{shop :: Facebook :: Twitter}

My love for throw pillows has been well documented here at The Bright Side Project. This isn’t something I take lightly, friends. I have real feelings for a good throw pillow. My couch is an absolute reflection of where I am in my life at any given time and my throw pillows are the way I express myself. To this end, I take great pride in sharing great textile artists with you, dear readers. I am especially excited when I am sharing something that makes me gasp out loud when I am browsing shops online.

Emily Moser is one of those artists whose work you remember. Kissen Studio is a reflection of true textile artistry and Moser’s use of color is a study in precision and intention. I have featured a couple of favorites of mine above but you could honestly point your mouse (or touchpad or stylus or whatever) on any item in Kissen Studio and I would exclaim “Yes! Yes!” over and over. I don’t have many words today, friends. I’ll let Kissen Studio do the talking for me.

Kissen Studio is giving away one $70 gift card to one lucky reader! To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Thursday, November 28th. *Giveaway open to US residents only!*
All BSP readers can receive a 20% discount in the shop through January 1st! Use the coupon code “BrightSide” upon checkout!

I like to express myself through good smelling candles, soothing and stimulating colors, meaningful art on the walls, lovely textured pillows and blankets, healthy & interesting houseplants, everything intentionally choosen and cared for–all of this says that I am aware of all my senses and I want to create and live in an environment that is visually and sensually pleasing.  It says that I matter, my family matters, and the friends who enter our house matter, and that beauty and comfort matter!

I absolutely LOVE color. I think having a neutral base for a room with huge pops of colors really makes things interesting and eye catching. I like to be completely unconventional. Bright purples and teals and different patterns that most people wouldn’t think would go together look awesome. I live by the ocean so bringing the outside elements like sunshine and water indoors helps make the room flow.

I have very eclectic taste, which is completely in line with how I view the world and what I enjoy. I try to have pieces in my home from everywhere, collections from my travels, and try to embody a worldly feel.

I like rusty things that have a history. A collection of old locks, glass fishing floats, fossils, a miniature tool set from my husbands childhood….I guess because I know every thing tells a story. I am a listener. I had never made the connection before now. 🙂

I love my style of home decor. It’s what I like to call a “beautiful mess”.  It’s not messy to the extent that it’s a sight for sore eyes, but I can call it a mess, since some things do look a little disheveled.  I use my desk more as another form of storage.  Though it looks messy for some, I know exactly where everything is.  I am also a huge fan of colors that pop.  Hanging over my bed, I have a huge tie-dye Buddah tapestry.  It brings a lot of life and peace into my room.  I am also a very sentimental person, I have little gifts and trinkets hanging off my bed frame, like a cat plush I received or birthday hats.  Since I am a huge pack rat, I’ve kept many things from high school, my travels, my everyday life.  I see my home decor style as a chic time capsule 🙂

I like classic basics (a chocolate sofa, a wrought-iron headboard) with more interesting accents, especially from places I’ve traveled. I plan on decorating my walls with framed pieces of South American fabrics from Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia alongside my husband’s collection of antique framed maps. I also have another favorite cozy touch: my collections of teapots and my clay piggy collection from Latin America.

I express myself in home decor through a total mix and match of styles and colors. This truly reflects who I am because I feel I am a mix of basic and unexpected. Beiges and Pops of Color. Rustic and modern. Just depends on the day and my mood which side comes out!

I spend a lot of time at my desk and having little figurines from my travels or pops in color with my accessories always make me a little happier. Placement is really important, as well as following “less is more”. The number of items and the colors of those items help me express my mood and the amount of cluster in my head.

I love for my home décor to be a collection of objects that have meaning to me. I have my late father’s golf clubs in my office; they remind me of him. On my walls are art and objects that I’ve collected in my travels. And, everywhere are pictures of people that I love. Every object has a reason for being and a happy memory associated with it.

I recently got into owls! It seems like they are really easy to collect too because a lot of places are offering decor and other items featuring owls. I love that they look regal and mysterious!

My decor and general household screams the following things (in no particular order):
    1.  This girl loves Amy Butler fabric.
    2.  This girl loves to repurpose things.  (OLD hanging scale to keep napkins in, old door cabinet with random hooks to hang aprons on, etc.)
    3.  This girl has children.  Who throw things around.
    4.  This girl loves her family and the things from the past.
    5. This girl loves patterns and textures.  (Mixed with shabby chic furniture)
    6.  This girl is getting a Ph.D. and has no time, but a lot of books.  (Which double as great decor by the way.)
    7.  This girl loves to hope and believe in beauty.  Objects matter to her because beauty matters to her.

