SALTBOX NYC

saltboxnyc{ please visit saltbox nyc here }

The best ideas come out of necessity, ie. electricity, the telephone, the ubiquitous SaltBox NYC tote.  Nicole Scheinholz founded Saltbox NYC over a decade ago, the company initially made designer shower curtains. After years of toting her daily haul across New York City, Scheinholz whipped up a custom bag crafted from one of her signature shower curtains. This one-of-a-kind bag became an instant hit and the rest is history (or in Scheinholz case herstory).

Now Saltbox NYC is hailed as a top source for fashionable, functional bags and accessories. Crafted of heavy gauge canvas, treated to be water resistant each piece is perfect for year-round use. The all-woman team at Saltbox NYC is focused and everyone weighs in on new products and patterns that are in development. Each unique pattern is inspired by travel, history, nature and architecture. While graphic and vibrant the prints and palettes are completely wearable and each tells its own story. Best of all the sturdy canvas softens with use just like your favorite pair of blue jeans. Nothing is better than a trusty, broken-in tote that looks better with age. These style packed bags are a sight for sore eyes. Imagine yours waiting in an airport eagerly anticipating adventure or longing for you to bring back to your obviously stylish home.

TWO lucky winners will get a chance to tote in style. One winner will take home a Saltbox NYC set including a travel bag, luggage tag and travel wallet in the Kiwi Geo print. Another winner will take home the same in the Pool Geo print. Each prize package is valued at $258 USD!  For your chance to enter to win please answer the following question by Wednesday, February 24, 2010:
When traveling most people bring at least three different bags. What is your favorite type of bag to take on travels? What do you use to carry in it?
Please begin checking the winners box on March 3, 2010 to see if you’ve won. Good luck!

P.S. if you can’t wait to see if you won and MUST get your bag like yesterday, all BSP readers get to take 25% off their entire SaltBox NYC order with this code BRIGHT25 (all caps).

I have a little tiny black and white suitcase that us perfect for one night away. It’s a roller bag with a handle long enough to bd comfortable. It’s small enough to legitimate fit in an overhead bin and for me to put up there without help. It’s black and white pattern is really trendy and the fabric is covered in plastic so my stuff doesn’t get wet when I travel in the rain. Love it!

    Sarah says:

My favorite type of bag is a shoulder bag that fit’s in my carry on luggage but gets pulled out when I go shopping. It holds all my goodies!

    Julia says:

I only just got my first piece of real Luggage this winter, with wheels and little feet. and its been great for keeping my stuff off the questionable floors at Greyhound stations. I also use my backpack quite a bit, especially for carrying on my laptop, books, snacks and knitting. Then I can use it for day trips at my destination!

  4. 104
    K.Morrow says:

I love a zip tote. Large enough to hold everything and it zips up so nothing falls out!

  5. 105
    Deneen says:

I like to check my luggage it’s gotta have wheels! But because I check my luggage. Because I happen to be touched with the lost luggage curse, I ALWAYS tote a carry-on that will hold essentials like an extra t-shirt, a wrap for the plane (no yucky blankets please), toothbrush, make-up, fresh undies, a book and a bottle of water. If my bag doesn’t show up in the carousel, I don’t stress… I know I have a fresh change and make-up to jump start my trip until it arrives. And it always does!

    Deneen says:

Ok – weird sentence structure – just noticed!!! Must have coffee – SORRY!

  7. 107
    Kelly B. says:

I keep it minimal and only take a rolling carry-on and my purse most of the time if I’m flying. For long car travel vacations I tend to bring more.

  8. 108
    Erica says:

That’s easy – my camera bag. It’s actually a camera backpack with loads of padded comparments which house each piece of equipment. The extra outer zippered pockets are what I use to stash my wallet, sunglasses, sunblock, gum, water bottle, etc. when I am roaming around. A camera is a must have for travelers.

    rose says:

i have a ginormous le sport sack purse. it’s perfect for throwing in a book, snacks (for my 2 boys), a drink, a sweater, some hot wheels, wallet, camera, and whatever else that is needed.
i think of it like the carpet bag in Mary Poppins where she pulls anything and everything out of it.

    Shana says:

Now that airlines severely restrict the amount of luggage we can bring (and charge exorbitantly too!) I like to bring a weekender bag to carry on. It fits a lot and looks chic, though lately it’s been starting to look a bit battered from use.

