{please visit red leaf here}

The summer of my seventh grade year, I made my own lotion, face masks, lip balm. I used ingredients from the kitchen and my teen magazine supplied the recipes. By mid-afternoon, I looked and smelled like a rancid bowl of chicken salad. DIY fail.

Chris P., the mastermind behind Red Leaf bath and body products has succeeded for me. Inspired by the lack of a good moisturizer during a frigid winter, a line of products based on simple everyday ingredients was born. Red Leaf covers all the bases, from men’s soap to room sprays to a shampoo bar (!) ensconced in its own metal traveling case.  The bubble bath dough has already won a place in my heart, as soon as I can decide on a scent. Although, if I order more than one, I can rearrange the gorgeous color blocked packages on my shelf every time the mood strikes. One of each, please.

Miss Krista, our Weekend Editor, is a mother, a lover and a big believer in the power of a cupcake. She loves double entendres but is not a fan of the high-five. She blogs about the corners of her heart at my life as i see it.

Red Leaf is giving away a full-sized bubble bath dough AND a room spray in your choice of scent to one winner. In order to win, please answer the following question by March 5, 2010:
What was your favorite bath toy as a child?
Good luck! Please start checking the yellow winners box on Wednesday, March 10, 2010.

A red bucket! My mom had this red bucket that she used to put all my bath toys in like barbies, plastic fish, etc… But the red bucket with white handle was my absolute favorite toy! I would use a wash cloth and drape it over the bucket and would make a cave for my barbies, I used the bucket as a waterfall, I loved using the bucket as a suction cup to the bottom of the tub. Hands down my favorite toy, was a simple red bucket, that’s all a child’s imagination needs!

    Sharon says:

Mr. Bubble was my favorite bath toy. Taht and my imagination was all I needed for a great time in the tub. I usually had to share both the tub and the Mr. Bubble with my little sister, but I had such a good time with the bubbles, that I didn’t even mind.

    Lauren says:

I lived with my great grandparents, and bath toys were considered frivolous… So, I played with my Meme’s shampoos, body washes, bubble baths, etc. She had no idea, of course, but I would experiment with every bottle in the bathroom. My hair had usually been shampooed and conditioned 10x after a bath.

    Barbie, she went everywhere!

  8. 208

It wasn’t a toy…I loved to play with the washcloth. They float until they are fully saturated with water, so I liked to trap as much air in it as I could while dragging it into the water. Not sure if that even makes sense to you, but I would do it over and over and over. And now my daughter loves to play with the washcloth too…she is her mother’s child!

We had a few plastic boats that had an AWFUL time staying afloat. My sister and I used to stage tidal waves or some other horrific disaster. I remember once my sister threw one of them just as Mom opened the door to the bathroom, sending it rocketing out into the hallway dripping wet all over the hardwood, splashing Mom on the way. I believe the explanation for the boats’ disappearance was along the lines of “Funny how much influence the Bermuda Triangle has on a Midwest bathtub.”

  22. 222

All the best bath toys were at my grandmothers. They were the ones my uncles had played with- fabulous boats, a rubber ducky, random things with spouts and drains and ways to squirt water. Plus I had my cousins to play with me in the tub!
At home I was much more well behaved. There I spent bath time getting clean and maybe drawing on the tub walls with bathtub crayons.

  32. 232
    Molly says:

I had colorful foam blocks that would stick the shower walls when they got wet and would float – I could build on water and then let my barbies lounge in the “pool”. I was also fond of measuring cups…lol

  33. 233
    Rebecca Stainback says:

We didn’t have an indoor bath until I was six years old…….so I thought I was simply in “heaven” when bath time came around. My mom always kept a box of Mr. Bubble for me – so the bubbles kept me entertained. I would have bubbles everywhere and if mom left the room – I would pour more into the water!

  34. 234
    danelle says:

shampoo… as silly as that might seem. i would suds my hair into enormously frothy styles — all the while pretending to film tv commercials for an imaginary camera, boasting all of the miracle properties of the product.

  35. 235
    Janet says:

My herd of My Little Ponies! They’d all get their hair washed, and then we’d play out some sort of a water adventure. My mom would always eventually have to pull me out of the tub. By then my fingers would have those skin wrinkles we get from being in the water too long. Sadly, I’ve never out grown the too-long-bath. Those wrinkles are still my cue to get out of my grown up baths :)

  38. 238

Plain old shampoo. I would lather up my hair, flip it all forward and roll it into a single large white bubbly roll across my head… Is it weird that I pretended to be Martha Washington in a wig?

  39. 239
    sara says:

A My Little Pony book. It was plastic so you could bring it in the bath with you and it was awesome. I wish I still had it.

  40. 240

Just plain old tupperware. We had to make do with what we had. It made us more creative I guess!

  41. 241
    milo says:

I have no memories of bathtime as a child. I do remember, with all fondness, how my mother used to wash my hair in the kitchen sink before I’d learned the fine art of detangling. She’d tell me stories, or we’d jam out to stuff like Earth Wind & Fire. And the best part was when she rinsed my hair with the hand-held sprayer thing. It was so relaxing, and the feeling of her hands on my head so loving. And sometimes she’d spray it in my face and we’d have a little water fight. Or a big one!

  42. 242
    Marilyn says:

    An empty shampoo bottle.

  43. 243
    Gina says:

the hand held shower head because I would spray and get everyone wet !

    Connie says:

A washcloth! Not only could did I love chewing on it (I know, ew!) but my aunt would put some soap in it and blow bubbles through it… seriously, try it! It’s like a waterfall of foamy bubbles emerging from nowhere. A HUGE hit with all the kids I baby-sit and maybe with my own one day.
