Giveaway :: Cutting Edge Stencils

Thursday, April 12, 2012

There is nothing a fresh coat of paint won’t cure. This holds true in both a metaphorical and literal sense. Sometimes it takes a new shade to bring out the best in each of us. Sometimes it takes a new hue altogether. Regardless, we here at the BSP would be remiss if we didn’t offer up a practical way to change your environment to truly honor the sentiment that “We Love Hue.” Now, we wouldn’t dare tell you what color to paint your house (although I do prefer greys, myself. Just sayin’.) We do, however, have a little trick up our sleeve to help you bring out that extra little something.

We’ve all seen those fancy wallpaper rolls that showcase intricate designs and bold patterns. True, they are a lovely way to add an element of design in our homes. But for those of us who like the idea of wallpaper but much prefer a can of paint, stencils are the way to go. Cutting Edge Stencils is a purveyor of the finest in design and quality. Their wall stencils are reusable, cost-effective and easy to use. Now you can have the walls you see gracing the pages of your favorite design magazines and you have the added bonus of taking all the credit! I’m especially fond of the Marrakech Trellis Allover Stencil (which would look amazing in my dining room.) I’m also loving the Rabat Craft Stencil and am having a hard time deciding if I should use it for throw pillows or curtains. Perhaps both. The passion behind the team at Cutting Edge Stencils is starting to rub off on me!

Cutting Edge Stencils is giving away one $50 gift certificate to one lucky reader. To enter to win, please answer the following question by Thursday, April 19th. Comments now closed…good luck!

The dining room. It’s not only the place where we eat at least 2 meals as a family (even the cat and dog sit at our feet), but where we share stories, talk about our days, plan vacations and weekends, and play board games.  The dining room keeps us together and I am always grateful at the end of the day when we are eating dinner, laughing, talking, and enjoying each other’s company.

I have roommates so my favorite room is the kitchen. It’s the one room where you’re most likely to run into someone and strike a conversation. Shared drinks, laughs, and good cooking all happen there.

My all-time favorite room in my home is my bedroom. We built a blanket fortress around the bed in the middle of the room last summer, but we’ve never taken it down because it’s so relaxing. It’s all happiness in the blanket fortress, a little getaway. We made it out of pretty floral vintage sheets that we found here and there. It’s bright and summery and it makes us very happy. <3

Long story, bear with me (bare or bear- I never know which one it is)..

My grandma passed away 2 months ago, leaving my 88yr old grandad with the big house they own. Literally made of stone and super duper cold, a massive vege garden, fire, big lawn etc… But it’s falling apart from the quakes here (Christchurch).

    Last week grandad passed away.

As utterly heartbreaking as it is; their property is in the “zone” of the school I attended. My brother went too, and my aunties and dad… So my dad is insisting that my wee girl goes there too… But after the quakes, the rent around our city has gone up a LOT so I can’t afford to move anywhere near the school zone.

Dad has decided to buy the land and knock down the house (its falling down anyway) and to build a wee place as an investment property- eventually selling it- but until then, me and my girl would live in it.

I keep getting these flashes in my head of a yellow hallway, with the usual “Fendalton Afternoon Sun” floating in the windows, a deck and the grass I have played on for 21 years.

It’s going to take years to happen but for now, it’s my dream home in my head and my favourite room would have to be the hallway that I picture everytime I think about it.

I’ve seen these stencils before and thought how fab they would look (and I LOVE DIY stuff!) but never been able to do it since I’m renting- I’m sure one day in the near future dad would love to have me help him decorate with these!

My kitchen. It’s the only place in the world where you can whip up a cake while watching squirrels chase each other up and down a tree and hearing my husband play his gooseneck guitar at the same time.

I have been sitting herefor a few minutes trying to decide which room to pick as my fav. I cant. . . I can’t narrow it down to just one. So how about three?

The kids playroom. I always sneak peeks and just stare in awe as my kids create in this room. The playroom is not no ordinally room. It is magic. Sometimes the room is a submarine under water, or a world famous art musuem, at other times it can be a ballet studio. They inspire me in this room. I
can almost see what they see. Oy to be a kid

My bedroom. If I need to escape, I curl up on my favorite chair and read a book, if anyone is sick, we bundle up in our bed for comfort, we have family movie night in our bed sometimes as well, which are my favorite. The room also has a special place for eveything my husband and I hold dear to our hearts.

The Kitchen. My kitchen. This is the one room that I can call my own. My husband and kids help cook, yes, but I am in their the most. I decorated in with the vintage charm I oh so love and left it as open and welcoming as possible. Early in the morning when the sun is just breaking through the window, is uplifting.

Kitchen! I love being able to pour myself a glass of wine and get cooking something new, it’s very rewarding (especially since I make my boyfriend do the dishes afterwards!)

My sons bedroom is my absolute favorite! It has grassy green walls and bright rainbow colors everywhere. We live in Alaska where we get very little sunlight in the winter and it is often too cold to go outside with a baby. I try to make his room as cheery as possible!

I like my garage b/c that’s where I create my artwork! We transformed half of the it, the part that has windows, into a small studio space. I can paint, cut paper for bookbinding, and work on clay projects.

My favorite room is my one year-old’s room. It is the only room in our rented house that has any paint- it took a lot of convincing for my husband & the landlord to let me paint it, but I knew I wanted a fun wall in his nursery. He now has big navy and white stripes all the way up the main wall and it makes me so happy 🙂

The living room. Lots of wood trim and charm, working fireplace, giant bay windows with a big tree out front that changes colors and the view as the seasons pass.

The kitchen! I de-stress and bake my worries away after a long day of hard work. The reward is savoring every bite of whatever baked good I made.

My husband and I just bought a house after a 9 month short sale nightmare. We’ve slowly started to do little things to the house to make it ours: paint, tile, the perfect rug, new switch plates. As we finish each room, it becomes my favorite because it becomes a little more ours.

I don’t know yet! We bought a house this past fall, got a great deal on it, but it was a blank canvas when we moved in. I’m slowly adding personality, but it seems like a never ending project. I think I will love the kitchen when it’s done, we have new cabinets on the way and a demo date with the contractor set….having a really great kitchen can be such a blessing, I can’t wait!

My favourite room is my open plan dining/loungeroom.  We moved here a few months ago and I’ve never had open plan before, but I love that I can be doing work or craft at the table, my 18 month old can be playing with his toys around me, we can take refuge on the couch and we can watch the world go by out the window.  I just need to decorate it to make it truly mine!

I’m going to venture outside on this one. My favorite “room” is the gazebo we just put in the backyard. I can enjoy the fresh air with a cup of coffee while sitting in my Adirondack chair in the morning or relax in the hammock in the afternoon. Ah – Bliss! 🙂
