SALTBOX NYC

saltboxnyc{ please visit saltbox nyc here }

The best ideas come out of necessity, ie. electricity, the telephone, the ubiquitous SaltBox NYC tote.  Nicole Scheinholz founded Saltbox NYC over a decade ago, the company initially made designer shower curtains. After years of toting her daily haul across New York City, Scheinholz whipped up a custom bag crafted from one of her signature shower curtains. This one-of-a-kind bag became an instant hit and the rest is history (or in Scheinholz case herstory).

Now Saltbox NYC is hailed as a top source for fashionable, functional bags and accessories. Crafted of heavy gauge canvas, treated to be water resistant each piece is perfect for year-round use. The all-woman team at Saltbox NYC is focused and everyone weighs in on new products and patterns that are in development. Each unique pattern is inspired by travel, history, nature and architecture. While graphic and vibrant the prints and palettes are completely wearable and each tells its own story. Best of all the sturdy canvas softens with use just like your favorite pair of blue jeans. Nothing is better than a trusty, broken-in tote that looks better with age. These style packed bags are a sight for sore eyes. Imagine yours waiting in an airport eagerly anticipating adventure or longing for you to bring back to your obviously stylish home.

TWO lucky winners will get a chance to tote in style. One winner will take home a Saltbox NYC set including a travel bag, luggage tag and travel wallet in the Kiwi Geo print. Another winner will take home the same in the Pool Geo print. Each prize package is valued at $258 USD!  For your chance to enter to win please answer the following question by Wednesday, February 24, 2010:
When traveling most people bring at least three different bags. What is your favorite type of bag to take on travels? What do you use to carry in it?
Please begin checking the winners box on March 3, 2010 to see if you’ve won. Good luck!

P.S. if you can’t wait to see if you won and MUST get your bag like yesterday, all BSP readers get to take 25% off their entire SaltBox NYC order with this code BRIGHT25 (all caps).

    Kates says:

My favorite bag to travel with was a weekend sided faux croc bag. It was big enough to carry my clothes and make up but not to big that it would be heavy. Unfortunately the long shoulder strap broke which means I need a new bag to carry!!! Love the bold prints!!!

    Dee says:

I have a tiny purse that has a long gold Chanel-inspired chain that I can cross across my body for hands-free walking, museum viewing, and shopping and it holds only a bit of cash, a folded up map, sunglasses and lip gloss. It also fits inside any other bag I carry so as to not take up my carry-on two bag limit. I’d be lost without it!

    Catarina says:

To travel the main word is ZIP! I never take bags that don’t have zips. Because the last thing you want is to lose important stuff and documents in a farway country! Sometimes I see people with bags, and purses with lots of holes because they don’t have zips! I always keep it simple, and that’s why Saltbox NYC is perfect to travel :)

    Monica says:

EEEEK!  These bags are FANTASTIC! I only have the boring black suitcases that look like everyone else’s!  Hmmm…I usually carry on a tote that can fit under the seat in front of me so I don’t have to take up precious overhead storage or bother the person sitting next to me anytime I need something out of my bag.  What’s inside? A good read, chap-stick, hand lotions (plane air dries me out!), light jacket, thermos of water, cell phone, a pen, and a journal for capturing  any inspired thoughts (but usually for making some sort of list).

    Jennifer C. says:

When I travel I always take my laptop backpack so that I can have my computer with me — safe and sound.
These bags are absolutely gorgeous.  Would love to have one to use on all my travels: )

    Missy says:

I always bring my travel pack of the giant backpack version.  It has suited well for all types of trips, can be made larger or smaller, and all the straps tuck in neatly.  Can be long and lean for a short jaunt, or big and fat (and happy) for a long haul.  Though it may look funny with the purse, it works.  And as long as it keeps going…  so shall I…

    Ann says:

I have a big zip tote. It fits under the seat and I can easily grab my beading craft or a book, my water bottle or pashmina. I think I started traveling this way when my daughter was little and I had to carry a diaper bag. Back then the were ugly with “baby” patterns on them – Yuck! But I found a no-nonsense black one at Old Navy (wonderfully cheap) and everything was within reach! Traveling with a baby was easier than I expected and now we have a wonderful 12 year old that is a world traveler.

