In this world there are things that are certain to bring delight–a child’s giggle, the sound of the ocean, a really good hug and of course cupcakes. In most any situation and for just about any occasion a cupcake will do the trick! There is something about these short, little cakes that bring a smile to my face. And not just my face…topped with a sugary hat, these petite treats have developed quite the cult following.
With a following of their own, Saint Cupcake opened its doors in 2005 but their recipes are not so new. Several of their delectable concoctions come from owner, Jami Curl’s gramma who still gets calls for tips and tricks. All natural ingredients pair with recipes that have stood the test of time for a magically tasty experience. Just as they would at home Curl and her team of talented bakers, whip up small batches of cupcakes to ensure only the yummiest sweets are served up. Their shops in Oregon have many a customer that flock to the bountiful cupcake counters but that left the rest of this wonderful country feeling a little left out.
Never fear! The saints at Saint Cupcake began shipping cupcakes across the United States in 2009. Best of all you can customize your St. Cupcake Kit using their magical cupcake selector so when your cute cakes arrive on your doorstep it is a perfect package just for you. You choose your cake flavor, icing, and sprinkles and they package it up in a pretty box complete with icing wand and instructions for easy-peasy decorating. The possibilities are endless: carrot cake + cream cheese icing + chocolate jimmies? vanilla toffee + vanilla buttercream + pink crystals? how about vegan chocolate cake + hot fudge icing + rainbow nonperrils? Are you drooling yet?

Black Tie Mousse Cake from Olive Garden is my fave. Maybe OG isn’t that fancy- but I love that dessert. It’s rich and creamy. I always save over half of it for later. The end is coated in mini chocolate chips, the layers are delicious chocolate icing, chocolate cake, some creamy vanilla mousse thing, and some creamy chocolate mousse thing. DIVINE.
CUPCAKES have always been my favorite desert, or breakfast, sometimes as a snack! I just love the tiny sweet individual cakes. My bff gave me a box of Babycakes last month and I was in heaven. If I had to pick my favorite one it would be chocolate with pink sprinkles but lemon is a close second! Cupcakes are mini works of art, they are personal, you don’t have to share them and they travel well! LOVE CUPCAKES!
ummm…looks so good! my favorite dessert is probably tiramisu, made by my oma. she is an incredible baker! drooling about it now! lol
Pistachio chocolate cheesecake is so decadent and fabulous I still crave it three years after I last ate it. There were pistachios and a chocolate ribbon throughout the cheesecake, and a chocolate crust.
Hot Fudge Cake with ice cream….yum!!
Oooh, this is easy! While this is a simple answer, it truly is my favorite dessert. Whenever I’m in Argentina I have dulce de leche icecream. It is truly heaven on earth!!! You need to make a dulce de leche cupcake. ;-)
The most delicious dessert I ever had is my Aunt’s homemade Birthday cake’s when I was a child. Just simple white cake and frosting with my favorite characters on the top like strawberry shortcake or the smurfs! I think it was all the love that went in to making them! They were delicious!
Million Dollar Pie-it’s got pineapple, cherries, sweetened condensed milk and other delicious stuff in a graham cracker crust.
The best dessert I’ve ever had is my mom’s Yule Log. It’s a traditional Christmas cake, but I love it so much my mom makes it for my birthday as well. Essentially, it is a roulade made with light and fluffy chocolate sponge cake and rolled with even lighter and fluffier chocolate cream. I’ve never had a chocolate dessert as rich and as airy as my mom’s Yule Log. The only downside is that it takes a lot of time and effort to make, so I would be ecstatic if someone could concoct a cupcake version!
It’s a toss-up between (non-alcoholic) tiramisu and the Indian dessert rasmalai. They’re both so good in slightly different ways!!!
The first dessert that really excited me was one that I made when I was about 8 years old. My Grandmother said I was in charge of dessert one night and I started creating and cooking on my own. I scooped chocolate chip ice cream into round scoops, rolled them in sweetened coconut & put them back in the freezer to stay cold. Then I cooked special sauce of peanut butter, brown sugar and milk cooked until it was bubbly. The ice cream was served in the old fashioned sundae dishes with the warm sauce over it and I was as proud as could be! Now, I’m not sure how that would taste today – but perhaps I’ll revisit that concoction with my own daughter!
Best dessert ever – it’s a toss up between “un crepe de chocolate” in Paris and chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake. Crepes in Paris – simply amazing, but not sure how much of that has to do with the simple fact that you are in Paris? And chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake – well, that’s to die for. Chocolate cookie crust; rich, silky cheesecake, filled with gobs of gooey and delicious chocolate chip cookie dough – what’s not to love???
I had a molten chocolate-filled chocolate cake at Spago in Maui. This was the most ridiculously amazing desert that has ever crossed my lips!
An amazing 7-layer carrot raisin cake!! YUM! Each layer was jam packed full of moist, plump, juicy raisins, strings of carrots, and full of cinnamon/nutmeg flavor! And then there’s the thick layers of cream cheese buttercream frosting in between. Oh my goodness! Silky smooth, thick frosting that just melted in my mouth! This amazing experience can be found at Bella Luna restaurant in Wichita, KS… Mmmm!
