Giveaway :: Bag of Sunshine

Tuesday, June 4, 2013

We’ve been planning an exciting project over here at the BSP and we are so excited to share it with you. We have collaborated with some amazing companies to create a “Bag of Sunshine” to carry with you wherever you go. We have plans to campaign with some of our favorite bloggers to give these bags away to their readers so that we can spread sunshine far and wide. This is where we need your help. While we have some amazing partnerships lined up, we want to know: where would you like to see these bags of sunshine? Do you have any favorite sites you want us to know about?

The bags themselves are a beloved project of ours. Each of these items were chosen thoughtfully, with the hope that you will take time to celebrate the small, great moments in your life. We hope you will take the time adorn yourself, light a candle, nourish your body, send kind thoughts to someone you care about and carry the sunshine on your shoulder. What better way to kick off summer, don’t you think?

We are giving one lucky winner one Bag of Sunshine! The prize includes: a gorgeous piece of jewelry from Friedasophie, a handcrafted candle and decadent lotion bar from Mariposa Home, notecards from Aloha Letterpress, and a limited edition eco-friendly tote bag from The Bright Side Project. To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Tuesday, June 11th. Comments now closed…good luck!
Tell us: what are some of your favorite websites and blogs? Where do you go to find inspiration?
Start checking the winner’s box on Monday, June 17th, to see if you’ve won!

I have about 20 blogs on google reader. Bower Power, young house love, skip to my lou just to name a few. I’m just now learning how to “pin” things. I love all the DIY and re-purposing blogs. I’ve had some good luck with projects. And, of course I love THE BRIGHT SIDE PROJECT!!!

I’m pretty sure I discovered her THROUGH the Bright Side Project, but I just love to marinate in Jules’ writing over at Pancakes and French Fries. Her voice is just so so wonderful and I love all of the subjects she explores.

I really like blogs about homesteading and natural living. Oak Hill Homestead, Fresh Eggs Daily (even though I don’t have chickens), and Small Things are blogs that I check daily. I am also quite addicted to Pinterest, The Hairpin and Offbeat Mama. Looking forward to seeing what others like so I can go check out some new blogs!

I love blogs that honor the arts of writing and photography – the worst thing I know is blogs with poor language or generic Instagram filters. Consequently, my to-go blogs are eclectic:

Jonna Jinton (a Swede living in the northern part of the country in a village of 13 – amazing photography and storytelling!)
My New Roots (no introduction needed for foodies!)
    Chez Larsson
UnderbaraClara (another girl in the north of Sweden – great writing in a superb mix of politics, recycling and cooking)

First on my Bookmark Feed list is The Bright Side Project (‘natch) Several authors including JA Jance, Jon Acuff, Writers who knit: Crazy Aunt Purl, Yarn Harlot, Modeknit/Knitting Heretic, Mason Dixon, Wendy Knits, Knit and Tonic etc. DIYers such as Ana-White, DIY Diva, ….crafters of course cats such as Mean Kitty….
Lately I’ve been turned off by Pinterest … I’ve become burnt out on the over use of the word “cute” and “adorable”.
Plus I have several projects in the works (knitting and writing) that I have to monitor my time in the “Blogosphere”!

I am absolutely in love with Leighelena jewelry out of Austin. I also really love Katie Daisy’s water colors on Etsy. I think she recently partnered and is now offering items other than her prints and notecards. Her work is bright, cheerful, and always makes me smile.

One of my favorite blogs is the “Print & Pattern” blog (http://printpattern.blogspot.com/), which contains a neverending supply of pattern/design/cuteness inspiration. I am always amazed at the diversity of designs that is documented on this blog. I’ve also started keeping up with Trendland (http://trendland.com/), which is a mix of fashion/art/culture/design trends; they feature some great contemporary artists.

I usually visit Pinterest for inspiration, but I try to actually visit the website/blog of where that pin is from, rather than just collecting the pin itself.

    For Crafty fun:
I *love* 645 workshop by the crafty cpa.  She updates her blog (http://craftycpa.blogspot.com/) once in awhile with tutorials, projects or pictures, but her Etsy page (http://www.etsy.com/shop/645workshop) is updated all the time with awesome gifts.
I also love Craftaholics Anonymous (http://www.craftaholicsanonymous.net/) and Winnie’s Inky Fingers (http://winniesinkyfingers.blogspot.com/).

Non crafty blogs I love are Untypically Jia (http://www.untypicallyjia.com/) and Aisha Saeed (http://www.aishasaeed.com/).

