In this day and age, it seems we get so busy with our daily tasks that we forget to take the time to sit down and write someone a note, just for the heck of it. Sure, we email and we write on people’s walls on Facebook, and we follow people on an array of social media sites but how often do you actually put pen to paper and write a note? I don’t do it often enough, that’s for sure. Part of the problem is I don’t have any fantastic stationery to use. Not for long.
Tracy Locke Castro, of Fair Morning Blue,  is an artist from Austin, Texas who designs and creates amazing greeting cards, hand stamped textiles, and other bespoke goods. Her work is the kind of art you wish you had created and you feel honored adding your name to the bottom of the card. Truth be told, Castro has my dream job. The only difference between us is, well, her talent. And her artistry. And her amazing technique. Yes, let’s bring back the handwritten note. With Fair Morning Blue on our side, we can’t lose.

Fair Morning Blue is giving away 3 boxed sets of cards packaged in brown kraft boxes: Ribbons and Arrows (set of 8, 2 of each design), Spring Beach Umbrellas (set of 6, 2 of each design) and Santa Fe Summer in Pink (set of 8, 2 of each design) to one lucky winner! To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Tuesday, June 18th. Comments now closed…good luck!
Please visit Fair Morning Blue and tell us: What do you want to be when you grow up? (As in, what big dreams do you still keep hidden away?)
Start checking the winner’s box on Monday, June 24th, to see if you’ve won!

I am just now starting to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I just got out of a 4-year job in which my primary responsibilities were reception and administration work (which I was skilled at, but bored by), but I got to use my graphic design skills to create advertising and brochures for my company. After it became clear that there was no way for me to move up in the company and shift the balance of my responsibilities to the design stuff that I loved, I realized I had to make my own dreams happen. Having applied furiously for graphic design positions every time I was seeking employment with no luck (I have a degree in architecture, but not one specifically in graphic design), I took the brave step to try my hand at freelancing. I’m in my second month and finding it much more satisfying, though slow-going. While working on paid clients’ work, I still have to pinch myself that I am being paid for designing! I’m meeting interesting people in my search for new clients and hopefully before long, I can really feel as if I am fulfilling my dreams of being a graphic designer!

I want to be an interior designer when I grow up… right now I’m in my first career, graphic artist, and I love it, but I also dream about doing something a little more tactile. Who knows how or when it will happen, but I’d love to move into interior decorating at some point down the road!

I still dream of owning my own business (a shop full of pretty paper products, items for the home, and handmade goodies), and becoming a mama (I’m still holding out hope that I can adopt in the near future!). Cheers to making all our dreams come true….or at least some of them! 🙂

This may be a bit cliche, but I’ve always dreamed of being a CIA agent! Every time I saw a movie about the CIA when I was a wee lad, I would go insane and run around the house with gadgets I made and spied on everyone.

I want to be a poet! I haven’t done any serious writing for a while now, well not the amount I was writing while in art school. Most of the writing I’ve done is for reflective responses on teaching, lesson plans, or answering questions about what my students’ have achieved this year.

I would love to be a homesteader when I grow up. I know it doesn’t sounds very ambitious, but I love the idea of keeping beehives to collect delicious honey and make various bath products from… I want to be able to grow my own food and pickle it in adorable little jars tied up with baker’s twine… to live in a small cabin and host quaint book clubs on my front porch while everyone sips cold elderberry tea.. I wish I could just live off the land and sell the goods I’m lucky enough to have (eggs from chickens, milk from eggs, goat cheese, jellies, jams, homemade crocheted doilies, etc) – I guess my grown up dream would be to live as a 70 year old woman who values the “homemade”

I wish to some day be a homesteader or farmer. I don’t have the desire to build a home from the ground up but I would love to put some love into a little farm out of the way. Maybe my little family and I could raise chickens and a goat. I dream quite a lot about vegetable gardens and running a booth at a farmers market. The quiet country life has called to me for as long as I can remember and I am an old fashioned kind of girl at heart.

    I want to be famous!
I have always wanted to be famous but I started to realize that my talents don’t really lead to the lifestyle of the rich and the famous. I’m still looking for my shot though. Maybe ill be famous in a smaller community, like with my poetry.

I want to write a novel. Nothing grandiose, just a good story. Several of my friends have published novels, and I don’t necessarily want to publish a novel, but I want to write it and know that I can. Everyday I try and write a couple 100 words. As a mother of 2 busy boys, it’s nice to do something every day that isn’t undone the next moment and that works towards a lifetime goal.

I also want to drive across the US of A.  I’ve been up and down the east coast and to different spots here and there over this great country, but I still want to get in the car and drive out west stopping and soaking up the environment and culture at each place.

I want to be a friend match-maker! I feel like the people you surround yourself with can make all the difference in how you feel, sometimes they are just hard to find! So instead of finding people’s partner…I want to find them bff’s!! What an amazing job that would be with my only goal to make other people happy!!

    Erin says:

It’s really very simple. I still (always) want to be a mom when I “grow up.” The best mom I can be, who will teach her children how to laugh from their bellies and how to cry when they need to instead of bottling up fear or anger or hurt indefinitely, and how to be a compassionate friend who isn’t a doormat, and who will read them all the best books, of course, and show them just how wonderful our world can be. And I want mine and my husband’s relationship to be a priority always, so that we can show our children what a strong, caring, giving partnership is so they’ll know it’s possible to have a relationship without shouting or unkind words and to disagree respectfully and so we can demonstrate the kind of love that we hope for them someday.