My all time favorite is good old simple Southern Chocolate Chess Pie!
Warm from the oven with a big glob of REAL whipped cream and you are in dessert heaven.
Your cupcake kit is simply brilliant! I’m wishing you lots of success with it.
Molten Lava cake from Orsos in Anchorage Alaska. Delicious rich chocolate cake with some sort of magical fudge sauce that oooozes out when you cut into it. I still lament over the fact that they stopped making it 6 years ago. :(
That would be the dessert I had last night! My parents came into town and we went to a local restaurant with an excellent menu and wonderful food. They had some dessert specials, one being Creme Brulee. It came in a custard cup type of dish rather than the usual shallow dish, topped with blackberries and sliced strawberry. The sugar was caramelized perfectly, and it was oh, so creamy and good! I was full from dinner, but there was no way I was letting any of my creme brulee go to waste!
The most delicious dessert I’ve ever had is our family recipe Kahlua cake. It’s a very moist, fudgy dark chocolate cake with hints of Kahlua/coffee flavor. It isn’t overly sweet, but it is rich and sinfully chocolatey. Consuming this cake has been known to lead to wicked grins of satiation and proposals of marriage. And when I cut a small slice as it’s still cooling from the oven, my tastebuds dance.
Hands down the Lemon Creme Cake from Olive Garden! My hubby and I looooove it. We actually loved it so much we had to order several little cakes for our wedding! The cake is fluffy and creme is light, its the perfect combination! Yummy!
Pumpkin Cheesecake Cupcake w. Cream Cheese Icing.
I love all things pumpkin or cheesecake, so the two together just rocked my world! :)
The bananas foster at Club 33 at Disneyland. So delicious!
i remember this dessert with vivid joy. i was travelling in Monte Carlo in 1992 (yes – this made quite an impression!). i was a poor college grad backpacking my way through europe and a little bummed that i wasn’t in the position (wardrobe wise) to enjoy the glamour of Monte Carlo. So i figured i’d at least sit at a nice outdoor bistro on the water and enjoy what i do best: ice cream. i ordered a sundae. what arrived at my table was nothing less than a miniature parade! 3 flavors of ice cream toppled with a sprinkling of dried fruit (pineapple, cranberry, apricot come to mind). which was topped with a fruit bowls worth of fresh fruit (kiwi, pineapple, strawberry, mango, blueberry), which was topped with a little caramel river and a hot fudge trickle, which was topped with a dollop of fresh whipped cream. to complete the picture of delight – was a topping of colorful sprinkles and a small sparkler for that extra dash of festivity. i was in heaven! and i no longer cared that i was not able to gamble in the chic casinos.
most delicious dessert? probably gingerbread cheesecake or gingerbread bread pudding… i love cinnamon/ginger/spicey things!
A cookie changed my life. It was the the salted caramel macaron from La Pâtisserie Arnaud Larher in Paris. It was sweet/salty/buttery delicious perfection. Each bite was heaven.
My favorite is Creme Brulee! Someday I will try and make it myself.
Its cheap, frozen, out of a box and no longer available. Pepperidge Farms Coconut cake. Not the one they make now, the one that was vanilla cake with pineapple filling between each of the layers. Yummy simple vanilla frosting with toasted coconut on top. yum! haven’t had it since I was a kid. Not fancy, but fabulous all the same. If anyone knows this $3.99 box of delish is in their grocery aisle – PLEASE TELL ME!!!! I will hunt it down. yummy!
j_k_batt@yahoo.com (seriously, will love you forever) jen
Fire in the hole. My boyfriend makes deserts for me all the time, things he makes up. Recently, he made a treat out of three of my favorite things: pineapple, homemade vanilla and caramel. Basically, it’s a grilled circular pineapple slice. You scoop just enough vanilla to cover the hole. Drizzle it with warm caramel. Fire in the hole! I encourage everyone to try it :)
The best dessert my whole life were Birthday Cakes from my Mother- always a Double Chocolate Fudge Layer Cake and an Angelfood Cake. Always two cakes! Got them 50 years straight!
When I was dating my husband he made a dense chocolate cake with cherries in it (not maraschino, but big juicy real ones) and a wonderful chocolate icing for his roommates birthday. It was amazing. He has never been able to replicate it perfectly, though so I have to wonder if it was the love in the air that was adding to its deliciousness?
Petit Fours from New Orleans. I have searched high and low for something to close to the taste of petit fours from the bakeries in New Orleans – but no luck.
The tiny little white cakes have the lightest coating of sugary icing and adorned with a beautiful blossom. They are the perfect dessert!

The most delicious dessert I’ve ever had was a mixed berry crumble. It was fresh out of the oven so completely gooey. It had sugar melting on top and was at once crunchy but soft. The flavors were delicate, sweet and tangy all at once. It was served with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream that slowly melted. Pure heaven.
I seem to love all dessert, but my mom has a red velvet cake recipe that makes my heart beat a little faster. She got it from my grandmother and if I ate it every time I wanted it I would die of a heart attack. I hate making the frosting since it is based on pudding but every year my husband makes the recipe for me on my birthday.
