Since we are dedicating September to focusing on “The Art of Beauty” it only seems fitting to scratch the surface and talk about our skin. Our skin is the one accessory that we always want to shine, yes? But it can also be the source of neglect, frustration, dismay. Now is the time to turn the tables. It is time to focus our energy on what we put on our bodies as well as what we put in it. Seems fitting to introduce you to one of our new favorites in the process.

Maia Singletary discovered the benefits of all natural shea butter and started noticing that the butter used in most skincare products was heavily refined and not at all “natural.” Her research led her to create her own line, Astrida Naturals. Singletary’s products use unrefined shea butter and while also focusing on being aesthetically pleasing. I, for one, notice that I am drawn to branding and packaging and it is so exciting to find a company that realizes how important the details are. After all, if it is beauty we are looking for, it is beauty we want to see. Astrida Naturals carries beauty in the palm of their hand.

Astrida Naturals is giving away two $25 gift certificates to two lucky winners (one each)! To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Tuesday, September 9th.
Please visit Astrida Naturals and tell us: Since our beauty routine is such a personal thing, tell us something about yours that is unique to you.
Start checking the winner’s box on Tuesday, September 16th, to see if you’ve won!

i always wash my face after i brush my teeth, because otherwise if there’s any toothpaste flecks on my skin, it will make me break out.

I always take a moment to breathe in the scent of my lotion as I put it on each morning. The smell just seems to lift me into a better mood 🙂 This week I have been hit with my seasonal allergies, and can’t smell things very well. It’s amazing the difference it is making in my mood!

Well I don’t know if it is unique to just me, but I like to wash my face AND moisturize with just coconut oil.

I’ve used wrinkle cream since I was 25. And I get mad when people note my age by my skin condition 😀

Every day I intentionally do my hair differently than the day before. I don’t use shampoo or conditioner, I normally just rinse my hair with water and comb it out.  If I clean it, I use baking soda and rinse with apple cider vinegar. I love braiding it or twisting it up once it has dried. I never blow dry my hair.

I wash my face with an exfoliating cleanser in the morning and at night. My face is oily and prone to acne in certain spots so I feel it’s necessary to do it twice a day. I also switch between two shampoos every other day to prevent buildup and keep my semi-oily hair in check.

Mine is kind of funny but applicable since we’re talking about awesome products with shea butter in them:) My feet are so tough and dry because I enjoy walking around barefoot, so I put heavy lotion on them at night to try to soften them. However, before I do that I have to wipe each of them with a wet wipe to clean off the day’s dirt. My husband is convinced that my feet are filthy since I’m so often barefoot and knowing I’ve cleaned my feet helps him sleep at night:)

Probably the most unique thing about my beauty routine is the unnatural love affair with my tweezers. 13 years is a long time with the same pair but I love them because they make my eyebrows look fantastic.

One thing in my beauty routine unique to me is a perfume that I had specially blended.  It’s like nothing I’ve ever smelled anywhere else and I kind of love that it is unique.

My indecisiveness influences even my routines. As much as I am starting to long for go-to products, my routine is defined by not being the same. I buy something different almost every time…wanting to try something more natural, something that smells better, something that’s cheaper. I think I’ve finally found a deodorant I’ll stick with (Soapwalla!) and I love my Clarisonic…but everything else is subject to change!

I LOVE finding handmade natural beauty products!  I’m currently using Leahlani skincare, which is made in Hawaii.  I look forward to my relaxation ritual of washing my face and moisturizing because these products smell wonderful.  I like using tooth powder for brushing my teeth instead of toothpaste.   My teeth feel more clean and the powder lasts a lot longer than a tube of paste!  I also think exfoliation is really important, so I use ORG organic mineral peel on my face and body to enable my moisturizers to be more effective!  I’ve never heard of Astrida until now, but everything looks great!!

I’m on a fairly tight budget, so I’ve started making my own dark-circle reducer for eyes: vitamin K for capillaries, licorice extract for brightening, and aloe for something good. I’ve seen some improvement, but that might be placebo at this point!