And the Trifecta Writing Challenge is my go-to for weekly inspiration in the form of creative writing (http://www.trifectawritingchallenge.com/)

For home projects I read: Young House Love.  For design inspiration: Little Blue Deer,  That Inspirational Girl, Zsa Zsa Bellagio, Greige, My Scandinavian Home. Topical blogs I like to read: Apron Thrift Girl, MODG blog, The Beauty Department, Blogging Dangerously, Skinnytaste, …love Maegan, The Write Practice, Raising Colorado. Also, I follow two tumblr accounts: browndresswithwhitedots, fateinmycoffee.  Plus my husband and I LOVE: theChive, and we look at it together on the laptop before going to sleep instead of watching television (which we don’t have) when we want to be entertained.  I think maybe the blogs: A Cup of Jo, Decor8, A Beautiful Mess, Design*Sponge  are all very nice, and I check them out regularly, but not everyday like the ones I mentioned already, and might be good places for The Bright Side to share sunshine!

My most visited and most loved blog is PostSecret.com. For the past six years I have never missed a Sunday post. Seeing the secrets that people are too afraid or embarrassed to say out loud has truly made me realize that we are never alone – that there are people the feel the exact same way as us.

The Bright Side Project has also been creeping up there – being my morning before-work activity with green tea. It’s a lovely morning when this happens.

My number one is the Bright Side Project, obviously, but I would also add to those:
Bring Joy (http://bring-joy.com/) and Deja Vu (http://dejavuearley.blogspot.com/) and then a plethora of food blogs, including Sprouted Kitchen, My New Roots, Honey and Jam, and Roost.

I like food gawker and craft gawker for deciding what to make. Patagonia for beautiful places and adventure inspiration. Fitness/running blogs like Hungry Runner Girl and Fitnessista when I need a boost to make some exercise happen! And for anything else there’s Pinterest.

Naturally, I have a whole list of blogs I frequently delve into, but some of my favorites are the ones that highlight the beauty in simplicity – Small Measure is one of my favorites. She’s Ashley English has a series of fantastic books and has a running guest post on design sponge, but her blog is so humble and loving…. I actually feel like I’m in her living room sipping on a elderflower tea… waiting for dishes with edible flowers to pop out of the oven. No one has made me want to flee to a cabin in the woods more than she has! On a completely different note, I draw inspiration from the plus-model world via the gorgeous Tess Munster and Fuller Figure Fuller Bust. That way I can get my “humble living” fix sprinkled in with a bit of plus-sized glamour and female empowerment!

Different blogs offer so much inspiration that I created a Google doc filled with links. Here are my absolute favorites:
DIY: Say Yes to Hoboken / Creature Comforts / Cotton and Curls
Artists and their art: Shanna Murray / Herriott Grace / Rebecca Green / The Black Apple / Oh My Cavalier
Simple prettiness: Modern Hepburn / Oh the Lovely Things / Local Milk
Window to the world: ExPress-O / Cup of Jo
And, of course, who can be inspired without laughter? The author of Hyperbole and a Half illustrates the hilarious stories of her youth and young adulthood. Plus, she honestly and openly shares her battle with depression.
Sorry to list so many, but with a world filled with creative, kind, and inspiring women, how could I not?

i love pinterest, that’s the site that inspires me to create because of all the amazing pins out there from so many creative people! it challenges me to do things i wouldn’t have thought of being able to pick up on my own, for starters i refreshed my crochet basics and just mastered knitting and purling through a combination of pins and youtube videos (in my current summer holiday from uni) so i can’t help feeling a little proud of myself :> i have also slowly started with my recipe pins and running pins!

also, i love websites that make me laugh. it makes me feel slightly out of place to say this (because so many people have shared amazing blogs of all these refreshing, funny and creative people in food/craft/lifestyle) but i love reading/watching improveverywhere.com! they are also extremely creative people who come together to bring joy to random people in new york through their performances/pranks. it never fails to bring a smile to my face whenever i watch one of their videos/read one of their agent reports! 😀

What a wonderful and fun idea ladies! These would make such great gifts! I love so many blogs but I think these fit really well with Delightfully Tacky, Beautiful A Mess and Sidewalk Ready. I could also see Ruche or Modcloth carrying them. Best of luck with this happy new adventure.

    My favorite blog is thewinnebagodiaries!
It’s about two of my friends (hippies) who sold their home and moved into a Winnebago to start their careers as candle makers! Their blog shows the process of renovating   their Winnebago into a lovely home, as well as making candles, and adventures to waterfalls, forests, deserts and much more. The wildlife photography is also amazing!
I also like a blog by bloodmilk, an etsy shoppe that sells handmade silver jewels. A bit darker, yet so inspirational!
