When it comes to “Abundance” I must admit that there is no shortage of photos in my life. Whether it be on my phone, with my SLR, or a tiny point and shoot camera, I have enough images to fill a room of photo albums. Thing is, I generally keep them stored digitally. I can’t remember the last time I actually compiled a tangible photo album. We have artwork strategically placed throughout the house but no photos. I have plans, of course, for a family wall of photos and yet…nothing has happened. This month, in honor of “Abundance” I plan on taking some favorite photos and actually FRAMING them. As in, to put on display.

Craftbelly Frames & Mirrors is the perfect way to start. Lizzie Greco creates gorgeous frames out of wood and designer paper that elevate your photos from simple displays to absolute works of art. Each piece is, in and of itself, worthy of a place in your home and they would make the absolute perfect gift for the holidays. (Just sayin’.) This Gold and Cream number is on my wishlist, for sure. Soon, my abundance of photos might just spill over into an abundance of gorgeous frames. Not a bad spillover, wouldn’t you agree?

Craftbelly is giving away three 5 x 7 Lotus Frames to three lucky winners (one each!) To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Tuesday, November 13th. Comments now closed…good luck!

What is the story behind your favorite photo?

Start checking the winner’s box on Monday, November 19th, to see if you’ve won!

I prefer dandelions over daisies. Actually, I don’t like daisies. Their petals remind me of broken relationships. Petals plucked from the capitulum, one after another. “He loves you, he loves you not.” The discarded petals flutter to the ground, left with no further thought.

My favorite photo prominently features a daisy, with all petals intact.  A bee hidden in the center, like Waldo in a sea of red and white stripes, pollinating.  The photo a reminder, the daisy an anecdote. It doesn’t always end with not.

Props to the photographer, Sam Anderson.

my favorite photo hangs by my desk. it is of me and my BFF, but you wouldn’t know it. the image is completely out of focus as it was taken by my 6 year old nephew. i love it because i know who is in the picture, but not every one else done. also, i really don’t like having my picture taken, so it’s like being incognito or something.

It’s of my husband and I’s first vacation together. Newlywed and poor, we’re eating peanut butter and honey sandwiches in a park in charleston, SC and saving up our money for a nice dinner. We’re smiling, laughing, and flirting.

My favorite photo is of me and my three sisters! it was taken in our favorite place, Chicago. We all are such unique women, and you can tell in this particular photo. Yet, regardless of our different personalities and looks, it’s also obvious that we are family and love each other!

My favorite photo at the moment is one my bf took of me on a recent hike. It reminds me of the adventures we take together and how much fun we have.

My dad when he’s much younger, sporting the Tom Selleck mustache, me clasped to his side at 5 years old, wearing the bulkiest little mermaid life vest. He looks very much less like a creeper now but still my favorite man in the world. 20 years later I still hope to find another little mermaid life vest.

My favorite photo is one with my husband, me, and our brand new baby boy in the hospital. Our son is 2 years old now, but thinking back to those first few days with him still amazes me. How did we get through all the emotions and all the new things to learn? Crazy. And beautiful.

Taken on a sweltering, sunny, summer day, 2001, of my 3 yr old son, my 4 month old son, and my 27 yr old husband. The three of them are all in a row (the baby in my husband’s arm) their bare chests showing over the edge of the jacuzzi–the “little swimming pool”– huge smiles on all their faces and my mom’s umbrella in my husband’s other hand shading them from the sun. We had gone over to my parents to cool off in their air conditioning and we all decided to take the boys in the pool to cool off, a first for the baby (he LOVED it, they both have been water lovers their whole lives).  It had been so hot that day we could hear the sap crackling in the redwood trees just beyond the grassy area by the pool! My mom snapped the picture of the boys while my dad and I were floating around in the big pool. All six of us were swimming and playing in the water.  Love the memories!!

One of my favorite photos is a picture of my brother and I on a cruise. We’ve always been very close, and in it I have my head on his shoulder. Nobody really knows that he was really kind of holding me up because I had sun poisioning and was so drained that I barely had energy to stand. Most people just look at the picture and think awww…how sweet!