I don’t have much of a routine, but what I have is changing since I recently discovered I have contact allergies to some fragrances (but not all). I’ve always kept to basic products without much scent, and think I mostly react to fruity scents (from candles, shampoo, etc.). As I try to revamp my routine with unscented or lightly scented items, it’s hard to find a brand that is transparent about labeling or that will even disclose what kinds of fragrances they use in their products for troubleshooting purposes. Your line of products with the clear labeling and fragrances extracted from real ingredients (as opposed to from chemicals) is really appealing to me. I don’t want to give up beautiful products entirely, and wish every company was as forthcoming as yours. Looks like a great line!

I don’t have much of a beauty routine, but I do believe in the power of touch. At night when I lay in bed, I started by giving my face a little massage with just my pointer and middle fingers. I think it gets the blood circulating and just feels relaxing! I then put the heels of my hands over my eyes and just relax into it. I’m not sure if it makes me look better, but it sure makes me feel better 😉

    Lauren P says:

Every morning at the end of my shower when I’m rinsing my hair, I use a (designated ‘face only’) washcloth to gently exfoliate my skin and lips. It’s an all-natural (no soap – the steam helps open my pores) and inexpensive routine to maintain. In the ten years since I started this practice, my skin has always stayed soft and smooth.

I only use what is absolutely necessary and wear makeup only when I have to. I use the most natural, homemade products possible, and it’s amazing how well they work!

Sunscreen :). I wear it all year round. I love introducing the beachy scent of coconut to a harsh Chicago winter.

Something unique to my routines is my mother’s involvement.  I’m 32 – but my mom makes my deodorant and toothpaste, and gives me every essential oil under the sun.  She LOVES to make natural things and so she sends me little packages all the time.  It’s special to me that she’s a part of my routine every morning.  I have RIDICULOUSLY sensitive skin and so I can’t often use many products.  So I’m always trying to find a way to moisturize my skin without inducing little red bumps EVERYWHERE.  I love that my mom is on my team on this one.  🙂

My favourite part of the day is using rose hip oil on my face. I don’t actually know if it does anything much for my skin, but it calms me down and wakes me up.

    Renee A. says:

Well, I would love to win this giveaway because I really don’t have a beauty routine, especially now that I have a 3 month old baby boy that keeps me busy , so my routine is just to wash my face with water. I would love to have some face products as decadent as these so that I can have a face that feels soft, clean & pretty. That would be a great way for me to get some form of pampering for myself since even having time for a bath is difficult these days.

    Sparrow B says:

The most unique thing about my routine is that it is lightening fast. I’ve got it down to five minutes, baby! I have 3 boys at home all day (I’m trying homeschooling this year! Pray for me!!!!) and I don’t have much time for soaking and meditating. And I often end up with facials or body scrubs from bodily fluids or dirt (boys. are. disgusting…), but I love to use products that life me and bring a spot of beauty to the mad dash that is my personal time each day.

    Charlotte D. says:

I sometimes use egg white and oatmeal on my skin.  I put it on for a little while and then pill it off.  I makes my skin feel really soft.  I don’t do this often because I don’t always have the time but when I do it feels great.

    Amie A says:

I’ve worn distinctive thick eyeliner the same way for at least 20 years.   I’ll sometimes leave it on when I wash the rest of my face because I like how it looks when I wake up in the morning.

As a new mom, I have zero routine right now. My showers are 4-minute in-and-out affairs so I can get back to my kid before he gets upset (he doesn’t nap by himself, so this little bit of independence is new, even). On the mornings when my husband can watch him for a bit, I now go ALL OUT. I’m using a face mask I bought maybe 18 months ago and exfolliating my feet and using a lip scrub. These tiny bits of pampering feel so revolutionary now! I love being a mom, but sometimes a gal’s just gotta feel the tingle of a clay mask, right?