    Kate Richey says:

I LOVE these items. I pack a shoulder carry-on bag for every trip, but that’s not the most important bag I use. I use a roll-up jewelry bag for all my pretties. It MUST come with me on all my trips.

  9. 159
    Krystal says:

Funny enough, I just like my baby pink backpack I’ve had since I was in high school. The front pocket holds all my travel necessities and the main pocket is perfect for a change of clothes, pajamas, camera, and a book! I love that bag and anytime I travel it comes with me!

    LauraB says:

Ever since I began traveling more frequently for business, my favorite bag is the Army issue backpack my husband gave to me. It has a sleeve for my laptop, plenty of storage for notebooks and pens, and even a pouch for my iPod that allows the headphones to come out the top. Since it’s a real Army bag, it is green/khaki camo. Many times people stop me in the airport to thank me for my service, and I tell them I will pass their kind words on to my husband.

  11. 161
    Aimee says:

I’ve switched back and forth so many times, but my go-to favorite is my old Jansport backpack from college.  My wallet, pens, and camera all fit in the small pocket, and my netbook, sudoku, and crochet have plenty of room in the body.  It’s comfy to carry…but not nearly as drool-worthy as that gorgeous kiwi tote!!

  12. 162
    sara says:

I always try to pack light but it never every works. Even if I’m able to fit all of my clothes in a backpack that I can get away with not checking (hate waiting for bags and the new costs for checking bags!!) I still end up jam packing all the things I forgot to pack into my over the shoulder purse. It’s a life saver! By the time I leave it’s filled with everything from my wallet, empty water bottle (to fill at the water fountain once I get through security), lip balm, toiletries (I forgot to pack), clothes (I forgot to pack), books, magazines, ipod, phone, camera, socks, just about everything I can fit in there I will.

  13. 163
    Jodi says:

I am still in search of the perfect carry-on bag. One that can hold some cameras, wallet, book, magazine and snacks — and still look good doing it!

  14. 164
    Caitlin says:

Once kids became involved, packing light was no longer an option. I like to keep one suitcase for most of our stuff and take a backpack and diaper bag on the plane for things that we can’t do without in case our luggage gets lost (which has happened to us).

  15. 165
    Samantha S. says:

Along with the suitcase I’ve had to sit on to close (I have a strong aversion to bringing more than one suitcase, and cram everything into one) I never travel without a largeish purse. It must be able to hold everything I need plus a book, lunch, and the occasional scarf, with a tad more room to stow finds I acquire on my trips.

  16. 166
    Jane Goldenarms says:

A travel bag. It’s purple with Hello Kitty’s face in the middle. It has just enough room for two pair of jeans, two shirts, intimates, my iPod and a good book. But I’m pushing 30 and it’s a 7-year-old gift from the past. It’s time to pack that bag away.

  17. 167
    MaryAP says:

I always take my Coach tote to use as a big purse. It holds my travel documents, a water bottle, a good book and I can usually squeeze a change of clothes in there to. I love it because it makes me feel like a professional jet-setter… and it’s just a beautiful bag. Kind of like how I would feel if I won this fabulous luggage. It’s time for a replacement anyway… the wheels have both finally broken off of the boring suitcase I usually use!

  18. 168
    Kristen says:

I am going on a vacation soon and need new travel bags because everything I had has broken in the last year! But it is so hard to find cute stuff, and this is cute! I love my carry on bag- it always needs to be a perfect size so I can stash my computer, a book, a sweatshirt and possibly stick my purse in there too.

  19. 169
    Elena says:

I always use an Invicta violet backpack, since I was 13! But now I’m 25 and maybe this is the moment to change…

  20. 170
    Bailey S. says:

I have a small wheeled pilot’s suitcase that I like to pack my clothes in. For everything else, I use my school backpack because it’s usually already packed!

