This is the time of year when I start thinking about what I am going to make for holiday presents for family and friends. The last few years, we have shied away from store-bought presents and always go for something handmade. I started thinking about painting plates for friends with a graphic and thought I would give it a try.
I had a couple other designs going as well but I didn’t photograph them because they weren’t, well…they weren’t photo ready. This is why I have learned it is a good idea to start crafting early and get the duds out of the way.
For this project, I used white plates from the dollar store and paint pens. (The picture shows navy blue and black but I stuck with black for the plate I’m actually showing you.) I just drew a simple design and baked the plate in a low oven for about 20 minutes to set it. Now, to be clear, this is just paint. I cannot guarantee any kind of food safety or durability in the dishwasher. It’s for decoration, folks. Although, I’m thinking about trying this out on mugs with some porcelain paint. I’ll let you know how it goes. 🙂
p.s. What about you? Do you have any holiday gift-giving ideas brewing?
