Ah, stationery. We’ve discussed this before but it bears repeating. There is nothing that says love like a handwritten note on a carefully chosen piece of paper. Sure, scratches on random scraps serve their purpose but it is the time and energy spent on choosing the right pieces that mean something. The lost art of sending tangible correspondence is something that speaks to our mission this month to focus on “Abudant Love.”

Jade Social is a paper, floral, and event planning company founded by Elizabeth Bergren in New York. Bergren’s hand crafted designs bring a special touch to the game of what it means to correspond, what it means to design. There is intention and meticulous care (and impeccable design, of course.) Jade Social is a full service line, friends. So when you plan your next event, when you just want to write a note: let your heart guide you. And let Jade Social do the rest.

Jade Social is giving away one Full set of the Naples Collection (includes palm letter, scrapbook, folding card, sm flat card) to one lucky winner! To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Thursday, February 27th. Comments now closed…good luck!

my friends rented out a restaurant for their 10th wedding anniversary and invited all their family and friends. it was smaller than it sounds (maybe 50 people) and very lovely and intimate.

Murder Mystery! A best friend of mine hosted a murder mystery party. She went over the top, but it was a small group of friends (only about 10 of us there.) She set up a murder mystery story (most of us were English majors in college) and assigned us all characters. We received nicely distressed manilla envelopes in the mail with our character sheets (which were typed out on a typewriter), the back story, whether or not you were the victim/murderer, and what our character knew about the other characters. It was set in the 1940s, so we all arrived dressed up (in character) and started from the get-go. No one had a clue who the victim/murderer was going to be – it was SO. MUCH. FUN. We stayed in character until the mystery was solved – arguing, making accusations, trying not to take the blame. It was easily the best party I’ve ever been to… all of my best friends were there, so it made it insanely fun/memorable.

The best party I’ve ever been to was one I recently hosted.  (That sounds jerky, but let me explain!)  My 5 year old daughter and I were house sitting in a BEAUTIFUL, breathtaking home.  We had a Christmas party and we planned the whole thing together for all of our adult friends.  We had a huge beautiful table set up, and we made appetizers – during the appetizer eating, we performed for all of our friends.  I played some Bach and Beethoven on the grand piano (we can’t afford a regular piano, and I miss it so!) while my daughter danced for everyone, including several exciting costume changes.  In the middle, she started turning the lights on and off for special effects.  I lost it laughing  and had to stop playing for a bit.  🙂
Then everyone drew a special card and they got assigned to an animal or character cut out that corresponded with a seat at the table.  Everyone had to enact their character before taking their place at the table (i.e. “You’ve drawn the lion.  Please roar and find your place at the table.”)  During dinner, we passed around a cup with questions for people to answer.  One question was something that I wrote (“What do you think art is?  How do you know art when you see it”) and the other question was one my daughter wrote (“What is your favorite kind of hat?”)

So the reason it was the best party for me ever was that I did it all with my daughter (I’m a single mom) and it blurred my worlds together.  All my adult friends got invited into seeing what my life with my daughter is like: and I could just stand back and watch them enjoying her and her enjoying them.  Normally I’m a really talkative, loud kind of lady, but I said so little at this party.  That to me was an experience of true joy.  Just being with the people I love and having the delight of having coordinated connections.

The best party I have ever been to was my wedding. We went completely simple and kept it just our immediate families (12 of us total). That allowed us to really focus on those around us and truly celebrate love and the union that was bringing us all together. And a tower of cupcakes didn’t hurt either 😉

The best party ever happens once a year and is a bit different every year, but always just as fabulous. My family has a 4th of July reunion a our lake house. Anyone is welcome and we never know just who is going to show up but it’s always a good surprise. One year we had an Americana themed surprise wedding shower and the next year a happy and teary conversation with her husband wishing him a happy 4th while he was in Afghanistan. This year we look forward to us all being back together. Literally every year is different and magical in its own way.

The best party for me is in an exotic location, with new and old friends, and lots of surprises. Being spontaneous and open to anything usually makes for a great event… plus some loud music and buckets of champagne.

My favorite party is one during the summer where you can be outside with friends and family! Ideally on the beach!

Attending our staff holiday party last year (Dec 2013) was probably the best party I’ve ever attended because I felt so welcomed to be part of a great teaching staff. It was “ugly sweater” themed and I created my own ugly sweater for it. There was icy margaritas, plenty of cookies, they even had Hawaiian food! It was fun chatting with co-workers and they even brought their kids (they had a bounce house outside for them), so it was a great family-oriented party!

Last New Years I attended a NYE party in Florida that was held at one of the most beautiful homes I had ever been to. The house was decorated perfectly for the evening with balloons, party favors and confetti. The party was catered and the food was displayed in the most exquisite way. Every type of food you could imagine was at this party, not to mention there was a full bar with two bartenders. Did I mention the pool in the backyard surrounded by candle light?… I mean if I was with a significant other and not my Dad it would have been the most romantic evening.

The best party I have ever been to was a few summers ago at my friend’s beach house at the Jersey Shore. His house is right on the beach in Lavalette, NJ, so a big group of us spent the whole day laying out and in the water. When the sun started to dip, we filtered into the sandy lawn to BBQ, have drinks, and play (highly competitive) games of shuffle board. We stayed on that lawn all night telling stories, singing along and laughing. By the end of the night, we were all wearing sweats and barefoot. The best part of the night was when it actually became morning and we watched the sunrise over the Atlantic. The “party” basically lasted the whole weekend! What made this party so special was simply being in great company of life-long friends. Great company and great music will make any occasion memorable!

