HOME SWEET
The year I turned seven, my mother told me I could choose the paint color for my room. I chose lavender. Later I switched to peach and sea foam green. Then there was the time I decided we should paint one of our living room walls bright yellow. “I love hue”, indeed. Jenny Nelson, the owner of Home Sweet, is a much more reliable source of color inspiration.
Home Sweet is a small textile business specializing in block printed sustainable fabrics and home décor. Nelson’s water-based inks are mostly hand-mixed and each color combination is chosen carefully, with consideration for creating colors that are energetic but not saturated. Sustainability is a primary focus. Fabrics range from hemp to organic cotton to soy and the studio is constantly looking for ways to be more eco-friendly.
Looking for a way to spruce up your home with clean and simple splashes of color? Might I suggest the Block Printed Fabric Bucket in the room, a Lumbar Pillow Cover on your bed with a Small Lamp Shade dangling above you as you read or perhaps a gorgeous Block Printed Kitchen Towel hanging from the stovetop? “I love hue” all over again.

My favorite room is our guest bedroom! It feels like a quaint little B&B right in my own house. I take my tea and a magazine in there all the time and unwind from my day.
My bedroom. I live in a apartment with an awesome roommate but one who does not rank design and neatness as highly as I do. I love her and wouldn’t trade living with her for a tidier space, but in my bedroom I get to make all the decisions so I’ve put the most work into it. Built my own headboard, made a huge art piece on the wall and just bought new bedding!
I love our bedroom. It has been the last on our redecorating list and still has much to go, but I love the coziness. It is our space and there is not much better than that.
My Bedroom. All of my favorite pictures are there.
I love my living room, it’s where it all happens for us in our house. Playing, relaxing, partying…I absolutely love it. I also love all of these amazing patterns, simple and beautiful. Thanks for this chance.
My livingroom is right now and has been since the fall when we painted it. We’ve lived here for about 8 years and the walls were -still- the beige color the previous owners had painted the whole house in. Depressing. The ceiling was the same color and with low ceilings, it was miserable to be honest. I just couldn’t choose a color. We have a navy blue couch, golden oak trim/floors, no curtains just some more of the beige crappy theme in blinds going on.
I finally chose yellow. 8 years in the deciding and I finally went with it haha. It’s so beautiful. It’s bright without being over the top, it’s just so fun. I’ve made my own curtains in a white fabric with swirls to brighten the walls. We bought a rug finally out of necessity in January (that room is really cold this winter!) and found the perfect one! It’s got squares of color, one of the colors matches the couch, one doesn’t match the wall but it is close enough. The rest are looking great too.
For the first time since we’ve lived here, the room feels like ours. Before it always felt like the previous owner’s living room, but now it’s ours. The whole house now feels like ours now with just that room being done. Next up is the kitchen! :)
life and all good things associated with it tends to happen in our kitchen /living room it really is the heart of the house………
My living room. Mostly because it is basically all windows. The natural light is so beautiful. Plus it is comfy and intiviting.
My kitchen, where I can cook and bake to my heart’s content.
Our living room…Comfortable furniture that suits our family. i.e. no cringing when play-dough covered hands wipe on it. Soft, albeit, stained, rug that welcomes block towers and puzzle pieces and dump trucks. Pillows and paintings that make this mama feel pretty despite the chaos surrounding.
When my son was a newborn, I turned our walk-in closet into a baby room for him. I posted black and white pictures of us and our family all over the walls, made a built-in shelf and changing table, and hung a cute little mobil from the saturday market; I covered the dirty city windows with light paper…. the house was cold, and we were very poor, and so I would stay in that little closet with him and a space-heater. I still remember how happy we were- even under the circumstances. That will always be my favorite room.
My favorite room is our bedroom. I’m not being dirty, haha! We used to have a television in our room, but didn’t put it back when we moved. It feels like we have more conversations now and I love it. The whole room feels more like an escape from our day now.
My fave room is my bedroom. I still live with my parents thanks to a surgery but will be moving out with my hubby-to-be post nuptials. Until then, I love my room simply because it’s mine. Every last inch of it.
The kitchen!
We probably spend the most (awake) time there. We cook a lot. And when company comes over, everyone always seems to gravitate towards kitchens.
Plus we just bought our house, and the kitchen is the room we have put the most effort into remodeling. Taking down the drop ceiling, repainting the walls a bright blue, and adding personal touches.
My most favorite room of the house … I’d have to say the kitchen/dining area, because so many grand memories have been made there. We’ve toasted anniversaries and accomplishments, we’ve celebrated birthdays and holidays, we’ve laughed, we’ve even cried a few times. And through it all I’ve been surrounded by those I love most. So yes, I do believe my kitchen is the favorite.
My kitchen, just because I love to bake. Even when I am stressing over a recipe, I still love being there.
My living room. I have 6 animals and a husband, so it’s an area where we can all be comfortable snuggling on the couch while reading, surfing the net on our laptops, or watching tv. It’s also in the center of my house so it’s nice because I can look out all of the windows and see what’s going on outside.
My living room. One wall is painted a warm, deep orange and covered with thrift store prints, there’s an old rug on the floor, always a fire in the fireplace, and a big, fluffy, comfy couch. I am so happy in that room.
My favorite room is my back room. It doubles as our dining room and my office and is still under construction. I have been collecting custom artwork, beautiful supplies and have painted the walls a bright relaxing green to contrast with our white trim and hunny colored wooden floors. I can’t wait to finish it and have it as a great place to relax and enjoy the day!
I absolutely love my living room, and the reasons why change with the seasons. In the winter, it’s the cosy chaise by the fireplace, the warm glow of the flames shining off the hardwood floors. In the springtime, it’s the sunny reading spot tucked into the corner window, in full view of the flower beds. And in summer and early fall, it’s the door opening out to the screened-in porch, propped open wide so the cat can come and go as she pleases.