My favorite photo is of my 3 year old daughter then , while hiking on the Appalachian Trail, we were  so excited to get to the top of the summit @Mt. Greylock and I have to admit we drove up most of the way;)… as my husband wasn’t up for hours of hiking – I wanted so much to take some beautiful pictures- and wanted everything to be just perfect- but my daughter had different plans and didn’t want to just stay still, it was sooo windy- I was frizzing, but the scenery was just stunning!!!!- not to be heart broken I just took few fast pixc- my fave is of my daughter with her hair blown every direction ( she has long, curly hair) but you can see a pure joy in her face, and nature in the background!!! It instantly make me smile- when I have a gloomy day;)

A photo of my brother and I as young kids… me planting a theatrical smooch on his cheek for the photo, him cringing (cooties for sure), both of us laughing. It always brings me sweet memories of the day and our family.

My favorite photo is of my best friend and I after a night out. We were walking up to her apartment with a  hobby photographer friend and something was said that made us laugh so hard we stopped walking.  Our friend snapped a picture of us doubled over, leaning on each other laughing. The joy we were feeling is so apparent that I smile every time I look at it.

Two years ago to celebrate my moms birthday we rented a pontoon boat and went out on the lake for the day. My mom, father-in-law, sister, brother-in-law, husband, nephew, grandmother and I felt the sun on our faces and the wind on our backs. We laughed, we talked, we had snacks and we spent the day together.
My grandmother happened to be wearing a bright red tank top. She loves the color red more than anyone I have ever known, and red is her color. Full of passion and life. While on the boat she was sitting in the corner with her arms stretched out on the rails to each side and just had this sneaky little smile and a sparkle in her eye. I quickly snapped a photo and the photo is the perfect moment frozen in time.
She passed away a few months ago, but that photo will help me to always remember her smile, her sparkle and her love.

I have this picture of my mother (who passed away when I was 16) and my grandmother sitting on a porch swing early morning in their pajamas an they are laughing. You can tell they had no idea someone was taking the picture. To me this picture means so much to me, it is both of the women that mean the most to me. They are so beautiful and simple in this photo!

I have this photo of myself and my dad, we were on a dinner cruise on Lake Michigan, and we’re laughing. The thing is that it’s hard to catch my dad laughing, or even smiling in a photo, he always gets very serious when you pull a camera out. I had the camera in my hand, ready to attempt a self- portrait of us, and I guess he didn’t know what I was up to, because I caught a wonderfully candid moment of the two of us together.

I have a photo of my two sisters and I when we were at a Christmas party as kids. I was 6 and my sisters were 2 and 4. It was a Christmas tradition for us and I love that we all have the biggest smiles on our faces. It makes me smile every time I look at it- which is often since I have it on display in a frame in my family room.

One of my favorite photos is of me and my dad napping on the couch when I was about 3. I’m totally passed out on his chest and the sun from the window is streaming across our faces and to me it depicts perfect, innocent contentment.

I have so many photos that are dear to me, but recently my little family attempted a Christmas card photo shoot. We picked an extremely windy day and the photos are SO terrible they are awesome. My favorite has my daughters dress being blown up, my sons fine, baby hair standing straight up, my other son screaming in sheer delight at the chaos, and two parents trying to maintain their hair as well as their composure. I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time. I’m thinking of making a collage of outtakes for our Christmas card. It will be good for a laugh.

My favorite photo is of me and one of my cousins when we were toddlers. He’s the one cousin that I ended up  growing apart from (I blame it to Georaphy!). I love the photo because it reminds me of being a child, going to the grandparents’ house every weekend with the other cousins, rolling on grass, without worry or care.

My favourite photo is one I took of my little brother on a film camera. He had just gotten his first tatoo – I took one where he was flexing and looking “cool”, and I quickly took another where he is glancing downwards and the light was hitting the side of his face. The second one reminds me of how young and vulnerable he is, and also how precious he is to me. I love the contrast of the two photos.
