PLUM PRETTY SUGAR

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

plumprettysugar on the bright side project!

{please visit plum pretty sugar here}

Can you believe our 5th month of brightening up the internet ends today? I don’t know about you, but I am ready to curl up with a book on the sofa in my favorite robe. Preferably a super rad robe I won for free at one of the internet’s brightest spots on the web. {Hypothetically speaking, natch.} I love robes, of course. Comfy, cozy, simple, sexy–I own robes for each season, and can’t imagine padding around the house in the early morning or late evening without one of my beloved robes. In fact, I will go out on a limb and say you need not buy blankets with arms off late night television when you own a proper robe.

And I am challenged to find a robe more delicious than this knee high silk number from designer Charlotte Mills of Plum Pretty Sugar. Mills seeks to exalt lounge wear, as if their mission is not painfully obvious. The robe is made from habutai silk from India in colors of turquoise, pink, and white. It’s knee high, self tying, and oh so sexy. It’s also yours, our final gift to you in celebration of June’s Print + Pattern month.

Plum Pretty Sugar is giving away one kimono silk robe to the luck reader who best answers this question by Tuesday, July 7, 2009.

What color makes you most happy, and why?

Please start checking the winner’s box on Wednesday, June 8, 2009.

    JB says:

Red. Because it is always unexpected. Because even if something is supposed to be that color (ie apples) your eye is always drawn to it. Because it lights up an outfit, a picture, a room, a day.

  2. 202

hmm … that’s kind of a toughy, but i would have to say green!
green is such a versatile color – it can be vibrant and funky, lush like a forest, or soft and soothing. green is eco friendly and reminds me of growth … it is also means money, which none of us mind having. :)

my, is that a stunning kimono!

This is a hard one for me because I am notorious for not having favorites. When people ask my favorite colors I rattle off a list of 8. This question presents the same problem. I guess I would have to say that colors in general make me happy! The colors found in nature, the colors found walking down a runway, the colors of the ocean, the colors swirled together in a child’s masterpiece. These colors all make me giddy with excitement over the possibilities that color presents us with. I love raspberry, teal, green, yellow, pastels, magenta… But sometimes I see a new combination of color that I have never played with before, like gray and white and yellow, and I am happy seeing how they complement each other and how it is new to me and my eyes. I just can’t narrow it down. Which color makes me most happy? None… rather, ALL COLOR makes me most happy.

    Kim Henning says:

Absolutely Chartreuse! Love the color and its name and people know its my signature color.! I’ve just been drawn to it since my late teens (I’m now in my 40’s). Put me in a store and I will gravitate to it — especially if paired in an eye-catching combination with purple, orange or yellow! I wear alot of it actually since believe it or not, it works wiht my coloring and it makes me feel good. I have had chartreuse shoes, lots of tops, water bottles, watches, jewelry (in a toned down version), etc. Love this color and always will!

    JJ says:

I love any color that’s pops out where it’s not supposed to be! I love pink flamingoes on lush green grass. I love a red umbrella on a sugar sand beach. I love bright green eyes! I love a cool blue pool against the backdrop of a white house…

  6. 206
    Seema says:

A sunny yellow can always make me smile! There’s a freshness and an energy about it that is incredibly pleasing.

  7. 207
    Tara says:

That is a difficult question – I guess it really depends on my mood at the time. Ok, enough riding the fence – bright, jewel tones generally always make me happy…and blue…all shades of blue.

  8. 208
    achristinaw says:

i love seeing a bright orange because it always reminds me of my best friend (his favorite color)!

  9. 209
    catherine s. says:

I’m really liking pink these days and not because of my 2 year old daughter…that’s her favorite color. Red used to be my fav, but now it’s pink. It reminds me of the most fragile rose or rosy pink cheeks – pink goes with green, blue, brown, etc….and is that tint of color that makes you smile (or blush) – it’s just happy!

  10. 210
    Jaime A. says:

Green makes me feel great because it is the color of plants and spring and earthy things. I just love all earthy colors, but especially green. My love for green spurred me to move from Phoenix, AZ to Portland, Oregon!

  11. 211
    Colleen Dever says:

Pink. Growing up I was a very obedient child. I liked what my mother wanted me to like and did what she asked. As I came into adulthood I realized I had no “taste” of my own. I didn’t have a favorte color, style, music, etc. I always went with what everyone else liked. It took a long time (and I am still working on it) to allow myself to like things without getting the approval of others. Pink has been my favorite color since. It’s soft and feminine and just feels like it “fits” me. I get a lot of flack for loving the color pink. Some people think it’s just a girly thing and too little kid-ish. It doesn’t deter me, I am me and I love pink.

