it is bright & cheery, just how I want to be each day! But even though Pink can be bubbly & daring, it can also be homey & cozy. This is definitely me!

  14. 14
    Emma L says:

Ooooh! If I won the gift certificate, I would use it toward the glorious petite owl pitcher. My heart gave an extra “thump” when I saw it just now and I KNOW in my body and soul that I will treasure it for a life time. I’m also digging its neighbor, the white porcelain leaf tray. Imagine what great afternoon tea-and-cookie parties I could have with those two! <3

    Suzanne Munroe says:

Rachel Full Apron – I dress up for work everyday, my husband has already left for work. When I get home, its time to cook dinner and because I dont want anything to splatter on my dress clothes I change into my sweats . My husband gets home after me. He never gets to see me cute and dressed up. He see’s me in the same ugle sweats everyday. I’ve been thinking of getting an apron – well that would cure all!! Then, when I ever saw your site I fell in love with the Rachel full Apron. HOW CUTE!!! Im thinking even if i change into my sweats, I’ll look adorable in that apron!!!! It would really rekindle my relationship. Ok, enough said!!!

  16. 16
    Rfo says:

im pretty sure i would buy the bloom vases.  I never have enough vases because I try to fill my house with flowers (although now in Michigan february its not as often…).  I love the detailed flowers on that vice – so elegant.

  17. 17
    Jenn A.F. says:

Maybe red? I’m passionate about what I do and the people I love. I can be strong willed and sometimes stubborn. I’m a big romantic but when I get mad you’ll know about it. And I burn in the sun in no time.

  18. 18
    Kelly says:

I love the Bloom Wallpaper in Blue and Green – it would be perfect for our guest bathroom!

  19. 19
    Dee says:

There is so much to choose from at ModernChicHome.com, but I would easily spend the gift certificate on the cupcake pedestals.

Growing up, the kitchen was the place where my family and I spent a lot of our time — it was the heart of our home. We always ate dinner together, spent snowy afternoons baking our favorite cupcakes, weeknights doing homework together at the table, and more. I hope that my baby daughter and I can share similar memories in our kitchen, maybe we can even bake some cupcakes to put on these pedestals.

  20. 20
    Smiling Maia says:

    1. Rainbow colors (the whole suite of them) would probably be the best description of me :-)

    2. I looked through every shelf in MCH and can say that the favourite item would be the Perch Gold Jewelry Stand. I have been thinking of making one myself, and thought of a branching tree theme, but this one is just perfect! The other favourites are Jute Butterfly Totes. They are sturdy, practical but most of all: pretty decorated, with zen-like simplicity.

  21. 21
    Susan McA says:

Oh….I’m torn between the Chamberet Mirror & Shabby Shutter Memo Holder. The mirror would be such a cute addition to my half bath, which lacks character right now….but the Memo Holder would be perfect in our office. Maybe I’d just order both :)

  22. 22
    Michelle W says:

Bright blue. Blue is typically seen as calm, cool, and a kind of gloomy color, but brightness gives a completely different, vibrant, and happy feel. I’ve always described myself as a walking contradiction, so I really like this contrast…and I just really like the color blue :)

  23. 23
    beth h says:

I feel like answering both because 1) I love colour and thinking about what colour describes me, and 2) because I loved looking through the different sections of the website dreaming of what I would get, so here goes:

-the colour best describes me would be a minty-blueish-gray. Kinda of like my eye colour. Because it’s complex and can look different depending on your mood and surroundings.

-I love the baby owl figurine, the vintage bird fine art prints, and I would LOVE one of the antique keyhole wall plaques. I’m in love with all things bird (I actually heard a horned owl this morning) and I have a collection of keys that I hang on my wall and I think the key hold plaque would make a great center piece.

  24. 24

What a great shop! I think everything in it would fit beautifully in my house – it’s just my style!

I would get the Perch Glass Canister – Small and the Abby Frame. My bedroom is pretty empty, still (a bed and a dresser), and these two would make such a pretty display on top of my dresser. I’d make a pretty terrarium out of the canister and I’d put a picture of my daughter in the frame. It would be a perfect fit!

  25. 25
    Monica says:

I’d put my gift certificate toward the Chamberet Mirror.  It’s the color of the year AND would look lovely in my nursery!

  26. 26
    Grace G. says:

I went to school with a Julie Thigpen! I wonder if it’s her????

  27. 27
    Clara says:

There’s much to love at Modern Chic Home. The area rugs and wallpapers particularly caught my eye — that gorgeous peacock wallpaper. Yum. And, oh, those aprons! And then there’s that gorgeous wooden Archtectural Mirror, painted turquoise. There must be a place in my house for that one.

Which brings me to the color that best expresses me. I admit that I was a little miffed when Pantone picked turquoise as the color of the year for 2010. Turquoise has been in element in my life for as long as I can remember, and I felt a little co-opted when I heard about Pantone’s announcement. Now EVERYONE will be decorating with and wearing turquoise. Humph!

Maybe it’s because I grew up in Key West, Florida where turquoise waters are the order of the day, but I think it has more to do with the vibrancy and positive energy that a pop of turquoise can add to a room, or an outfit. It’s difficult to be depressed when looking at turquoise, don’t you think?

Many thanks for the giveaway. It’s a pleasure to discover MCH.

    Anna L. says:

I would say that bright, cheery aqua color best describes my personality. It can be happy and friendly while also having a calming effect. Fits me just fine!

