{please visit Erin Miller Arnold Fine Art & Textile Design here}

I have always thought that the perfect time for a quick weekend getaway is right between that time when summer ends and fall begins. Think about it. Everyone is back to their daily grind yet the long nights aren’t quite over and the transition from a relaxing and fun filled summer into the holiday season is enough to make anyone want to escape. How about letting your “Endless Summer” become the perfect excuse for squeezing in that last little weekend away? (Just a quick one, I promise.) And I’m here to help you pack.

Erin Miller Arnold creates gorgeous bags (not to mention some fabulous hand painted scarves and fine art) that will become absolute staples in your repertoire. Each piece is screenprinted, block printed and/or painted by Arnold and the chic simplicity of the patterns are kinetic and invigorating. This set of three gray screenprinted bags is just screaming for a weekend trip to somewhere exotic (I’ll let you define “exotic” so, really, anywhere goes.) I know that my need to hold onto this “Endless Summer” fits perfectly between the canvas of these three bags. I’ll be sure to send a postcard.

Erin Miller Arnold Fine Art & Textile Design is giving away one Orange Screenprinted Cosmetic Bag to one lucky winner! To enter to win, please answer the following question by Thursday, September 20th. Comments now closed…good luck!

    My husband and I went to Portland, Oregon. We spent our days wandering the streets trying out various food carts and perusing local artists. We even got to spend a day at the famed Farmers Market where artists of all trades were available to meet and purchase from. At night we snuggled in at our hotel room and spent time together without having to worry about schedules, Just the two of us, and an entire week with nothing planned 🙂

    The last vacation we took (that wasn’t to visit family) was almost two years ago, when we had a phenomenal 10-day trip to Mexico City. We ate amazing food, visited the pyramids at Teotihuacan, spent an entire day at the Museo Nacional de Antropologia (and visited countless other museums and historical sites). There is SO much to see, and best of all, it is so affordable!

    My husband and I just drove across the country from Columbus Ohio to Seattle Washington. We drove out because we needed to rehome our dog for various reasons and there was a program on the West Coast that seemed like it’d be a good fit for him. Conservation Canines is a program that takes hyper, ball-focused dogs that don’t do well in a traditional family environment and trains them to search for scat, to track wildlife populations. Even though there was a chance they wouldn’t be able to take him, we drove 4 days across this beautiful country (the first time either of us had driven out West like that) to get him there. It was quite a journey, with a hyper, reactive dog in the backseat who couldn’t be around people without having an extremely fearful response. When we got to Seattle, we were relieved to see how well he did with the program, and after a few days of testing his aptitude, Conservation Canines is keeping him. It was a trip I’ll never forget!

    The last vacation I took was a little staycation here in Austin with my husband! 2 years ago for our anniversary we went to our favorite downtown hotel on the water and ate at our favorite restaurants and laid out by the pool. It was really relaxing and great to spend alone relaxing time with my favorite person! This post made me realize we need to take a vacation… It took me a minute to remember what our last vacation was.

    The last vacation I took was just last weekend. It was a quick weekend trip to the small town of New Buffalo, Michigan for a wedding. I live in Chicago, so it was quite a breath of fresh air to get out of the city for a weekend. When we weren’t attending wedding festivities, we spent our time at wine tastings, farmers markets, and lounging on the porch of our rental house. The weekend was filled with just as much celebration as much as necessary unwinding!

    I have been working all summer without a vacation because I work as a teacher at an art university, in the industrial design department.  At the end of the month I will be going away for a three day weekend by taking a Friday off to volunteer with an organization that has provided many vacations for me: First Descents.  This organization provides outdoor adventure camps for young adult cancer survivors living beyond their diagnosis.  I get to help people get their first taste of surfing in Santa Barbara, and it’s going to be wonderful.

    towards the end of last year my husband & i agreed that we would separate after 12 years & two gorgeous young kids together.  i bought a return ticket to london (where i lived for a few years many years ago) to see my favourite band, the black keys, in february of this year.

    i enjoyed two weeks in london as a tourist & taking a lot of time to think about what is important to me.  after the first week, i wanted to come back to australia because i missed my boys SO much!

    the day before i arrived back home, my husband moved out & a new chapter began in all our lives – our kids were our main concern but because we have been mutually amicable about the whole arrangement, they are perfectly happy which makes me happy too 🙂

    so my last holiday was the prologue to a new chapter in the book of me, one i am very excited to be in xx

    My last true break with reality was February when we went to stay at a lodge in Cambria and then a bed and breakfast inn in Monterey. It felt so fantastic to not think about boys, homework, business, paperwork and taxes, and to just enjoy the noise and the silence of the world around us. Ate clam chowder by the ocean, wandered the shoreline and the shops, sat in the bathtub until I was prune-y everyday.  What a blessing and a gift to have a vacation to refresh and enjoy life.

    The last vacation I took was to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Va with  my family and two younger cousins. I had to share a hotel room with an 8 year old, 9 year old, thirteen year old, and 15 year old. But I gotta say, I really enjoyed myself 🙂 I’m not sure if all children are natural born comedians (with pre-conceived ideas about how to make you laugh), or if their innate mannerisms and exclamations are just naturally funny. We had a ball! Note to anybody visiting a theme park with children though: pack some shots of botox, because after the amount of grinning you’re going to do, those wrinkles are sure to go permanant 🙂

    I took an awesome mid-week vacation with my Mum, Nana and Granddad last week. It was an impromptu trip as they are visiting from England – we drove a few hours to the Adirondack region in Northern NY state, Lake Placid. It was amazing as the leaves are just beginning to turn, but it was still hot enough to have a dip in the lake (it was chilly!). I love the quaint little shops and the awesome microbrewery for a cold lager after a walk around the lake. Lovely, lovely.

    My husband and I have a two year old and we live a distance from both our families. So it’s hard to say what counts as a vacation since we’re always visiting family when we travel, and of course having a two year old is always hard work. I would say the most recent “vacation” we took was just last week; the in-laws were in town and we took them to stay at a nearby resort for a few days. We live in Hawaii, so the nearby resorts are pretty nice! There was a pleasant balance of everyone-together time and just-the-three-of-us time (and even a little just-the-two-of-us time). And it was great to have a room right by the pool! Now next time we just have to convince the little guy that it’s actually fun to be in the water.