  12. 212

Turquoise makes me the happiest. There is something about the bright power it holds. It can be worn with black for an edgy accent or as a lively skirt with a summery white top. The versatility and elegance is amazing. (And it makes me look tanner which is always a bonus)

  13. 213
    milan says:

Tough question! I think a warm yellow has to be my favorite. Not only is it ‘in’ right now, but I think it really brightens up any color combination. Warm yellow’s one of those colors that’s used anywhere in the house, on clothing, in gardens or on paper because it truly makes people happy in their surroundings.

  14. 214
    Jennifer says:

Blue – it’s hard to say exactly which shade of blue, though, because I like so many. Blue skies, the variegated shades of blue ocean, blue sapphires… I like all blue!

  15. 215
    Courtney K says:

(Light) Aquamarine. All blues make me happy, but there’s something so peaceful about a barely there aquamarine.

  16. 216
    Sarah says:

I’m a rainbow lover, but my absolute favorite is GREEN! It’s the color of life springing from the earth, of my mother’s eyes, and my daughter’s birthstone.

  17. 217
    Jennifer says:

Pink makes me happiest. It is fresh, girly, and innocent. It has always been my favorite color and I think it always will be.

  18. 218
    helaineamy says:

Blue…probably because my mother decorated my childhood room in forrest green/maroon/beige (with a horrid patterned wallpaper on the ceiling!) and my sisters room in blue and whilte toile. i think that i always wished that i could have switched rooms. ironically, my adult room is blue and my sister’s is green.

  19. 219
    Kristen says:

What a DIFFICULT question to answer!!! My favorite colors do and always have changed frequently. If I had to pick just one, though, it would be the bright, pure, fantastic green that you only see when looking up through a canopy of leaves on a sunny day. That never fails to amaze me and make me feel happy inside. I have so many memories tied to that image – camping trips as a child, playing outside, spending time with a certain boy (now my husband) getting to know each other… I adore that color!

  20. 220

I’d say yellow and I don’t know why, maybe because you don’t see it that much. How many people really enjoy the color yellow? Isn’t it usually sort of a nuisance? Too bright and not pretty at all? I like it though. But maybe it’d be more accurate to say any bright color because its bright!

  21. 221
    Janne says:

Coral, in all it’s wonderful versions!
From the softest shell pink to the most vibrant fiery coral red,
It adds that glow from within flush to my cheeks…
    *swoon*

  22. 222
    Kristy says:

Periwinkle has always made me happy. This stems from my childhood when I would obsessively rearrange my big box of crayolas always reserving the best spot in the box for this lovely blueish-lavender color with the pretty name.

  23. 223
    Mariah says:

That’s a tough one. Red has always been my favorite color, mostly because when I was little, I didn’t want to be the girl, like every other girl, who loved pink. But, since I’ve gotten a little older, I’ve fallen in love with yellow. Why yellow? Well, I think it all started the summer of my senior year when I took a trip to Italy. We went to Pompeii and they had the biggest lemons I’ve ever seen in my entire life, lemons the size of a softball, and they had the most delicious smell. So, I suppose I love yellow because it reminds me of the wonderful Italian summer and the smell of fresh lemons that permeates the air there.

  24. 224
    April R. says:

Aqua Blue – not only is it a bright, cheery color, but it reminds me of Caribbean beaches and the beautiful, clear, warm water that goes along with them!

  25. 225
    Brittany N. says:

Chartreuse! I love, love, love this color. It is clean and simple without being too plain. It also pairs well with so many other colors that no one gives it credit for – blues, greens, pinks, neutrals…I could go on and on. Also, chartreuse is at the same time classic and modern, depending on the colors you pair it with: put it with soft pinks and whites and it recalls an English country garden; put it with slate gray and stark white and you have a color palette right out of the latest NYC loft. I really can’t say enough good things about this color!

  26. 226
    patricia A says:

I am obsessed with a specific shade of green that’s a mix between kelly green and turquoise. I don’t know if there’s a name for the exact shade but my collection of clothes, dodads and pictures is starting to become a little ridiculous! It makes me very happy!

  27. 227
    Mandi says:

Turquoise always wins in the end. I was born in New Mexico and the color always brings warm, happy memories to mind! I can’t get away from it.

  28. 228
    amy johnson says:

There’s a very specific light greyish TEAL that I once saw on a blog and emailed the woman for the paint code. It has since been the color of my shop, my bathroom and a room at a friend’s house. I never get sick of it. Come to think of it it’s almost the exact same color as the SUBMIT BUTTON at the bottom of this page.

  29. 229
    Emma says:

    LOVE the robe!