  11. 111
    hallie says:

hands down, a single strap shoulder bag in bright red leather.it’s large enough for my laptop, but not overly bulky. it has crisscrossed the U.S. and followed me overseas. within it’s depths are my “secrets” of good travel…vitamin fizz, an ipod, a good book, a camera and mascara.

  12. 112
    Tarra says:

Sadly, I haven’t found my favorite type of bag for traveling yet. Everything I’ve tried so far just doesn’t live up to my expectations – either too big & bulky without actually holding a lot, or doesn’t hold up to the rigors of travel. The addition of kids to the travel picture has only made the problem worse!!

  13. 113
    Erica Y says:

I used to have the perfect purse for traveling — I used it so much it finally wore out! But while it lasted it was perfect, it had a double handle going across the top, and hung like a shoulder bag, to just above the waist. Or, if you pulled the handles and let the two rings at the upper corners of the bag come together, it became a tiny cute backpack! Perfect for hands-free running to catch a plane, or for making lots of sightseeing walking easier. I loved that bag and have never found another that functions the same and is also cute. I keep hoping though!

  14. 114
    Carrie says:

I have a carry-on that I always take with me — because it has expansion room for the things I buy while traveling. I just unzip it all the way around and I get an extra 3 inches of space for my fabulous finds. Love that bag.

  15. 115
    Beth says:

My laptop bag is my favorite bag to take, whether traveling across the country or across town. It’s large, and pink with a cute dime-store romance style cover. It’s large enough for my laptop, books, writing utensils, and even a snack or two. Plus, the back side is faux velvet, which makes for a nice pillow (emptied of all contents, of course) in a tight spot.

  16. 116
    Christy says:

I have a red rolling suitcase that I call my weekender – it’s the perfect size for 2-3 days and has a foldable suit hanging bag.
I’m always looking for a good tote/carryon that will hold my camera plus other necessities but not look like a camera bag.

  17. 117
    Jaime says:

A small rolling suitcase- perfect size for a carry on but has wheels so I don’t have to lug it around!

  18. 118
    Rachel P. says:

My favorite travel bag is a cross-body purse from Eddie Bauer. I bought it in 1999 and still use it, although on my last trip, I noticed it has seen better days. That purse can hold a water bottle, guide book, camera, and wallet and not look bulky. It has been all over the world with me.

  19. 119
    Shannon Vandewarker says:

I always bring my overside over the shoulder double srapped leather bag for all my entertaining needs on the plane ie: camera, laptop, books and magazines!

  20. 120
    Kara C. says:

Honestly, aside from my blue wheeling carry-on, I don’t have a great option. Everytime I travel I switch it up, hoping that I will love the new one, but it always lacks something. I need a bag with lots of compartments that is easy to carry, stylish and zippers on the top (so all my things to do while in flight items don’t fall out). In reading these posts it seems that they are out there. I just need to look harder.

  21. 121
    Mina says:

My favourite type of bag to take on travels is my Deuter rucksack. Its features make traveling more comfortable, safe (especially for laptop owners) and stylish at the same time.

When traveling, I always carry my essentials: passport, books to read, notepad and pens to jot things down, pencils for drawing, maybe some craft doodads to get creative with, lip gloss or lip tint, hand cream, dental floss, band-aids and my ’secret weapon’: a stainless steel lollipop that obliterates bad breath.

  22. 122
    Nicki Kirk says:

LOVE LOVE LOVE this set! GORGEOUS! My fav bag to take on shorter travels is a small rolling suitcase that’s shaped like a giant handbag but it’s expandable. It has separate compartments to hold my clothes, magazines, laptop and personal items. Thanks fo the chance to win!

  23. 123
    Kelly says:

I love practicality, so when I think “travel,” I automatically think my awesome Victorinox roller suitcase. However – when I REALLY think about it, the bag I use MOST whether I’m traveling or just walking around the city, is a thin, vibrant, nylon shopper that folds up into a small pocket-sized ball when not in use. It unfolds into something that can hold so much, so I bring it everywhere I go – whether I’m packing overnight clothes, gym clothes, lunch, stuff to do on the airplane, beach supplies, or even groceries, it is the perfect and most practical bag for me.