As for what I’d buy? Everything. :)

  29. 29
    Erin says:

Blue, because blue can convey so many emotions.  It can be bright and happy, it can be sad and mournful, but of which are parts of my personality.

  30. 30
    Kate B says:

I think I am probably blue, but I can’t commit to a single hue.  At times I can be icy (when one of my coworkers is not getting me the files I have asked for three times and need so our brokerage is in compliance).  I can be warm and welcoming as a tropical shore.  Most of the time, I’m fairly mellow, but I can also be very exciteable and pop and bubble like a bright turquoise.  I’d like to consider myself soothing, though I suspect that is not one of my stronger qualities.  I think I am loyal and dependable, though, like that blue sweater you keep going back to because it’s very serviceable and makes you look so nice.

  31. 31
    Sara says:

I am orange. Warm, cheerful, bright, yet burning with unanswered questions.

  32. 32
    Kara C. says:

I think I would be happy with anything from the site. Everything is wonderful and gorgeous! If I had a choice, I would pick the Butterfly Canvas Art Print, Set of 4 for my new office. After 8 years I finally got one and have to find decor that I love to put up. I am a huge butterfly gal….and this is beautiful!

  33. 33
    bink & boo says:

I HAVE to have the Bombshell Needlepoint Pillow in Blue! Oh how I wish it came in shades of orange and yellow those are my two favorite colors and the colors that best describe me – happy, imaginative, social, fun-loving, fearless, curious, strong, fickle and FREE!

  34. 34
    Terisa C says:

I would definitely have to get the rosie lunch apron and the orange bird vase if I won this gift certificate!! thanks for the opportunity.

  35. 35
    styleezta says:

Purple :) Purple is bright, cheery and fun like me!

  36. 36
    Trish says:

Blue. Calming but with a hint of fire (red0 in it. Also, I can come off as a bit “cool” sometimes… the introvert in me, is misinterpreted. ;)

  37. 37
    Erica says:

I would be red. Fiery and passionate!

  38. 38
    Martha Davis says:

Red best describes my personality. I’ve been told that when you gravitate toward a color, it suits you and your personality. I am drawn to all things red! It shows passion and a zest for life. It shows that you are bold and welcome a challenge. It shows you’re not afraid to show your true colors (pun intended). I love so many of the products, but if I won the gift certificate, I would apply my prize to the Palm Beach Block pillows–can’t decide between the black or the apple green. But I love those!

  39. 39
    Christy says:

Wow! Sometimes when I see the word “modern” I cringe b/c, although nice, it’s often too stark for my taste. This stuff is awesome – can fit with lots of different styles of decor. I love, love the kitchen stuff and want a ton of it! I start with the cupcake pedestals – they’d go great with the Barefoot Contessa red velvet cupcake mix I just bought. I can totally see it – red cupcakes on the white pedestals with white cream icing on the top. I’d use my heart punches to stick a red heart on top of each. They’d be so pretty, I wouldn’t let my husband eat them. :)

  40. 40
    Sarah says:

I’d be blue. Not because it can be bright and happy and then sad a meloncoly. But because blue is a color that is constant. It’s always in the sky or the ocean. And I’m constant too.

  41. 41
    Caitlin says:

Yellow is my colour answer for everything, I know, but it really does feel like me in every way.

I’d put the gift certificate towards one of the glorious Trina Turk hooked rugs. I like the white and black butterfly design best, but they’re all lovely and I’d probably waffle over which one for hours.

  42. 42
    Kates says:

I am a rasberry pink color. Because I can be playful and fun as well as grown up and serious at the same time!

  43. 43
    Rachel says:

In the past six months, I moved from Los Angeles to New Mexico and bought my first place!  Trying to decorate after leaving so many things behind in California has been a chore, especially in New Mexico where the pickings are slim.  I am overwhelmed by all of the exciting options on the Modern Chic Home website!  I would first purchase one of the colorful rugs to help brighten my space.  After that, I would definitely buy the Los Angeles City Hook Pillow, to remind me of where I came from.

  44. 44
    Jennifer says:

I am a firey red that can’t be contained, denied, or controlled.

  45. 45
    Laurel G says:

orange would be a good choice for me. Its vibrant and happy!

  46. 46
    Tiffanie J. says:

My me-colour would be plum purple, because sometimes it comes off as uplifting and other times is passionate, like I am with my art, or even moody. Its versatile.

As for my MCH pick, Gold Deco Porcelain jars, hands down. I love containers. I love containers that are gorgeous even more.

  47. 47
    Isabel says:

Today I’d choose dark blue, yesterday orange .. I keep changing XD

I’d love to use the gift certificate on some of these Abby Frames They could make nice presents :)

  48. 48
    Angela says:

kiwi green – earthy, calm and a little funky.

  49. 49
    Deneen says:

Orange! My all time fave color! Although I don’t often wear it, I feel it. It’s vibrant and alive, a little left of center, and can brighten up almost any setting.

As for MCH… well, you may have created a monster! Where do I begin?? I love the glass Perch jars, the cupcake stands, the Paris and Los Angeles pillows, the ampersand pillow (my favorite punctuation mark), the animal kingdom mini pitchers… see? Very dangerous fun!

    Val A. says:

I’m PINK b/c I think it’s a happy color and I’m generally in a happy mood. At least I try to be! And my cheeks get rosy when I have some wine. ;)
I took a peek at some of the fab finds and I would love the vintage letter holder to hold cards from friends and family that I treasure and the sophia frame(s). Oh and the rabbit mini pitcher. I have the rest of the kingdom but not the bunny!
