Sometimes being a part of the Bright Side Project feels a bit like indulging in goodness on a continual basis. This site is basically a well-curated testament to sunshine and beauty and my own personal “Daily Dose” of goodness. Just one of the perks, I suppose. The artists and contributors bring a level of beauty to the table that is unparalleled and we are honored to share them with you.

Julia Kostreva is a designer and art director living in San Francisco who spends her time creating beautiful objects and helping others channel their own creativity into worthwhile endeavors. Kostreva’s shop is her self-appointed paradise, chock full of handcrafted home good and accessories. I am personally in love with these mini copper planters and this Dots artwork has me swooning. That’s what we’re here for, friends. Your daily dose of swoon. Julia Kostreva to the rescue.

Julia Kostreva is giving away three oversize black and white prints to three lucky winners (one each)! Winners will have a choice between five options: 1 :: 2 :: 3 :: 4 :: 5. To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Wednesday, August 13th.
Please visit Julia Kostreva and tell us: What is your passion? (And how much of your passion is a part of your day job?)
Start checking the winner’s box on Tuesday, August 19th, to see if you’ve won!

My passion is Creation. I love focusing my attention on something and making something beautiful. A designer by trade, I love working on freelance in my spare time to design invitations, banners and other pretty things. I love cooking dinner and mixing up bright colors and textures and creating something lovely (and delicious) and I always end my evening reading a book and creating an entirely new world in my head as I visualize each word, phrase and charactor.

My passion is to design and be artistic. I don’t stick with one design field, I do everything that comes naturally.

I am lucky to have graduate degrees in both of my passions: creative writing and social work. In one field, I get to explore imagined worlds; in the other, I get to work to make this world better. Social work is my day job because it allows me to help others and pay the bills. Writing is my night job because it lets me create without having to worry whether or not that creation will keep me solvent. The passion I feel in working one job fuels the passion for the other, and back and forth it goes.
PS I love your ‘Keep Going’ print!

i have never believed that i have one passion. i love a lot of different things. i like to do a lot of different things. i like to try new stuff. so, using a word as grand as passion for what i enjoy, seemed overkill. but, at the same time, i think about certain ideas and get really hyped up and excited. technology and words and art all make me kind of giddy. and they are all things i work with. so, in a way, i suppose my work IS my passion.

My passion is beautiful design and as a freelance designer, it’s what I am paid to do, though my life is pretty full taking care of my new little one and I have scaled back my clients lately. I am eager to get back into it, though, and am working on a proposal to the local chapter of the American Heart Association to do the materials for their Go Red for Women luncheon again this year. Being a mom is great, but I also love my work!

My passion is paint and patterns. I am happiest with a paint brush in my hand. It can be painting a wall with good intention, a canvas with an inspiration, or giving new life to an old piece of furniture. While painting I look for or impose patterns. I do this when I’m working in other creative forms as well. That’s why I like knitting…it’s a pattern of numbers. It’s what a look for when framing a photo (photography is my side job and hobby). I am a bartender, photographer, and painter now but I dream of being a pattern or textile designer. Wallpapers, fabric, or upholstery are all areas is like to explore. Patterns and painting….those are my passions. I’m also pretty pumped about up cycling but that usually (for me anyway) involves a lot of paint and vintage fabrics with colorful patterns.

Openness. Open information, open art, open minds, and open public spaces. Sharing, I truly believe, is essential to growth as an individual and progress as a society. I am still in school, but I am studying to be a librarian. I would love to be a children’s librarian and help instill a spirit of openness, innovation, and discovery in young people.

I’m passionate about being the best (or my best) in everything I do.  Baking, painting, making homemade jams, or whatever it may be! I don’t do things half way 🙂 I often think, “how can this be better?” and work towards that!

    Sparrow says:

My kids are my passion, all three of the wild, gross little boys that are currently my brood. For the past year I have been agonizing about what to do with my eldest, whether to put him in public school or home school him. I know that sounds dumb, but my husband can attest to the tears and stress and self doubt that kept me up at night. This last week I decided to home school him and I feel completely liberated. I keep a notebook of all my ideas. My kids are my passion and now their education is fully in my hands. But, rest easy, he is a social kid and if you want to swoon, he will recite Emily Dickenson’s “Hope is the thing with feathers” for you. When they’ve grown, I hope to return to my passions of art and teaching humanities at the university. But for this season, I’m content and at peace.

    Rinny says:

My passion is helping people in small ways – I love making people smile or brightening their day by one small gesture, be it opening a door for someone with full hands or simply greeting someone with a smiley “good morning!”. I fully believe that one small act of kindness or helpfulness can turn a person’s day around. Being an administrative assistant is all about helping people and doing those small things to help everyone succeed. I take immense pride that my boss is always happy with the work I do for him and it makes his day a bit lighter.

    Elizabeth says:

My passion is to be filled with knowledge and to show kindness.  To be wise, to be loving.  My job right now is being a PhD student, so I’ve got the knowledge part covered, but there are often conflicts around my other desires.  I know I am there to learn to love – which to me is the purpose of all knowledge – and sometimes the goals that others have for me in my work conflict with that.  Nonetheless, I am RIDICULOUSLY thankful that I have the chance that I do.  Nothing is perfect.  I’m blooming and growing where I’m at, even if it isn’t always all in my control.  Who could ask for anything more?

    Jennifer says:

My passion is education. I just started law school, and I have 2 master’s degrees. I love the way I change every time I learn something new, and I love the process of formal education. I’m lucky that I’m a consultant and can incorporate each new thing I learn into my “bag of tricks.” School keeps me from getting stale and makes me strive to become a better version of myself.

    Emily M. says:

My passion is being a mother. To teach, learn from, protect, and prepare my children for their future is such an amazing privilege and I can’t image doing anything else. Being a mom is not only a full-time job, it is my life, my joy, my passion, and my greatest achievement.

  24. 24
    Ellen L. says:

My passion is making people happy, but I’m in advertising, and I feel like I do quite the opposite… Now I know why I’m not happy in my day job! 🙂

    Monica Borge says:

My passion is meeting new people and talking to them. This is a huge aspect of my life because I work in a restaurant, so I basically do this all day everyday but even when I’m grocery shopping or getting gas or reading a newspaper. Just learning about others is something I find mindblowing. Each individual has their own way of thinking that is crafted from their experiences in life and it amazes me how unique everyone is.

    Kelly M says:

My passion is hiking to the top of mountains. And sadly, no, I do not do it for work. Although my desk job in lovely Boulder, Colorado allows me to have plenty of mountains in my back yard to climb up on the weekends.

    Cindy says:

Music is my passion. The only part of my job that it has a part in is the commute during which I turn it up loud and rock out!

    Marie says:

My passion is persevering. Despite the many difficulties I have faced in my life, the most recent one was my house burning down, I have learned to focus on the good things that lift me up in life. I have the worlds most amazing friends and without them I would never be where I am today! I know that I am a strong person, and with every setback I have pushed through only making myself stronger. It is important as a woman to know that I have had boyfriends and family and friends, but I am a strong independent woman who will not give up no matter what stands in my way! I am passionate about my life and never faulting to lowering my standards. It is okay to depend on others but not so that it becomes easier to let others create your life for you. I am in control of my life and I am passionate about making the best out of it!