Blue is my favorite…the blue of the ocean is something I will always yearn to be close to. Living in the midwest, our bodies of water are more of a brown, but the blue of the oceans brings a calmness to my mind and my body that can not be duplicated.

  30. 230
    Alisa Wetzel says:

Violet. So comforting, clean and lovely.

  31. 231
    marta says:

Yellow, it always can brighten my day!

  32. 232
    dionne says:

    orange, most definitely!
how can you not be happy when you see orange…well, other than road construction signs/cones…but forget about that, ha!

  33. 233
    darling, says:

the colour you see when your eyes are closed in the bright sun. (because it means you are in the bright sun and right now, i can’t think of anything better!)

  34. 234

its gotta be bright bright goldenrod yellow. i love how totally alive it is. it makes me think of the sun, smiling faces, highlighters & my awkward but fun childhood cheerleading outfit.. where we yelled out encouragement in the mosquito filled summer nights.

  35. 235
    Jodi says:

As I age, my happy color changes. Now I favor puple. It is my kids high school color and my favorite flower color. Purple wild flowers and Foxgloves are in currently in bloom in Seattle.

  36. 236
    Andrea says:

I’d have to say orange – not because it’s my favorite, but because it has so many wonderful memories attached, and becomes a defacto fav. I lived in India for two years, and orange is everywhere there – in the Marigolds, in the sari’s, in the paint on all the walls. it’s such a color of celebration and exaltation. The feeling of orange makes me happy. *smile*

  37. 237
    Debbie says:

I love deep purple. It reminds me of a feeling I had as a child. We all need to keep young at heart.

  38. 238
    Susie says:

I Iove green and turquoise. I always seem to be drawn to those two colors which I have alot of both in my wardrobe. I guess green since it is so much a a part of nature and turquoise calms me and reminds me of the Carribean , Mediterranean and South pacific waters that are so beautiful and appealing and remind me of happy times. I also thinbk of turquoise stones, and the rich heritage of the West and when I lived out their. Since the walls of my parents house are turquoise–it also reminds me of home.

  39. 239
    Rachel says:

Lime (like the fruit, not florescent) green. It’s one of those colors that adds the right pop if done subtly. It always seems to fit in any season, and somehow always seems to shows up in my wardrobe accidentally. It must be color fate.

  40. 240

omg this robe is gorgeous! the color that makes me the happiest is green! because when the fiels and trees and gardens turn green everywhere it means that summer is here along with warm weather, good times, and lots of opportunity to enjoy nature to its fullest. (hence my blogger name lol)

  41. 241
    emilie b says:

My favorite color is green. It’s hopeful and full of promises. It can calm me when I need to be calm down and surprise me when I need a cheer up. It’s such a powerful color, it interacts with me and my emotions.

  42. 242
    hannah says:

“They Call Me Mellow Yellow” Yellow is just the happiest color! Bananas, lemons, the center of daisies, my favorite pair of Loafer Randall sandals. There are just so many happy things that are associated with the vibrant color. But my favorite is that yellow reminds me of summer. I picture a 1970’s vintage photograph of me riding on pail yellow Vespa past the beach (I don’t have a yellow Vespa and I was not alive in the 70s). BUT Just thinking about it all makes me happy…

  43. 243
    kathemc says:

I used to strictly be a cool-color girl, blues and purples all the way. Now I am gravitating toward happier, warmer colors — I’d have to say orange is my fave, though I suddenly find myself increasingly drawn toward hot pinks and fuschias. This all from a woman who’s closet was referred to as ‘the void’ because of all the black inside. :)

  44. 244
    Ashley B. says:

I am obsessed with hot pink right now. I’m helping my sister plan her wedding and hot pink is her accent color. Absolutely every pink accessory I find sticks in my mind. Of course pink is kind of always an obsession for me, I wore hot pink shoes and hot pink crinoline for my wedding!

  45. 245
    Gabriella says:

My favourite colour is surely purple. My room is purple all over, and even my friends bug me with it because when we’re shopping for clothes I always naturally pick the purple ones first. You should see my wardrobe! But I can’t help it, it just makes me happy and optimistic! But recently I’m getting drawn towards bright red too.. it gives you a lot of confidence.

  46. 246

I must admit that my choice of colors change on a daily basis change according to my mood. But…the one color that is consistently spirit lifting for me is turquoise or aqua…similar to the color in the Kimono pictured!

  47. 247
    Britgirl says:

Green without a doubt. Olive green, lime green, grassy green. Its my go to colour of choice!

  48. 248

colours make me happy when they make each other happy
when they entangle and tease and play together
like the colours in the komodo! ;-)