Oddly enough my guest bedroom – because it either holds visiting loved ones or because it’s my little escape for alone time so i can read a book, write in my journal or just breathe for a few minutes.
My favorite room is our great room. High vaulted ceilings, wood floor that my husband laid himself, a fireplace and huge windows looking back into our sun filled yard.
My favorite room is our sunporch. It is rustic and beach-y feeling and cozy with a painted wood floor and ’70s lime green blinds. It gets great light and warms up to a toasty temp even in winter if the sun is shining. I love going out there and reading and getting all relaxed sleepy with the dogs passed out on the floor.
I just love my bedroom (when it’s clean), it’s full of sunlight and original art. It’s so soothing to wake up in a sun drenched art-filled environment.
my front room. All my books and my family portraits (great grandmothers and grandfathers to my daughter). Beautiful vintage and inexpensively bought furniture, most of it gifts. Big windows to let in the light while I read. No TV.
My favorite room is the kitchen, it’s where my nine year daughter and I cook together and where the whole family comes together around the table and shares what’s happening in their lives.
I’m not entirely sure yet… My husband and I are buying our first home together [THIS WEEK] – I currently have a general idea of what each room will be like, but until everything is moved in and settled down, I don’t really know. I’m imagining that I may like the front room best of all. We don’t have any furniture to go in there yet, except a big bookcase and our record player. I’m envisioning it as a lounge area… :)
My guest room( in which these fabrics would be fantastic!) — it’s always clean, stocked with goodies, and ready for a friend or family member. And, when I’m too overwhelmed, sometimes I move in there myself for a few days for a bit of a respite from the everyday.
Have to say bedroom sinceI spend the most time in it – love doing work in my bed (thanks to laptops!) For me it’s really relaxing :)
The bedroom is my favorite because it signifies relaxation and calm. Beautiful bedspread, crisp sheets, no TV or computers.
rusell + hazel’s designs and fabrics are wonderful!
My favorite room is my kitchen. We did a green renovation a few years ago and I love it. It is what my grandmother would call a “2-butt” kitchen (read: small), but it fits my husband and I and our sleek Liebherr fridge perfectly.
And on an aside – I just discovered Home Sweets fabrics the other day, and just discovered the Bright Side Project today, so fun to see two new favorites collide!
Well it depends on the phase i’m going through, and the weather! Sometimes its my craft room, where I can make a beautiful mess of all sorts of projects, other times its the kitchen where I can experiment with new and exciting flavours. Or sometimes I just like to lie on a bunch of cushions by the door and look out onto my small garden and the world beyond, daydreaming.
I love my new sewing room/office. It’s a place where I can create right along side my two girls.
i love my sun room. It is where my whole family gathers to watch TV and be together.
My beautiful living/dining/office room. in a little condo the big open space makes it feel so airy and roomy, and it has hardwood floors and cute little antique touches that remind you it was built in 1920. Plus, though it’s one big room, it’s painted two colors – bright red and a moody turquoise, and it looks into our lovely green kitchen. I feel like I can see & honor all the sides of myself from right here.
Um, the kitchen because that is where the food is!
Our bedroom! When we moved into our apartment, it was painted a dark green and had dark blue carpet to match. We don’t get much sunlight in there, and our lighting was terrible. Since then, we’ve added maple hardwood floors (recycled from a gym floor) painted it a lovely shade of coral and added some fantastic and cheery art and lights. I love spending time in there – and have noticed that we actually do get sun now that it has some great colors to bounce off of.
my daughters bedroom cause so mujch love went into designing it.
My kitchen..not because I’m necessarily the best chef but I sure do love to eat whatever happens to be in there.
Our living room. I love the colours we have in there (beige, black, and red) and the fact that we have four couches so we can have about fifteen people in there comfortably. My kind of room is the one where you can have an entire party chatting at once.
My patio room. I love looking outside and watching my dog chase squirrels and get scared when she actually gets close and runs the other way! Its also my favorite place to make things, I always get inspired by nature.
Bedroom. It’s where my husband and I talk things through, where we tickle & cuddle with the kids, where sweet dreams are found, and where momentous pillow fights occur.
My office/craft room because it is where I can escape and get ideas on my computer, work on crafts for my Etsy store, and write letters to wonderful friends and family!
My great room/kitchen. Love the kitchen, which we remodeled almost 2 years ago now. The whole space is very airy and bright and contemporary, and most consistently reflects my modern/retro style. It’s also the hub of our home –meals, homework, TV, play time– it all goes on in there!
Not sure if it counts but I love my front porch. I live in a small 1930’s brick cottge on the edge of the historic district in my small town. I just love sitting on my 2 seat glidder, good book, cup of tea watching the squirrels racing up and down the trees and saying “hi ya’ll” to neighbors out walking (yes, I live in a walking neighborhood!).
I am currently living with my in-laws so it’s hard to find a favourite
place at the moment other than my own room that I share with
my husband. I practically do everything there since it’s like my
little sanctuary. once we get our own home, I’d like to do up a
studio and have my own favourite room (:
It would have to be the living room, I think. It’s where we spend most of our time together! We snuggle into a cozy oversized chair to watch TV or a movie while our two Great Danes lay on the sofa or the floor next to us… Yes, they get the sofa! haha
the fav room in my home would have to be the bedroom – waking up late every sunday with my other half and just cuddling next to each other. we whisper to each other and laugh out loud, wondering why we need to whisper when there’s only the two of us….
Bathroom, because it’s the one less prone to clutter.
Our bedroom. It’s calm, serene, and has a beautiful view of the woods.
