Waking up! Mostly because it starts with my 3 pups. Mishka, my limitless fox dog, curls up on the bed next to me with her head on the pillow and patiently waits for my eyes to open. Zoe, my beagle mix, isn’t as patient. My day begins being gently pulled from my sleep by her gravely demands (something not quite bark and not quite growl) that she be let out and fed. This gets Mr. Dude, the silly senior corgi, excited and he starts bouncing around the room. It’s a bright way to start the day, filled with happy smiling canine faces.

The most fulfilling part of my (almost) daily routine is going outside in the mornings and harvesting all the ripe vegetables ready to be picked. When I cook, I love knowing I grew what I’m eating from seed to table.

I put my 3 year old to bed with a story, a song and a snuggle and then I nurse my little one to sleep. I feel like their bedtime is so rewarding for me because it is so full of love but I REALLY like those first minutes of peace when they are both asleep.

My daily run is both the most fulfilling and the most dreaded part of my day. I yearn to be one of those people who truly feel alive when they exercise, but I’m just not. It is an effort every time I put on my sneakers and start running. But I am so proud of myself every time I do it, that I have just enough motivation to go out again tomorrow.

oddly, the most fulfilling part of my day has become brushing the cat. she has a double coat and it’s been causing her problems in the heat. so her daily brushing allows me to do something good for her that she (mostly) enjoys and i get to spend some quiet time with a sweet kitty!

Playing the piano.  I played when I was younger and stopped once I got to college, but picked it up again last year.  When I sit down and play I go somewhere new, free of words, and worry.  Time stops. I’m full and I feel I am not alone.  I can’t describe it.  I become free.  Thank. God. for. music.

(I should also add:  the time I play piano is when my daughter is falling asleep.  So it’s a gift I get to share with her too.  Thank. God. for. babies. (!))

The view from underwater at the pool as my arm slips below the surface and bubbles bubble up from my fingertips from the air trapped under my fingernail. I swim laps in the morning Its a great way to start my day, I feel good about getting myself up and out of bed to start the day on a positive note, and I just love the fantasy of being in water and seeing an entirely new world under the surface. I love this reflective start to my day when I can swim, dream and prepare.

I’ve recently discovered Trader Joe’s Spicy Chai Tea Latte mix. It has been a great new and fulfulling addition to my daily routine to take a moment to relax and smell the sweet cinammon. I asked for a milk frother for Mother’s Day and just that little extra indulgence makes me so happy!

It depends on the day because I don’t have much of a daily routine, but the most fulfilling moments could include a long run, sitting down to dinner with my husband, opening a bottle of wine, or taking the time to play some music.

The most fulfilling part is when both of my daughters , one who is home from university, the other who is going in the fall remember to come in and kiss me goodnight. They do it even if I am sleeping and it means the world to me. ( my husband does it too when he comes to bed)

Right now I have a 12 week old little dude, so “routine” is not really an applicable term for our situation, since things change daily. He’s the kind of baby who doesn’t want to nap by himself, so we’re holding him or he’s in a carrier most of the day. Napping is such a challenge for him, but I’ve learned to embrace his needs and so at least twice a day, I’m loading him into one of our carriers (my favorite right now is a borrowed Babyhawk mei tai) and swinging on our porch swing until he falls asleep. When I feel his heavy head resting against my chest and hear his gentle snores, I feel like I won the lottery and am super proud of myself for getting him some solid napping time. (His other bits of daytime sleep are spent lying across my lap on a nursing pillow, which is sweet in its own right, too.)

During the academic year, office hours are the most fulfilling time of day for me. I love talking to students, waiting for them to come up with a brilliant insight, or seeing the gleam in their eyes when they get excited about something; even having successfully explained a complex idea or problem is worth it.

Daily, however, I enjoy the ritual of making coffee in a French press. It’s a great trade-off: if I want to be awake and energized for the day, I have to spend time quietly preparing and waiting at the start of it.

First of all, this jewelry is so pretty… loved browsing the Etsy site. I also loved reading everyone’s comments and am getting ideas for how to add more fulfilling moments to my day. For me, I’d say the most fulfilling part of my day is walking to and from work. It’s a little over 20 minutes each way. In the morning, it helps me wake up and get my brain going, and in the evening, it helps me wind down. Plus I save on a metro card. 🙂

The most fulfilling part of my day is when I’m playing with my daughter or showing/teaching her something new.  I just love watching her face light up with glee and seeing her cheeky smile 🙂 Or when she kisses/open mouth drools on my face…that’s just the best thing ever!

Also to KATE B.: I want to say I feel your pain! Trust me, it will get better!  My daughter is almost 9 months, and is now sleeping in her crib for naps and night.  I had to hold her for naps for the longest time, and we love baby carriers too! Instead of seeing it as a hinderance, I tried to embrace it and enjoy that time as well 🙂

Great question. My husband just recently captured my favorite part of my day. After lunch, my three boys (all under 5) have reading time. We sit on the couch and I have my baby on my lap, my 5 year old by my side, and my 3 year old sits on my shoulders. It is an absolute pile of limbs and books. I love it. I love using crazy voices and getting them to giggle. I love teaching them what words mean, and I love having them ask me questions in their sweet little voices. It’s my happy time.

my favourite part of the day is when i shower at the end of the day! i love the feeling of the hot water running over me, especially when you have all those funky showerheads where you can change up the speed/pressure of the water flow to sort-of-massage yourself; it just feels like the stress and the aches are washed away. shower time is me time, and i can spend a long time inside just talking to God or having shower karaoke with no audience but myself, and shower acoustics are always the best so i sound awesome all the time (or maybe it’s just the sound of the water drowning my voice out haha!). and i come out smelling awesome and feeling squeaky clean. i feel like i can only truly rest, relax and reflect over the day after i shower because it helps to clear my mind of my concerns so i can rest well and wake up refreshed the following day.

My favorite part of my routine is walking into my kitchen and having my 3 year old cousin run up to me and say good morning and giving me a morning kiss. I haven’t been a part of her life before and now I am and I couldn’t be happier.