  21. 171
    Giancarlo says:

Travel is my life! Now I’m going to Amsterdam, I absolutely need a very stilish set of bags! I normally use a very anonymous set of black Samsonite, full of maps, my laptop and a pair of socks for every day!

  22. 172
    Kelly Fly says:

The bag I always bring when I travel is this great weekend bag I got from urban outfitters years ago. It has the cutest patterns on it and is just big enough for a weekend get away.

  23. 173
    JJ says:

I love my carry on suitcase! It has a compartment for my laptop, zippered expanding pocket, and looks cute to boot!!

  24. 174
    Jill A says:

My favorite bag is a backpack – no matter what kind of trip, it’s what I try to put everything into so that it’s easy to take anywhere with maximum comfort. It helps me avoid overpacking, too. I’m sure these days are over as I’m due to have my first baby next month; pretty sure I won’t be able to manage with 1 bag anymore!

  25. 175
    Cindy says:

Gorgeous bags! My favorite bag is my tote-all. And that’s exactly what I do with it. It carries everything! Water bottle, lip stuff, a book, a magazine, a toy (hey what’s that burp cloth doing in here?) wallet, planner, phone. you name it. it’s probably in there ;)

  26. 176

definitely something with wheels – camera and computer & lots of clothes

  27. 177
    Karen says:

Three bags for longer trips: the rolly for the clothes (it gets checked), the old fashioned carry on (which can also be used for short get-aways from your destination base) and a small purse because we are ladies and want to look our best. For shorter trips, the rolly gets dumped and we focus on the other two, with the purse less mini. This has worked through the years and always allows room for purchases to bring home

  28. 178
    Ashley G says:

I love my medium size bag that fits perfectly under the seat in front of me. With all the new baggage fees, the bag is perfect for a 3 day trip because I can fit everything in it and I don’t have to worry about checking it or shoving it into the overhead compartments. I love when a bag has side compartments so I can keep things organized and easy to find.

  29. 179
    Jennifer says:

I love my small suitcase that I can carry on board with me. It is covered in blue, yellow, and green polka dots. Love it. I can somehow manage to cram everything I need in it.

  30. 180

I like using a carry on best because that’s where all the little indulgent goodies(magazines!) are!

  31. 181
    Roberta says:

Love the green color/pattern :} I so want to win a set…please, pick me!

    When I travel I love to bring my “Vera Bradley” miller bag as a carry on because of all the neat pockets to keep everything organized. For long trips I have my large, wheeled bags with a built in “weight” counter so that I don’t over stuff my bags…always a problem :}

  32. 182
    Suzanne says:

My favorite bag I travel with is my pink toiletries bag. I bought it for $35 as a college student and thought I was spending a FORTUNE on it. I still love it!

  33. 183
    Amanda W. says:

I used to love my train case to bring on trips, but now I’m totally in love with these beautiful bags! The green and blue are both gorgeous! In my train case, I’m able to pack all my bottled items, like shampoo, etc. and they don’t fall over or spill!

  34. 184
    Kristen M. says:

Oh my goodness, those bags would certainly glam up my traveling gear. Currently a mishmash, I have to admit.

My favorite travel bag has to be my little one’s backpack….we fill it with snacks, books, playdough, crayons, pads of paper. She carries this filled-to-the-brim bag on her little back with such pride as we go through the airport.

  35. 185
    Nama says:

I have to admit, I never have felt like I had the perfect travel bag. I’ve been on searches before looking for something between backpack and purse land that I can easily throw important items and not feel the burden of it. I think these bags are fabulous and just might be my answer!

  36. 186
    Chacoy says:

Well I have a bag that I have had for over 12 years, that has seen it’s better days, it has holes in it and duct tape where I tried to make a patch job;} It has been a good bag- has spots for all of my stuff and stuff for all of my spots;} tee hee I do carry another little bag that I got from a deceased friend, that carries my extra set of shoes, pamplets, snacks, camera and of course my sons stuff too.

These are gorgeous, and would be so much better on the eyes than my duct tape, old faithful{didn’t say reliable} lol Thank you for the opprotunity!