He doesn’t like it though, so I eat probably the entire cake myself.
Dessert definitely has both taste and memories attached to it when you reach my age. Looking at the photo of cupcakes made me think of the cupcakes we ate in grade school that mothers would bring in when it was a classmate’s birthday. There was the anticipation, the break in the normal routine, and then the cupcakes themselves which usually were decorated with red hots that were slightly shedding their red into the frosting by the time they were eaten. A gooey sugar break and a rest from studying. Doesn’t get much better than that when you are a child!
Oh Saint Cupcake, I <3 thee!! Yay for Oregon cupcakes!
And my favorite dessert is ice cream with Magic Shell topping. Especially if it is ice cream with the Denali fudge and little cups of either mint or caramel or peanut butter. *drool* Now I want ice cream.
I have had some amazing desserts in my life, but one of the best was a molten chocolate cake that my sister made. She can’t cook ANYTHING, except Kraft Mac & cheese. But this was so good!!!! She made it with a chocolate truffle inside. The fact that she made me something made the cake even more tasty. Now her recipe repertoire is up to two.
Tough question! I have had love affairs with many desserts, all homemade from scratch. It seems the simpler the better, especially if you can taste the fresh ingredients. Vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce. Cinnamon buns. Mexican Wedding Cookies. Oh heck, anything with the right amount of sweetness. :)
Lemon mousse cake with raspberry puree…I wish could eat it for lunch right now.
So many to choose from… The black raspberry pie that my mom made me every year for my birthday it probably my favorite, with a scoop of cookies and creme ice cream.
The best dessert that ever passed these lips was a Vegan Cheesecake made by my friend Neil! Talk about died and gone to heaven— incredibly tasty, even better than the real thing, Bono, and not even fattening!!! Yum!
Real CHURROS – I mean the ones from BARCELONA with the dark chocolate thick sauce you dip them in! Real churros don’t have sugar and cinnamon on them, they are just a delicious plain pastry that you dip in this AMAZING THICK chocolate sauce they make in Spain. I have never had a better dessert before or after my study abroad experience in Barcelona. I miss those churros all the time and I can’t find authentic thick chocolate sauce like it is in Spain here in the States! Now I’m hungry for churros and thick amazing chocolate sauce!
Fresh mangoes, straight off the tree, with a darling boy on a beach in Kauai.
Last year, my husband and I shared an amazing dessert at Alan Wongs. It was a chocolate coconut. Dark chocolate coated fleshy, coconut icecream. It was filled with exotic fruits: raspberries, strawberries, kiwis, pineapple, etc. A passion fruit coulis was drizzled over the top. Aye Carumba! I still think about that bad Larry.
Tough choice, but I’m going to go with the old stand by of Angel food cake (homemade) with in-season strawberries and fresh, REAL whipped cream. Simple is best!
the first red velvet cupcake I had. my-oh-my… with a heap of cream cheese frosting, perfectly melty chocolate chips inside, and it was about half the size of my head. my love for red velvet came quick (during the first bite) and continues on today. I think my first red velvet cupcake memory will soon be trumped as my favorite desert: my wedding cupcakes are going to be red velvet, so that combined with my wedding day will be pretty spectacular.
It’s was a chocolate lava cake with vanilla bean ice cream. My mom and I were in NYC visiting the university I had just been accepted to. We decided to stop for some lunch at this posh little restaurant and then decided that because we had been walking so much that we deserved a little dessert. We chose the chocolate lava cake. Now I am a lover of all baked goods, especially chocolate, and you can usually find some delicious homemade treat in my kitchen any day of the week, but I can honestly say I have never tasted a cake so delicious as this. It was warm and moist and rich. The chocolate filling was a rich silky dark chocolate and the perfect smooth consistency that slowly oozed out as I scooped bite after bite into my salivating mouth. The vanilla bean ice cream was creamy and smooth and the perfect compliment to the cake and chocolate sauce. A little bit of cake, sauce, and ice cream in a bite was mouth nirvana. I savored each mouthful and spent the rest of the trip remembering the cake with my mom. I really wish I had pigged out and ordered one for myself. Now that I’m back on the West Coast I still dream about that cake and have so far been unsuccessful in finding an adequate duplicate.
The best dessert I ever had was creme brulee in Paris. No words are necessary!
Mmm. It all sounds so good! My favorite is Spumoni gelato with Genettis. Two Southern Italian GENIUS concoctions thatwere born to be paired with each other and grappa.
Every year growing up in Oregon on Fathers Day we would go up to the Strawberry festival at this grange out in the middle of nowhere. They made the most delicious strawberry shortcake ever! Not only were the stawberries perfect, but they we served with real whipped cream and the best shortcake ever. That has basically ruined strawberry shortcake for me for the rest of time. Amazing stuff!
I love White Spot cheesecake. Not too sweet, fluffy – great texture. Heaven! Thank you for the chance!
My mom’s carrot cake is hands down the best thing I have ever eaten. I try other carrot cake and it all pales in comparison… It has the most rich icing and stays moist for days, a key factor in any cake selection.
