Recently, while browsing a mass market shop that sells home goods, I found a throw pillow I loved and was so close to purchasing it. Why did I decide against it? Because I realized this pillow was produced in a bold factory with very little human interaction. That’s the problem with mass produced goods; they feel a bit sterile. Rather, I find that I am drawn to objects that have a sense of the person who made them. I find that artistic expression is much more beautiful than an impersonal mass-produced concept. Not to say all of the big box stores are evil or unappealing. But it’s nice to have options.