Your work, by the way, is beautiful.  My mother is an amazing seamstress but I can…well…I can only make Halloween costumes and curtains.  (Please don’t look at my seams!)  I dream of some day being able to make beautiful things like you do – and I cheer in my heart whenever I encounter someone who is making meaningful and beautiful objects.  Go you!

    Samantha S says:

My decor has definite overtones of first-grad-school-apartment, but I’ve tried to surround myself with objects I love. (Stacks of books can be decorative, right?) I have very simple furniture in wood, white and gray, but I like to add bright colors wherever I can. I’m particularly proud of a postcard collage of sketches of turn-of-the-century Russian Ballet costumes, as well as a set of reversible pillows I designed and made myself.

(Let me just say quickly that I adore these pillow designs! The tonal color palettes are so pleasing and the origami designs are beyond clever. Beautiful work and thank you for sharing!)

I have a hard time balancing my home decor, truthfully. A tiny part of me wants the things I love (stripes! bold colors! graphic patterns!) splashed on every single surface, but then the rational side pulls it back and leans towards neutral walls. (My personality is somewhat timid and retiring, so this is probably a sadly accurate reflection, hee.) I try to indulge in my accessories most, since I know they’re easier to swap out or tone down if I get too many things happening at once. We’re actually in a holding pattern in our house right now, because we have SO much renovating left to do, so most of our rooms are pretty much untouched. I’m going to try and at least get some muted colors on the walls (not just greys and tans!) to add some spice to the decor!

I like modern art so my style reflects that. I like streamlined furniture and clean, simple lines.

Love the blue and green colorblock pillow!  I tend to craft, make, and up cycle things I already have. Love rustic and natural elements. I am always bringng sticks indoors to paint and glitter:)

I love simplicity – lots of neutrals with pops of color! Anything old, anything weathered is always good too 🙂

    Susie says:

My home has a bit of a split personality. My art studio is very colorful and whimsical, whereas the rest of the house feels more Zen. I too feel like I have different sides to me, on one hand I can be very social and enthusiastic about the things I’m passionate about; on the other hand, I am a natural introvert who needs my quiet time to recharge. The one constant however throughout the house, is much of our decor is artisan-made. I enjoy the memory each piece conjures or the connection I feel knowing the maker poured their love into it. Perhaps this part of our decor reflects my appreciation of authentic human interactions, of being fully present and mindful. p.s. The contrast of the linen and silk in your pillows is magnificent (again the dual personalities / aesthetics speaking!)

I love your aesthetic and your goal of brightening homes. I really believe in the concept of a hearth, that where my family lives and, frankly, spend most of our time, should reflect beauty, order, and love. My home (which is my first home as of just a few months ago) is mostly empty, but I’m starting to collect: pictures of my sweet little creatures, beautiful prints, colors to paint my dark walls, small touches that reflect a conscious desire to create a beautiful, comfortable, clean living space. Mostly, this reflects my consummate desire to surround my children with comfort, love and beauty. I want them to flourish and thrive, to feel brightened and beloved and safe.

I decorate my house only with things I really like and things that never go out of style. I guess you could say that it shows how I am an independent  person and I never take no for an answer….if  I reallly want something, there is no stopping me & if I don’t like something, I always have the final say.  🙂

I like clean lines and the simplicity of things.  I don’t buy art but I do use my children’s art work all over my house.  I have painting they made when they were 2 and 5.  It gives me a smile on my face everyday that I see them.

    Corky says:

I express myself through my unending rearranging. I move major furniture in my house at least 3 times a year, and smaller things constantly. The insides of me are always changing – so why not my furniture and home decor? It gives me a fresh space and I think energizes me to be with my family and live as beautifully as I can with them. (They like it too!) I tend to use warm colors in my house, and I have several in a room, so rearranging and redecorating is easy. (I also love white and colored furniture! I try to avoid dark black and brown pieces!) I have a blue, green, and yellow living room, (which makes me as happy as pudding). I sometimes emphasize the yellow, sometimes the blue, sometimes the green. Throughout my house I tend to use pieces that have several colors that are close to each other in the wheel spectrum so that I can modify the feeling of the room, but keep it feeling homey and warm. Is this too nerdy? I just love to make my home feel fresh and easy and open to guests, but also open and light for the little family that lives there!