  24. 124
    Ari says:

My favorite bag to bring with me is my couch lap top back pack. I adorned it with my favorite pieces of me, mustaches and pins. I like being different but trying to be chic at the same time. My couch back pack is a regular square cut back pack but its fabric is semi couch feeling.

  25. 125
    Laura D says:

When we travel by car, I load up my reusable grocery bags with things to deliver once we get there (gifts, mail, etc), snacks for the trip, and those random things that didn’t get packed until after the suitcase was already in the car (hubby’s dress shoes, an extra scarf, the dog food, etc).

  26. 126
    wendy says:

a backpack is my favourite… actually, a convertible tote/backpack that I made. I love having the option of being hands-free. It’s essential when traveling with kids :)

  27. 127
    Sam says:

I recently received my first set of luggage..a 3 piece RED luggage set. Just in time for my honeymoon to Italy..although these beautiful pieces would ensure I show up in style!

  28. 128
    Tasha says:

Three bags?! Yeah, no. I want a bag that does it all, yet is still reasonably small. If I can’t carry it, I’m not interested. For me, that means lots of zippers and compartments and neat little areas to stash my stuff. I hate to admit it, but right now, a backpack serves that function for me, though it’s not stylish at all!

  29. 129
    Nadine says:

I adore my huge ass crumpler because it can fit almost
everything so I don’t have to lug around two or three
    other bags.

  30. 130
    Mrs Soup says:

I have a huge handbag that’s kinda a tote bag, but more structured and has lots of space on the inside with separators. I’m able to have my books, 1 pair of underwear and clothes, contact stuff and snacks in it. Then I take the smaller rolly bag that fits in the overhead compartment with any other items that I need.

  31. 131
    helen says:

I have a big collapsable tote w/a comfy shoulder strap that I pack in my suitcase. On my return trip I put my souvenirs in it and use it as my carry on. That way I never have to worry about losing my new goodies or having them damaged.

  32. 132
    tamsen says:

i don’t have a fave bag, cause all my bags suck. i wish i had such a nice bag to tote all my stuff around. we just got back from a great vacation and this would have been perfect.

  33. 133
    Mel says:

My travel bag is olive green, beat up and deceivingly small. It’s covered in stickers from all the random international adventures I couldn’t really afford. And it seems to magically hold at least 2 weeks of clothes, shoes, and assorted treasures picked up along the way. I often refer to it as Mary Poppin’s bag for it’s ability to hold even more when you just think it’s absolutely at it’s fullest. The surprising part is that it actually fits in the overhead compartment! No waiting for baggage claim…I step off the plane and head straight to the adventures waiting for me.

  34. 134
    Jingle says:

I like something HIGHLY functional, but cute, too. I travel light, so it has to be able to hold all of the essentials in a neat, and organized fashion.

  35. 135
    Jules says:

I actually have two Herve Chapelier totes that I take for ALL my travels. I love them because of the two tone colors! I take everything in those bags when traveling – computer, books, lots of magazines, makeup (to freshen up after a plane ride…) ipod, you name it, I’ll have it in there. Airlines have lost my luggage in the past so I prefer to carry on and the cuter the bag better! Love the green and blue colors of the Saltbox NYC bags! LOVE them – so at least I know about them now for my future travels! :)

  36. 136

A hanging bag with lots of little compartments for shoes, bathroom gear, etc.
    These are beautiful!!

  37. 137
    Tiffany L. says:

I used to have a fabulous Betsey Johnson leopard print overnight bag. it was big enough to carry all my stuff but small enough that it looked sort of light a super stylish hobo bag. I carried it for YEARS until the zipper split and the seams succumbed to me stuffing one too many things in it and squishing it closed. There is something about carrying a stylish duffel bag that makes you feel like you are on adventure everytime you zip it closed.

