{shop :: Facebook :: Twitter}

This month-long study in how to “Lean into the Fall” has brought with it an unexpected side effect: motivation. All of this talk about how to relax into the transitions and enjoy the process has started a slow fire under the skin to bring a bit of this slow mindfulness into the fray. How about we start by bringing more beauty into our daily lives and we celebrate the small things as we tackle the big ones? While this might sound hard to achieve, it is actually quite simple. One way is by honoring our accessories.

Jane Janiger, a fashion and textile designer turned costume designer, created E64ST as a way to bring beauty and luxuriousness to the everyday. From laptop cases to tablet covers, E64ST adds a sense of luxe to the devices we use in our daily existence. I, for one, know that I am far too quick to throw my Kindle in my tote bag without any kind of protection and yet…I can’t seem to find anything, you know, good enough. This Westside Envelope, however? In this day and age, when we live our lives with portability, why not add beauty to the mix? Let E64ST turn your devices into fashion. You deserve it.

E64St is giving away one Soho iPad Clutch in Green Vibrant Wake to one lucky winner! To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Thursday, November 7th. Comments now closed…good luck!

    despite not being much of a gardener or housekeeper, i find that having flowers in my kitchen makes my day measurably brighter. when i walk in there, fresh from the shower and grumbling about having to drive to work, seeing a few roses from the yard or a lovely big bouquet that was a gif brightens me right up.

    Okay, I love reading people’s answers to this. Great question! (I audibly responded to the daughter tickling one! That IS beautiful to me!)

    I’m a writing teacher and one of the ways I think about adding beauty is adding it in the classroom. For example, when my students come into class, I always play music (from my iPad!) and they get 5 -10 minutes to free write. It’s become this moment of relaxing, where we all get ready to be together, and take a deep breath. I love it. I get to read some really BEAUTIFUL things from my students and I try to make my room and my attitude as beautiful as possible so they can write beautiful things and think about making their futures beautiful too.

    With two wild boys as my constant companions (3 when my husband gets home) (do cats get wild or do your five rescues just glide elegantly through the house all day? I’m going to go with that image….), I find that I have to do two things to maintain beauty in my life. The first is that I have to do the little things to keep my house clean. When my house is in order, I can concentrate on spending time with my boys and getting lost in the chaos of their rough-housing and play. The second thing I need is to have beautiful words. My boys talk all day long, and they say some pretty hilarious stuff, but I have to take a few minutes everyday to read some poetry or part of my current novel to reconnect with language on a deeper level.

    I try to always add a splash of color to my outfit — whether its a brightly colored top, or shoes, a purse scarf or my favorite lipstick — the pop of color always gets a compliment.

    I like to have fresh flowers or living plants around me, no matter where I am. For a while I was doing a lot of writing in a coffee shop, and I brought a tiny cactus with me every day – after a while, the barista started serving the cactus a single shot of espresso in a tiny, tiny mug. 🙂

    Being mindful and present allows us to be open to beauty at so many levels. I strive for that every day. But on a different level, I also try to put on or use something handmade every day. Whether it’s made by friends or family, or from someone I don’t always know, say from an art fair, Etsy, or an indie shop, I get a sense of gratitude and feel a connection in addition to enjoying the beautiful object at hand. That to me is beauty layered upon beauty!

    Life doesn’t always deal us “the privilege” card and one simple way to let go of negativity and bring in beauty is to be grateful for anything, even the most trivial thing and to take a deep breath and think about how good it makes us feel and smile.

    intentionally stopping to really look and think about how the day is beautiful helps me to see the beauty that’s already day. when i’m hanging out the laundry to dry in the sun, i love to stop and just admire how blue the sky is, how lovely the birdsong is etc. if we look hard enough, the beauty’s already there 🙂
