{please visit Le Petit Paillette here}

Full disclosure: there has been a bit of an accessory hiatus going on, personally speaking. Perhaps it was the heat of the summer weighing down, maybe it was just time for a breather. Whatever the reason, a forgotten bracelet recently experienced the light of day and opened up the window for other possibilities to fly in. One of these possibilities is the idea that to “Spring into Fall” is something more symbolic, more about decoration than theory. Perhaps embracing the change of the seasons is as simple as adornment. But first, we need to know where to go.

Le Petit Paillette is one of the shops I stumbled upon recently when looking to add to my accessory collection. Handcrafted by artist Nancy Lee, each piece is vibrant yet simple, chic yet whimsical. These are the types of pieces that people will stop you on the street to find out more about. (I would run across a parking lot to find out more about this Bisa Necklace. Seriously.) The accessory hiatus has officially ended. Springing into Fall has never looked better.

Le Petit Paillette is giving away one Single Strand Chevron Bracelet (Pattern – White/Pink/Mint/Black/Peanut) to one lucky winner. To enter to win, please answer the following question by Thursday, October 18th.  Comments now closed…good luck!

YEEEEEEEEEEARS ago now, me and my best friend went as “Shooting Stars”.

5xl black tshirts, tights, gold shoes (I covered mine in gold glitter, it was everywhere!), and I made these giant cardboard gold stars with ribbons etc, they were worn like a double backpack haha front and back. .. And we had water guns too (to shoot people- shooting stars!)

    See pic 😉
    those were the days!

I think my favorite costume will be mine this year! In the past couple years, my friends have planned group costumes. Last year, the theme was Andy’s Toys and everyone was a character from Toy Story. This year, it’s a circus theme, and I’m a fortune teller! There’s also a bearded lady, a strongman, sword swallower, popcorn vendors, ringleader, and animals! Group costumes are lots of fun, and I feel like each year it gets better and better.

I was an AIM smiley face one year! It was so comfortable, it was a cold Halloween that year in college. But I was wearing black yoga pants with a large yellow fleece cut out into a circle with the smiley face on the front in felt! It was very cozy!

I would have to go with the classic handmade unicorn costume that my grandma made me when I was six. Complete with a sparkly horn and glittery hoof mittens.

My favorite was probably the year I dressed up as the Morton Salt Umbrella Girl  🙂 This was college so it was rather scandalous to be all covered up by a raincoat. I also carried my own “beverage cup” which was a large plastic mug wrapped up with a Morton Salt label. I felt pretty creative!

One fabulous year my mom turned me into a Hershey kiss. I wore brown leggings and a brown turtleneck. She fitted straps to an inner tube, which I wore around my waist. She then covered everything from the inner tube up to my neck in aluminum foil, forming the kiss shape. I wore a small tin foil cap on my head with a long strip of paper coming out of it that said “Hershey kiss” over and over. I LOVED it. The only problem? I couldn’t sit down, which I quickly learned at my Girl Scout Halloween party that year. 🙂

My favorite costume has been when my kids were little and dressed up as a werewolf, Harry Potter and my husband put on a real small, tight, race-car-driver-type coverall with full helmut and tried to walk around the neighborhood with the kids and couldn’t see anything! hahaha That was a fun night!

I wish I had a good answer for this one but I am fairly new to the whole Halloween concept (back there I’m originally from, we don’t really celebrate it). I always wanted to dress up as Old Gregg though and paint myself green. It just never happened.

I didn’t have a car at college, so I had to come up with a costume based on items I could get at the grocery store. A star was born. A star burrito, that is. I wore a tube dress made out of aluminum foil and khaki cropped pants (the tortilla), and the rest was made out of fresh produce. Jalapeno earrings and necklace, cilantro garnish coming out of the pants, and a wig made of lettuce. The party was outside with a big bonfire, so much of my burrito was wilted by the end of the night, but it is still the best costume I ever made.

4th grade, I dressed as the Phantom of the Opera…I had a “painted” mask, a hat, cape, a black vest, and white shirt. (And I did not care that I was dressing as a male character. I just loved the Phantom of the Opera musical.)

I’ve rocked a lobster costume every year for the past 2 or 3 years at work on Halloween. My cousin brought me back a lobster hat from the east coast years ago, I pair that with lobster over mitts my sister got for me and a red shirt. The two best parts of this are: 1) I don’t even like lobster but people keep bringing me lobster stuff and 2) I work at a shelter for homeless youth but even the most badass street kids love the fact that I’m a lobster.

when I was little I was Cousin It from the Addams Family! Full hair with arm holes and a hair covered hood with two eyeholes cut into it. My mom then took a black bowler hat and painted a cobweb pattern on it. It was the coolest costume ever (and I stayed warm through all of the trick or treating 🙂

Three years ago, I went to a 90s themed Halloween/Surprise Birthday/Costume Party/Potluck, so I decided to go dressed up as Sailor Moon. I spent two weeks scouring the internet and searching every Halloween costume store in an approximately 25 mile radius of where I lived, when I finally found a Sailor Moon costume and they had one left in my size. I grew up in the 90s and Sailor Moon was one of my all-time favorites TV shows, so getting to dress up as that for Halloween (in a non-skimpy outfit!) was fantastic!

When I was a kid, my mom made me the most perfect Minnie mouse costume. Complete with the yellow shoe covers and big mouse hands. It was so adorable that I was Minnie for a few years running. I’ve done some fun ones as an adult but nothing compares to the fun you have when you are a kid and get to dress up!

My favorite is the winnie the pooh costume my mom made for my very 1st halloween. My most memorable is the box of crayons costume she made for my 3rd or 4th – the cardboard crayon box was too long and prevented me from being able to bend my legs, hence no climbing stairs!

I went as Minnie Mouse last year. I’m not usually over the top crazy about Disney, but I saw a red polka dot dress while browsing in my favorite thrift shop, and it just called out, “Minnie!” to me. My boyfriend went back later and bought it for my as a surprise. With some super cute out of the blue vintage inspiration I made what turned out to be my favorite costume ever!

When I was about 8 my mammy made me a Halloween costume, it was he best costume ever! I was a dancing flower… I wore green tights with with a green leotard, she cut out big green felt leaves that were pinned to me to make a skirt. I had a big plastic pot with the bottom cut out so I could walk around with it. Then I had a styrofoam flower petal headress with a big blue styrofoam guitar! I won every Halloween contest! They would play music and I would dance around!

This Halloween is going to be my personal best!  I’m going to be inside out Marge.  There’s a Simpsons treehouse of horrors episode where this fog comes and flips all the characters inside out, followed by a song and dance routine.  Ambitious, yes.  But the best!

This brings back memories, because I hated it at the time: I was forever a “Gypsy” as a kid. It was the only costume I ever remember buying and I wore it year after year because we couldn’t afford to purchase another one.

I was Mrs. Incredible/Elastiglirl one year and LOVED it! I put together all of the parts and even handmade some things. I wore a black, one piece suit over red leggings, and wore black dress socks with black flats to look like the boots she wears. And then I turned one of my UGA long sleeve shirts inside out so it was a solid red, and printed off a templete of the big “I” that is on their chest as well as a mask template. I colored in the mask and attached a strip of elastic so I could wear it, and then colored in and taped the “I” to my chest. I tied the long sleeve shirt up so it was cropped and showed just the bottom half of the black swimsuit. I really enjoyed this outfit because I worked so hard to think of what would work to best simulate the actual costume, and it turned out well!
