In this world there are things that are certain to bring delight–a child’s giggle, the sound of the ocean, a really good hug and of course cupcakes. In most any situation and for just about any occasion a cupcake will do the trick! There is something about these short, little cakes that bring a smile to my face. And not just my face…topped with a sugary hat, these petite treats have developed quite the cult following.

With a following of their own, Saint Cupcake opened its doors in 2005 but their recipes are not so new. Several of their delectable concoctions come from owner, Jami Curl’s gramma who still gets calls for tips and tricks. All natural ingredients pair with recipes that have stood the test of time for a magically tasty experience. Just as they would at home Curl and her team of talented bakers, whip up small batches of cupcakes to ensure only the yummiest sweets are served up.  Their shops in Oregon have many a customer that flock to the bountiful cupcake counters but that left the rest of this wonderful country feeling a little left out.

Never fear! The saints at Saint Cupcake began shipping cupcakes across the United States in 2009. Best of all you can customize your St. Cupcake Kit using their magical cupcake selector so when your cute cakes arrive on your doorstep it is a perfect package just for you. You choose your cake flavor, icing, and sprinkles and they package it up in a pretty box complete with icing wand and instructions for easy-peasy decorating. The possibilities are endless: carrot cake + cream cheese icing + chocolate jimmies? vanilla toffee + vanilla buttercream +  pink crystals? how about vegan chocolate cake + hot fudge icing + rainbow nonperrils? Are you drooling yet?

I think the most yummy would have to be a low carb cheesecake with pecans and cranberries. This was after a long diet of no sweets and it was to die for.

Well, the most interesting dessert I’ve ever had was a deep-fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Grape jelly. I believe it was battered in something like pancake batter and probably (hopefully!) not fried with the fish. I remember it was served cut in half and fairly tall, but it was smaller in area than an ordinary PB+J. I believe it was served in something like an upscale Irish-type pub.

Good luck picking the winners! Hopefully you’ll get some awesome ideas for yourselves.

Whilst in Milan for my 18th birthday we were recommended a restaurant by the lovely barman. After a delicious starter and main course, I chose a chilli chocolate parcel mousse. The tangy chocolate mousse was wrapped in chocolate pastry and melted in the mouth. The chilli added such a amazing unique taste. Probably the best desert I have ever had.

ooooh! my favourite desert ever was our wedding cake! My friend Sarah perfectly made us a 3 tier cake as well as 3 giant slab cakes to be cut up into small pieces.
the cake was a lemon ginger cake and it came from Ontario’s LCBO magazine. It was delicious! so moist and thick. We even saved a piece for when my good friend Nancy was able to visit 4 months later as she couldn’t attend the wedding, and the cake was still delicious! Yay Sarah!!

One of my favourite desserts is homemade tiramisù. I’m italian, so I guess I’m a little picky about the recipe: it has to be creamy (no panna please!) and little pieces of chocolate along cacao powder is best!

The most delicious dessert I’ve ever had was surprisingly simple. I’ll never forget that fateful day three summers ago. It was at the tail end of my time abroad in Korea when my friends and I were finding every excuse to spend time together before our departure. We left campus, braving a heat index of 100 to venture through Sinchon and quickly came to regret our decision. We turned into a hole-in-the-wall noodle house to use the restroom and catch a blast of air-conditioning when a sign for desserts caught our eye. This is when we came to discover watermelon over shaved ice delicately drizzled with condensed milk and sugar. (Trust me, it’s way better than it sounds). It was refreshing with the exact amount of sweet. It was the perfect remedy to the heat and served as a great final memory of our time in Korea.

My favorite dessert “today” is Geogia Cornbread Cake….don’t know why it doesn’t have anything corny in it..1 c. granulated sugar
    1 c. brown sugar
    4 well beaten eggs
    1 c. oil
    1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
    1 1/2 c. self rising flour
2 c. finely chopped pecans (I only used 1c. and it was fine)
    * Heat oven to 350. Grease a 9 X13 in. baking pan.
*Mix sugars, eggs and oil in a large bowl until well combined. Stir in vanilla, then add flour and pecans and mix well.
    * Pour in prepared pan and bake 35 minutes.

