There is something so magical about receiving a handwritten note, don’t you think? This is a truth I have always held close to my heart. In this day and age of email and text messages it is sometimes easy to forget that taking actual pen to paper and writing a tangible note is sometimes more meaningful than anything technology can create. Part of the allure is the variety of options available when it comes to notecards and stationary. Personally, I think it’s a great idea to have a stash of curated notecards to pull from for every occasion. I tend to hoard notecards and stationary from artists I love so that I am always prepared. Taking a look at my card box is a study in how much We Love Hue!

Emily Isabella is yet another artist to add to my arsenal. Making a name for herself with her gorgeously nostalgic illustrations, Emily Isabella creates artwork that speaks to that place in our hearts where we smile effortlessly. The Scenic Heart notecard is exactly the sort I look for when I want to send a little love letter to someone special. Aside from notecards, Emily Isabella also offers fantastic prints of her artwork.  The Eat Well, Live Well print is perhaps one of the happiest pieces I have seen in ages and deserves a spot right by the kitchen window. Magical, whimsical, and perfectly adorable.

Emily Isabella is giving away one Yay Day Box Set of notecards and one Puppet Love Print to one lucky winner! To enter to win, please answer the following question by Wednesday, May 2nd. Comments now closed…good luck!

Do love post cards count? If they’re big, for no reason and filled with loving things to a friend? If so, I sent one just last month. Which means it’s about time to do it again!

The last time I wrote a love letter was last week, and I left it on my roommate’s pillow before I left town for a weekend trip. She was having a particularly rough week, and as a little pick-me-up I made her a homemade popup card (with a heart that pops out) and some words of encouragement. The love letter accompanied a bag of her favorite candies too. When I got back from my trip she gave me a hug and thanked me for the little surprise. A little thoughtfulness can really go a long way!

The last person I wrote a love letter to was my daughter. She recently received a kit for making message in a bottle necklaces, and I had the honor of creating them with her. After the fun of stringing our beads we hid out in our respective bedrooms and wrote secret love notes to one another before exchanging necklaces. I may not have much in the way of romance these days, but those little love notes that we gave and received filled my heart to the brim!

In February, I sent a little love letter to a 3yo angel in South Africa. She is the daughter of a friend and only a week younger than my boy. I love this mother-daughter team like they were my own flesh and blood and I wish they lived closer. The best part of this crazy relationship? We’ve never ever met! My friend is an online friend and I feel as close to her and her daughter as if they were here next door. Cross-continental birthday love letters sent by snail mail are just one way of saying how special they are!

The last time I wrote a love letter was yesterday. It was to my boyfriend who is studying medicine on the island of Grenada. We have been together for 2 years and some change and almost 50% of the time has been long distance romance mostly via love letters. For holiday, right before he first left for studies, I gave him some writing paper, an ink pen a wax stamp and some wax. We have written over 75 letters to each other and each one we sign and stamp on the outside with melted wax and our signature stamp. The letter I wrote yesterday was a special one because my great aunt just passed and I was writing to thank Michael (my bf) for being such a support near or far. I used a stamp set to mark the outside, put some flower pedals in the inside and then of course sealed the outside with wax and our signature stamp.  There is something about writing and receiving love letters in the mail that brightens up your day/week/month!! In this crazy fast paced world it’s a reminder of how things use to be and still should be: slow and worth waiting for.  I LOVE love letters :).

This probably isn’t exactly what you were looking for, but I write a love letter to each baby that is born into my family. I let them know about some of the things that I’m going to do with them as the get older – trips to Paris, shopping for a wedding dress, first Red Sox game. I tell the baby how and why I love their parents and how they came to be a part of my life. I let the baby know that I will always be there for them in a way that’s different from their parents and that they can always count on me. I send a similar letter for their first birthday and tell them a few things that may have happened to them since they were born. Most recently, my college roommate’s daughter had her first birthday and I wrote her a letter. I also wrote to my friend, letting her know that I would always be there for her daughter.

I wrote a love letter for one of my girlfriends yesterday. Three of us are very close, and this week I’m leaving the city I live in to move with my boyfriend across the world. Her life has been shook up, we’ve graduated uni, many of us are splitting up, and she’s got her first ‘grown up job’. I wrote to let her know that I love her to the moon and back, and that I’m never gone forever. I find it hard to imagine making a friend as dear as her after I move so it was bittersweet!

I think there are different types of love letters…the ones you write to your boyfriend/husband…the ones you write to your children…But, the last one I wrote was to my dad before he passed away… Sharing with him my love..and what an honor it was being his daughter..It was by far the most “raw” love letter I have written…as I knew that it would be one of the last times he would be able to read anything written. By the time I was able to be by his side…the letter had been read, and was placed next to him. Within a few hours of me being there with him my daddy  passed away with my love letter by his side.

To my boyfriend when he biked from Idaho to Minnesota for a Geology Conference! I knew that he’d be on the road for a full two weeks, so I decorated and wrote him a love note, congratulating him on his biking accomplishment and wishing him good luck on his next adventure – hoping to bring him so smiles and remind him of home!
