when you walk in to my home, you know instantly where I have been and what I love. There is no designed or show room look to our house. We have folk art, paintings, old rusty things and family finds. I try to not let it get out of control, but I love all of it. that little pillow would love very sweet on my much loved old church pew!

Well, I have trains on the floor, stickers on the walls and stains on the couch. I think my home automatically says “TODDLER” when you enter. Just trying to keep my head above water with two very needy little boys!

My home says:  This lady loves laughter, light, and complexity.  My furniture is all old, from a time when lines weren’t so severe, and refinished (by yours truly).  They are old pieces that I find and fix up, then mix with Amy Butler (and the likes) fabrics in pillows and cushions and curtains I’ve made.  I love my home – and so do my children – who often tell me how good it feels to come back.  My home shows that I believe beauty is important – that being a part of making that beauty is even more important.

I am the only female in a home full of guys (teenaged to adult), so my home is not a reflection of me, but really a reflection of our family.  I wish it was whimsical and and enchanting, and SPOTLESSLY CLEAN, but I wouldn’t take away any of the things that it is for it to actually be that way because I love the men and boys that also inhabit this space.  The lights on their bedroom ceilings are actually office spotlights-but that’s what they each wanted.  The paint color for the whole house is “cobweb grey” and my father thought I was joking when I said that’s what I was painting the walls, ceilings, doors, trim, everything, but we live in the country and I don’t believe in fighting with nature and I don’t want to spend more time cleaning than I have to. All of our dishes, glassware, silverware is mismatched, but each piece is intrinsically interesting and all of our furniture is wood and earth tones, but everything is comfortable and has “nice lines”. I believe in having things that have good texture and work well.  My home says I care about how things look and feel, and I also care about the people in my life and having everybody comfortable and happy.  No joke, there are rocks on the mantel and rocks on the table by the front door–but each one was brought into the house by somebody that thought it was a cool one and wanted to share it, that’s actually as priceless as some of the art we are fortunate enough to own.

It’s fairly obvious from the books stacked on every available surface and the growing piles of paper that my apartment is that of a literature graduate student; nevertheless, I also try to display things that remind me of those I love, or things I enjoy looking at– a wall of postcards of turn-of-the-century Russian ballet costumes; Impressionist art from an old calendar and a collection of postcards; little knicknacks my friends have given me as they travel; and a shelf of pictures of friends and family. I try to make my home comfortable and welcoming, interesting, and mostly neat.

I think it says: lovers of wine, beer, travel, and earthy colors! My husband’s pint glass collection, several unique wine racks, framed antique maps of where we’ve been and where we’ve lived (my favorite is the antique map of Ireland in our bedroom – our Honeymoon location), and the fact that nearly everything is a color found in nature (greens, browns, blues).

My home says “kids live here” – on any given day there are piles of shoes at the front door, jackets hanging on door knobs, games and books all over the coffee table, balls on the floor, skateboards in the hallway and a ton of laundry.  Wouldn’t have it any other way!

Our home tells guests that we are a family of readers, storytellers, history lovers, and that we put people before things. Books and vintage pieces can be found in every corner as well as pictures of our loved ones. I hope the energy that emanates from our home makes everyone feel valued and welcome in our little world.

My home says that it is worn and loved.  My couch is covered in cat scratches, my furniture has nicks and dings and my art is never quite straight on the walls, but it’s the imperfection that makes it mine… and people are happy and comfortable when they visit.

My home is like a pintrest board..its filled with the pieces that make me smile…Each of my daughters artwork hang on the walls like a Picasso…My grandmothers Enid Collins box purse collection hangs from old wooden spools that were my great Grandmothers…my bedroom..has my first, and both my daughters first baby dolls that lay on the bed…everywhere I look there is love!

Visiting friends and family would be quick to point out my home says BOXER DOG. YOU HAVE CUTE BOXER DOGS AND DOGS ON YOUR WALLS AND PILLOWS AND THINGS. My home also makes clear that owls, hockey, and IKEA are a few of my favorite things. 🙂

This pillow would be a nice change of pace.

My home says we are a family full of LOVE.  Our home is our haven; a place where we spend time together as a family, and where we can rejuvenate after a long day.  From the comfortable furniture, soft blankets, and cozy nooks to our canvassed family photos, my daughter’s handmade light-catchers, and my son’s finger paintings, LOVE abounds.  Our home houses our most important LOVES, and we celebrate that by making it special!

    Sparrow says:

If you walked into my home, you would see that I have a very clear aesthetic: clean lines, simplicity, grey and earth tones, that is slowly creeping through our house. I have 3 little boys, and my husband works ALOT, so our house often gets neglected in favor of cuddling and making huge messes in the kitchen, and trying to keep bikes and critters and dusty outside. I love this pillow. It’s a sentimental design and I’m a romantic at heart.

Eclectic, headstrong, thoughtful, disdainful of plastic and obsessed with plants… and paint-by-number art. Oh, and clearly excessively fond of the color yellow!

    Kate B says:

Right now my home betrays the chaos we’re feeling as we’re getting ready for the birth of our first child in a few weeks. In general, I tend towards clean and graphic things, with pops of color here and there. We are not minimalist, by any means, but we like to be put together and somewhat organized when we get a chance to catch our breath. My husband and I are both modern thinkers with somewhat old-fashioned values and I think that kind of comes through in the way we decorate.