Guinness Beer Brownies – I made them for a party thinking “this will be weird, hardly any sugar in these things!” and it ended up being the hit of the party, and every social function I made them for after that. They taste like a rich chocolatey cake with a cream cheese frosting (to mimic the head on a glass of beer), and they have just the slightest Guinness taste to remind you, “Yep, they’re made with beer!”

a birthday cupcake from ‘The Sister’s McMullin’ cupcakery in Asheville, NC fr my 33 birthday. I enjoyed my cupcake that day with my husband Shawn, my cousin and best friend Lindsey and her husband Gino. Not sure if it was the cupcake or the company, but it sure was good.

I once made this epic baklava that was just out of this world delicious. I must have gotten everything absolutely perfect. The next time I tried to make baklava it was gross- all burnt and too sweet. I never tried to make it again.

    Adrian says:

Really? I think this is the toughest question that has been on here yet. How am I too choose? I would have to say that my favorite thing is cheesecake. Anyway you can make it. But I really love a good graham cracker crust, smooth cream cheese filling, tiny chocolate chips on top, with a tad of whipped cream, and caramel drizzled over it all. Scrumptious!

  17. 267
    Kate Allison says:

My favorite dessert was a chocolate cake I baked for a friend. It was made with melted dark chocolate from scratch. I hollowed out the top and poked holes in it. Then I made a melted chocolate mixture with dark chocolate, cream, and cherry brandy and poured that in the center. I cooked down cherries and added that to the center, then covered in with almond flavored whipped cream (real, obviously). It was wonderful. I was really happy that it was totally devoured so I didn’t pig out on it the next day.

    melanie says:

oh, goodness. i’ll go with fresh, warm, gooey, nutella crepes bought on the streets of the ile de cite in paris on a late rainy night with my husband on our honeymoon. granted, there are a few circumstances propelling the crepes to the top of my list, but i’m pretty sure they would be contenders even on a bad day!

This past Christmas, I made Martha’s (Stewart) Birthday Cake for about 20 guests (http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/marthas-birthday-cake). It is layer upon decadent layer of almond cake, almond butter cream, and apricot jam all saturated with an almond simple syrup. Then it’s covered with swiss almond meringue that you brown lightly with a torch. It took me about 8 hours to make over a 2-day period and perhaps that was why it was the best dessert I’ve ever tasted.

In culinary school we made something called dacquoise. It’s the name almond/meringue crisped cake layers, but also the name of a finished dessert. The layers of dacquoise are topped with coffee buttercream, and the finished dessert has toasted almond slivers coating the buttercream. It’s crispy, crunchy, creamy, salty, and sweet all at the same time. It’s the most amazing “cake” I’ve ever had. I may have to go make one right now.

    Hannah Jacobs says:

The most delicious dessert I’ve ever had was the dessert called “Sex in a Bowl.”

Glue Cake! The best mom in the world, and worst baker in the world, made me a cake for my 5th birthday, it was a cross between angel food cake and red velvet cake with frosting layers in between. It came out like a giant pink piece of frosted glue! With candles of course. But all the kids loved it and she has been a family favorite ever since.

Gooseberry pie! Our family loves it so much that my mother has gooseberry bushes in her back yard. When it’s time to make pie, we go outside and pick the berries and take off their little beards(stems)! She makes a very simple crust and the pie is sweet, tart, and slightly cinnamony. Delicious warm with some ice cream or cold from the fridge. When you eat it cold you don’t even need a fork; just pick it up like a slice of pizza!

On a trip to Vegas we ate at a Mexican restaurant in a casino – it was gone a short time later – but what lives on is the memory of the peach-caramel crepe dessert. Thin, delicate vanilla crepes around a creamy-cheesy filling, with tart sliced peaches on top, all drizzled with a buttery caramel topping….oh heaven.

    Sara Gray says:

There is just something really amazing about the ice cream in Argentina, and while my husband and I were spending several months abroad last year, we got completely hooked. The first time I tasted the chocolate laced with dulce de leche, my life changed forever. Every lick was full of caramel and chocolate, and it was melting down my fingers by the end of the day. I have come close to buying myself a ticket just for another taste.

I am a wedding planner, so I have had some amazing cakes and cupcakes. However, one of my favorite desserts I have ever had is the banana cream pie at Ruths Chris Steakhouse. It was light and delicious. My other favorite is creme brulee ice cream, made at a local San Diego spot, Extraordinary Desserts. Heaven.

