Growing up, I was a stationary hoarder. I had a giant box in my closet full of cards, notepads, envelopes, what have you. I would write letters to friends, mail birthday and get well cards, stash perfect cards away for every possible occasion. Sadly, with the rise of email some years ago, my letter sending habit came to a screeching halt. Lately, however, I have been finding myself drawn to the card section in stores. (When that doesn’t do the trick, a little online searching usually fixes me just right!) I have started slowly creating a collection of beautiful cards and notes. My love of all things paper has returned and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Flowers in May is the gorgeous shop of artist/designer Emily Dumas. With her line of beautifully illustrated prints, greeting cards, calendars, and wrapping paper (genius!), Dumas strikes the perfect chord between modern simplicity and whimsical humor. Her designs are edited to perfection and create a fun, engaging atmosphere. This Laundry Day Print is adorable and would go perfectly in, well, my laundry room. And the 2013 calendar? Yes. Please. Talk about “The Perfect Gift.”

Flowers in May is giving a $40 gift certificate to one lucky reader! To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Wednesday, December 12th. Comments now closed…good luck!
Pick your favorite greeting card from the Flowers in May shop and write in it the best advice you have ever been given about love. (Virtually write it, of course. In the comments.)

The typewriter card is so sweet!

I actually just mailed a package to my best friend and her fiance, who just moved in together after dating long-distance for awhile (which means a big move for my girl and a little move for her dude). I get the feeling that getting used to co-habitating is a bit rocky for both of them, so in the card, I told them to “help each other feel like you’re home.” I know they can build a home together and it’s important for each of them to recognize what the other is dealing with. I would give that advice again and again!

Warm Winter Wishes is my absolute favorite! The best advice I have ever been given about love is “Wait.” I have been with my husband since we were 16 and in high school together (12 years ago). We waited to get married (6 years), waited until we were financially stable to have babies (10 years) and our relationship is strong because we have had plenty of time to grow together while waiting. If love is meant to last then there will be no harm in waiting.

My favorite card is the “Bonjour Card”…Best advice I’ve received on love is timing is everything. Timing as in who you meet, if the person is a good fit for you depending on what you/he/she is doing, and even timing in terms of interaction.

I love the Animal Kingdom card! So cute!

The best advice I have been given about love – about marraige, really – is that it’s never 50/50. It’s good advice. Sometimes it’s 49/51. Sometimes it’s 70/30. Or sometimes, 30/70 (the other way). It all depends on what’s going on. But it’s never really 50/50 at any given time. It doesn’t mean that things are bad, just that sometimes one person has to work harder because they know that one day they’ll be crabby, sick, bored, depressed and their partner will be picking up their slack.

I love this xmas card http://www.etsy.com/listing/115009462/merry-christmas-card. It was a tough pick because I’m pretty obsessive with cards, but that one represented a lot of the Canadian iconic things that I love about the Christmas season! Best love advice? Don’t play games.

    Syd says:

“Be lighthearted in life and in love. Love will happen to you. But until then, find the simply joys in life and be grateful for their beauty,” would be written in The One on the Top Shelf card.

    Tiffany says:

Written in the “when life gives you lemons” card:
After a breakup: “Someday you’ll meet someone who will make you forget the name of your ex!”

This was great advice and always stuck with me after my breakup, and it was SOOO true!

Well, I’m only to pick one, huh? For me, it’d be the nom nom card. Cute stuff. The best advice about love? I’m remembering something food related! I’m terrible at remembering punch lines but ‘you’ll know he’s the one when you order garlic in your entree & he does too. Is as close as I can get!

My favorite is A Day at the Top.

    Joann says:

I’ve fallen for the moustache trend so my favorite one is the “sweet ‘stache” card! I like how I can play on the words with the card and put candy with it to give a friend a sweet stash of treats.

The best advice about love is to always accept yourself and your significant other as is. Love is about accepting each others quirks and living through the good and bad together hand-in-hand. That way when we are old and jangly together, we can say we have lived and always loved.

    The “Welcome Baby” one.

The one ‘bit’ of advice about everything, including love, that my mum has drummed into me is to “Be your best self”. Since having my daughter 2 years ago this has never been so important; if I’m not my best self, if I don’t do my best then she won’t either. Doing your best doesn’t mean exhausting yourself it means being honest with yourself and I think that’s a lot to do with love- in so many ways.

I would be silly here and say “Bee your best self” inside the bee card.

    Buhdum-pishhhh 😉

I love the welcome baby card.

The best advice I’ve ever gotten is not to go to bed angry at each other. It’s super hard sometimes, but working through things is worth it! Sleep doesn’t happen easily when you’re angry.

    Madeline says:

    “welcome baby”

it’s easier to love someone when you know they’re story- ask people who they are & then love them better.

We Are All Mad……great card….The best advise on love came from my grandmother and she would say to me…”Kim, real love is not based on romance, candle light dinner and walks along the beach. “”real love” is  based on respect, compromise, care and trust. …..and she was so so right!