The best party I have ever been to was over this past summer in New York City. It was for a very good friend, Michael’s birthday and he loves going over the top. We started the day by going to this extravagant brunch in Chelsea, where there were performers, good music, and even better food. We continued this escapade by heading to this rooftop party in midtown Manhattan. What made this party so great, besides the food, was being able to be in the capital of the world, on a luxurious rooftop surrounded by beautiful skyscrapers and beautiful people.

I think one of my best parties was when I turned 21. My boyfriend and I drove down to visit my mom in Ohio to celebrate my birthday. We arrived in the evening to find not only my mom at the house but my sister and my dad, both of whom who live out of state (and secretly flew in to celebrate my birthday) at the house as well. It was a completely unexpected but very meaningful party with people I care about.

    Every summer at the cottage.
Our family arrives, from all the corners of this great country, from Memorial Day to Labor Day, taking great care to get there by the 4 th of July!
Everyday is a celebration, in the company of those I love at a place that is timeless and magical, full of love and laughter, great food and drink, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, a place that holds the memoirs of generations gone by and the promise of those to come.
    Yep. It’s that good.

It’s so hard to narrow it down to one!  I’ve been to several weddings lately that qualify-two of them were my own children!!  Being together with those you love, great food, great music and a relaxed, festive atmosphere are the  ingredients for any fabulous party!!

My wedding! It was a fun, relaxed celebration with my favorite people in the world. After the ceremony, it just felt like a great party dancing underneath a gazebo, drinking wine, and having the best time together. It was especially great to have our families mingle along with our friends from high school, college, and beyond.

Best party I ever went to was my wedding (circa 1989). It was the first in the family for both sides.  The last of the siblings (there are 9) was married almost four years ago and guests were still talking about my wedding!!

The best party I ever went to was in New Orleans for Mardi Gras.  My best friend had never been, so I gifted her plane tickets for her birthday.  We came home with thirty pounds of beads and parade swag as happy reminders of all of the fun we had and shared the wealth with everyone we knew.

Last year, my grandparents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and all our family and friends got together to celebrate their lives and their love. I felt honored to honor their dedication to one another and their family. I loved seeing their old friends show up and see them giggle and laugh and tease like their were young. I don’t think either of them stopped smiling all night.

The best party I ever went to was my wedding. And not just because it was me that was getting married. My husband and I went out of our way to make sure our wedding was a little bit different and that people were comfortable: no seating chart, comfort food (mac & cheese!), a great band, short ceremony and late night pizza! We just wanted people to enjoy a night out and have fun.

The best party I’ve ever been to was a baby shower for a woman having twins.  It was tons of women at a late afternoon shower, with lots of very personal gifts to set up her nursery, full of laughter and love, which was amazing because some of the guests were new acquaintances of the mother-to-be.  No silly party games, lots of yummy nibbles, cute decorations, pretty mismatched china and silver–lots of attention to details, and the hostess kept everybody involved with chatting, passing around presents, writing little things to the mother and children in a notebook–her thoughtfulness was what really made all these different women from different areas of the mother’s life meld into a beautiful party.  The beautiful setting was like “icing on the cake” (which I remember was made by another guest, a mutual friend of the hostess and the mother).

The best party for me was a family reunion. I was in high school, and family that I had never met before, from all over the world – across the US, Canada, Italy, and France – we all met in Chicago. Our family is relatively small – anyone with this last name is related – yet about 200 of us could gather together and right away feel like the family we were. I can close my eyes and still picture the sunset on the drive home, and remember the amazing feeling of joy and contentment I felt at that exact moment.

The best party I’ve ever been to was my dad’s going away party!  He lived a great life and died good too!  He was 89 years young and had just spend Christmas with all 9 of his children plus grandchildren and great grandchildren!  It just so happened that everyone was in town that year!  New Year’s eve we were all very surprised to hear he died, but died quickly.  We all gathered again for several days to celebrate daddy’s life. He was loving it, no doubt!  The little one’s were  excited and still ask when we are having “gandy” parties again!!

My wedding day!  Its easy to get lost in all the planning and forget that this is probably the biggest party you’ll ever throw and all the most important people in your life will be together in one room.  I remember stepping outside on the night with my new husband and looking back in through the windows on to the dance floor – everyone was partying and having a good time.  It was awesome!

My favorite party was my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary celebration. It was special because it was an occasion to see extended family and close friends. Also many memories, pictures, etc. were shared. It was a happy time and celebrated a wonderful marriage and family. Another great part of the event was the mannequin with mom’s dress and the beautiful table with pictures, items from the event. They were so happy to celebrate with everyone and shocked to see so many friends and relatives.

My favorite parties happen at my house on Christmas Eve.  We attend the Children’s Mass with my brothers and their families and then return to our house for ham, cheesy potatoes and pizza from the local Italian bakery.  The tradition started at my sister’s house.  Neighbors and friends usually join us throughout the evening.  My daughter always notes that our house smells amazing on Christmas Eve with the ham cooking and the Christmas candles burning.

The best parties I have attended have been the intimate birthday parties for my 3 children.  They have separate parties with their friends but the simple parties that is just us are the most memorable.  They get a special cake and get to spend the day however they want with the family.  And we always point out what time they were exactly born.

Best party I’ve ever been to is one that my house threw on Valentine’s Day! Our house was tired of all the fluff that comes with this V-Day, so we threw an Anything But Couples (ABC) party! We believe that love can come in all forms and sizes, so we wanted people to remember self-love, love for food and drinks, and love for the company of your greatest friends and supporters! This party was special because I got to see many of the people I love in one place and not have to deal with impressing them with romantic stuff!