There is a restaurant in Mexico City called Barrio Norte, on Prado Norte street in the neighborhood Lomas de Chapultepec. They have a sort of trifle desert with homemade vanilla ice-cream, strawberries, this ridiculously light and delicious baked merengue, and a sweet cream sauce. It sounds so simple, but I’d never tasted anything so good before; I think I might kick puppies for that dessert… ok, I’d never kick a puppy, but I remember thinking, “If I could work here and sleep in the back, I’d move to Mexico today.” I should add that I’m addicted to sugar. I’m named for my grandmother who was addicted to sugar, so it’s literally in my blood (bad joke, I know). I jog twenty-five odd miles a week so I can have as much sugar as I want. I know my desserts, and THIS was DESSERT.

    Claire says:

My mother makes the same tart for me each year on my birthday – I can’t get older without it!  It’s a rich, buttery pate brisee crust, with a vanilla pastry-cream custard inside, with just a touch of lemon zest.  Then it’s filled with perfect blueberries, and glazed with a raspberry jam.  It has come to me in three states and two countries, and I look forward to it every year!

    Jenni says:

The best desert I have ever had was at a wonderful restaurant in town. THey brought us a trio of candies each. A chocolate truffle, a caramel and a grape gumdrop. We took one look and said, “lets eat the gumdrop first” thinking it couldn’t possibly be as good at the chocolate and so it needed to serve as the opening act, not the main course.
…we were horribly mistaken! One bite into this grape gumdrop and my entire body melted. THe gumdrop was velvety, soft, squishy and perfect. It had the perfect mixture of sweet and sour and it melted on my tongue as I slowly sat there awestruck melting back into my chair. It was perfection…and I only wish I had another one to eat right now!

    Sarah says:

What fun! The only thing more wonderful that cupcakes has to be CUTE cupcakes that come in the mail to your door! My Grammy’s incredible Red Velvet Cake is my favorite dessert of all time, not only because it’s scrumptious, but because there are such happy childhood memories associated with it.

I’m a dessert person—I love to eat dessert and I also love to share it (okay, I don’t love to share out of my bowl, but I do love to share the experience!). I have many sweet dessert memories, but I can still taste the soft vanilla ice-cream cone with Cadbury’s chocolate flake (the combination is called a “99″ in Ireland) my grandfather took me for, to reward me for my hard day of work in the bog! We drove into the village straight from the bog in the big old tractor, the warm breeze blowing, my grandfather cracking jokes along the way. My grandfather had a 99 too, and we both sat on a bench outside the shop, savoring our soft creamy cones, in the delicious silence of dessert. Sidenote: I wolfed down my chocolate stick as soon as I got my 99—I never could eat it slowly!—but when I was almost finished with my cone, my grandfather gave me his flake. If I am ever even half as generous as my grandfather was, I’ll be a happy person.

The Brownie A La Mode at Cheesecake Factory. Wow! Must share with 3 other people since it’s so large, but it has the warmest brownies with vanilla ice cream, and whip cream, and the whole works. Delicious!

Spanish Sherry Cake made mostly with pound cake, egg yolks, ground almonds, and sherry. I can only imagine the great sense of purpose achieved from pairing it with Tillamook Vanilla Bean ice cream!! I made it in the 1980s for special events (too much would surely clog anyone’s arteries!) and lost the recipe in a fire, never to find it again. :-( I lust for that cake ….

    Kristi says:

The most delicious dessert I’ve ever had is a chocolate and vanilla swirled cheesecake, topped with fresh raspberries, made by a friend of mine. She apologized for the cracks in the top, even though the berries hid them well. She didn’t need the apology; the cheesecake was smooth and creamy, and the taste transported me to a distant galaxy…until it was gone!

The most delicious dessert I ever had followed one of the best meals I have ever had. It was at a small restaurant in San Diego in a converted house near the beach. Kahlua cream cheese filled crepes, drizzled with caramel sauce… YUM!

The best desert I ever had was crème brûlée at a restaurant in Avignon, France. I had never liked it but decided to try it while living in France. Since then I ALWAYS order crème brûlée at a restaurant if it is on the menu regardless of the circumstances. And I adore it every time.