  38. 138
    Carolyn says:

When I travel overseas for work, I make sure to take a fold-up bag in my luggage for my trip back home. Apparently I’m incapable of returning home with the same amount of stuff I left with – it’s either that, or I’m a really good packer going out and a terrible rushed packer coming home. I promise I’d be so good to one of the Saltbox bags – I’ve been ogling them for months now …

    jaclyn says:

I love, love, LOVE my LUG Bag – it is big and has a ton of pockets for all my essentials. LOVE! Thanks for the chance :)

    Lauren says:

My dilemma is always how to deal with a laptop on business trips – how do you keep it on your person and not in your hotel room for the non-transit part of your trip? I had the most perfect double-purpose purse/carry-on that I used until it was in tatters – a somewhat structured purse so that it looked professional as a handbag, (and not like a laptop bag that is so obvious to muggers), that was non-structured enough that you could squish it under seats and in overhead bins, was large enough to hold a laptop and other daily essentials, which finally zipped close to hide said laptop.

  41. 141
    Em says:

I try to avoid checking luggage, so I tend to travel very light.  That means a small rolling carry-on is probably the number one piece.  I had one that I loved that was like an oversized gym bag (I know, makes it sound enticing) with wheels.  It had side pockets, where shoes went to live (because that meant I didn’t need shoebags, even though I love shoebags.  OCD much?)  Anyway, the only thing that would have made it even more perfect would have been for it to be some insanely bright colour.  It was black.

  42. 142
    Robin says:

My husband and I registered for two carry on samsonite all-terrain, four wheels-that-go-in-any-directiono bags. (Not the exact name, but you get it.) These are my favourite. We went to Europe for two weeks with ONLY two carry ons and a backpack. We had the obligatory jeans, khakis, swim suits, toiletries that one would need for a whirlwind trip through three countries. But I also threw in a fancy dress, heels, and a suit since we were going to be in Monaco. Rolling clothing makes life so easy. However, this cute bag is totally worth retiring my backpack! I’m in!

    Jordan Claire Blakley says:

First and foremost, I have to say that I have gone absolutely gaga over this line for a while now. My best friend and I go to Santa Monica to “shop” at Fred Segal. Basically, we walk around and loooong mental lists about all the thing we’d like to buy once we can afford it. One day.

I travel constantly…not to anywhere exciting, just plane trips to and from work sites. I can’t wait to have the money to travel on my own dime to exotic destinations and historical places. I will do next to ANYTHING to make my trips a little less dull – - – in my favorite BIG red leather bag I pack one pair of crazy socks (just to wear once I’m on the plane), a pair of stunning heels to slip on just before I get off the plane, a good book or magazine, some trail mix, lots of water bottles, a hair straightener, and some makeup. My luggage bag is plain, just like everyone else’s. Once, my sister tied a big yellow ribbon on the handle so I would recognize it at baggage claim. Little did she know, she made my work trip a little more fun!!

  44. 144
    Kristin C. says:

I’m actually still hunting for a perfect bag. I used to be a check everything kinda gal, but lately with all these airline charges I desperately need a travel bag that I can pack my few things in while also looking fabulously stylish! Or at least as stylish as one can look throwing a bag into the overhead bin in heels… :)

    erika says:

I always take a large wipeable tote with me. It is divided in two large sections (with smaller pockets) and helps carry the essentials: magazines, wallet, hand sanitizer, my favorite lip balm and a diaper or two.

  46. 146
    Shannon says:

My favorite type of bag to take when traveling is a large purse that I can squeeze all my travel necessities into (camera, sweater, snacks) without ever having to be separated from it.

  47. 147
    kaitlin says:

My favourite travel piece is a large sling-style bag. I do a lot of backpacking and I can wear this on my hip, or closer to my back. It has room enough for my camera and lenses, and pockets for smaller things here and there. I also have a very lovely new pouch that is perfect for very small things that I access frequently, like my cell phone, bobby pins and lip stick.

  48. 148
    Jamie says:

I like to carry a big zip tote on the plane with me. That way I can have easy access to all the things I may need on the plane and when I get off. For example, I have to bring at least one book and magazine, IPod, make-up and toothbrush to refresh (especially after a long flight or when a transfer is necessary), a sweater or scarf and any extra items that didn’t fit into my checked in bag.

  49. 149
    Megan says:

I fly home a lot and am always switching bags and contents around trying to find the best fit. My husband laughs at my luggage collection that I’ve had since college – the last time we flew, the stewardess actually broke the handle off of one of my bags!

    Laney L. says:

my small carry-on rolling suit case is my go-to bag for traveling. it fits even the smallest carry-on requirements and, just as important, it fits all of my travel essentials that MUST make it to the final destination!