  37. 187
    Katie Gill says:

I love taking my ‘carry on’ hold all bag. I love the excitement of having my passport and tickets in there, the currency for the country I’m visiting, the guidebook for where I’m going, my cosy cardigan and notebook for ideas – I love all the excitement one small bag can contain for a trip away.

  38. 188
    Kelly says:

I love my bag with a magnetic closer. The magnets make it easy to open and close. Those bags are so cute! Thanks for the chance to win!

  39. 189
    Krista says:

By far my favorite bag to carry is a red leather vintage 1950’s train case. It’s classic, durable and looks great with any outfit. I always seem to carry my nicest dresses in it when traveling. Maybe it’s a subconscious choice but it makes me feel a bit chic, even when flying on an 8 hour flight to Colombia stuck between 2 voluminous elbowed strangers.

    amanda heath says:

I have to have my suitcase with wheels. It’s small but packs BIG and is so easy to maneuver.

  41. 191
    Erin says:

I’ve had the same trusty book bag since the first year of high school (that’s like 10 years… geeze!). It fits my laptop and some books (obviously my most precious cargo), and I’ve covered it with patches from all of the places I’ve been to.

  42. 192
    Hattie says:

I have a big blue and green boat tote style tote bag. It’s my favorite to pack because it means we’re off to the lake or beach. It’s the perfect size to hold two rolled up towels and a book. Inside it has a little zipper pocket I use for chapstick, a few hair band, and a mirror. I use the two outside pockets for a water bottle and sunscreen. Everytime I look at that bag I remember many happy hours in the sun with family and friends!

  43. 193
    Lily Isaacs says:

My grand parents have this primary colour backpack that I borrow on my travels. It’s all small and cute, but a TON of stuff can fit in it. like travel maps, pictures I take, my jacket, money, stuff I find on the ground (I never pull things off plants just so you know), my hat, my laptop. This bag is the best, plus it reminds me of the backpacks I used to carry in elementary school. nostalgic and comfortable, now if only I had a luggage bag to go with it (*hint *hint)

  44. 194
    Tori says:

I typically use a small rolling suitcase that just barely fits into the overhead compartment. I had a bad experience with lost luggage and so try not to check bags. I store EVERYTHING in the carryon!

  45. 195
    Claudia says:

It depends. For travel on a road trip, my favorite is definitely one that is not too big and you can carry on your shoulder. Comfort comes first for me. I don’t care so much about the look, as long as it is easy to carry. If I’m flying, I look for a medium size luggage with wheels and I wear a big purse with all the essentials.

  46. 196
    Ashley says:

I usually travel with my trusted purple suitcase. Its different enough that is doesn’t get lost in the crowd. :)

  47. 197
    sarah says:

I typically use a backpack from college for my carry on.
It works perfectly because it holds books etc quite nicely and has tinier compartments for other fun things!  (crayons, ipod, pens, keys, etc

  48. 198
    Nancy says:

My favorite bag to carry is a striped tote bag from Gap, which is about the size of a standard backpack.  I enjoy carrying this bag because it is bigger than my purse, so I can definitely hold everyday essentials, such as my make-up, toiletries, wallet, and even some snacks (yes, I get hungry when I travel!).  I also like this bag because there are extra little pockets throughout the bag, so it helps me to stay organized because I can sort all of my belongings into different categories – this ultimately makes it easier for me to find whatever I need quickly, which is especially helpful at the airport when you have to take out your ID and ticket, etc.

  49. 199
    ZOm says:

I’m a total travel minimalist. My perfect packing equals one small travel carry-on that serves as my luggage for the whole trip. On business trips this is a lifesaver and on trips for pleasure…well, you can always buy cheap luggage to haul the goodies home!

    Sam says:

I travel light (don’t like to carry to much:-) so my favorite back is my duffel carry on. Perfect size to fit all I need for a long weekend trip: jammies, fav pair of jeans, high black boots, cuite tops x2 for night, toiletries, undergarments, 1 set of running gear, white top and wrap sweater:-). Comfortable shoulder straps and roomy inside. Just wish it had a inside pocket for me.
