Ah, March. We are so happy to see you. Even your name inspires movement, focusing on what is ahead, looking forward. March is when all of the slumber from winter starts to shake itself off and we find ourselves stretching our arms above our heads, toward the sky. March has always seemed like the beginning of something, don’t you think? All month we will be focusing on this season of “Awakenings” by showcasing contributors that make us feel, well, awake.

Fani Vogiatzi is a Greek designer who creates stunning handcrafted jewelry and accessories under the moniker Maslinda Designs. Maslinda strives to bring the pretty back to our lives and nothing seems more perfect to launch our foray into awakening from a long, cold season of being bundled up, yes? Vogiatzi’s style is effortless and versatile and vibrant. This Rhinestone Zipper Cuff Bracelet is the perfect amount of edge and shine and I am convinced an armful of these Friendship Bracelets would force a smile on my face no matter the weather. Yes, March. We hear you. And we’ve got Maslinda Designs to show for it.

Maslinda Designs is giving away three Rope Bracelets in Florals to three lucky winners (one each!) To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Tuesday, March 12th.
Please visit Maslinda Designs and tell us: What signifies the beginning of spring for you?

The beginning of spring has no special significance but it is imbued with hope, happiness and expectations. I think humans in a lot of ways resemble flowers, and in spring, we are those eager, somewhat scared buds growing in a stark landscape, wanting to open up to the sun but not yet sure that it is time to do that. Then we make the leap, and bam! The entire world – and our hearts – are blossoming. That is spring to me, inside and out.

March tends to be a disappointing month, because it sounds like spring, but it’s still cold and gray in the Midwest. But there is always that one magic weekend where it’s in the low 70s and everyone whips out their shorts and tank tops and heads outside for exercise and outdoor beers (it IS the Midwest). So, that happy, warm weekend in March, followed by more cold, is my favorite opener to spring, because it reminds us that warmth and sun will return!

I have to laugh when I saw this question, because I was just telling this to a friend the other day–I usually look toward signs of spring like robins, crocus blooming, and budding trees.  However, I realized just this week that my cat started wanting to go outside again, and for me, that was all the sign of spring I needed!

There is a certain “spring” smell that I know means spring is coming soon; like trees beginning to bud, a warmer scent on the wind…
As soon as I begin to smell spring I get cabin fever.  Which I have right now.  I smelled spring last week, but it’s still cold and a little snowy… So I started this years plantings inside yesterday! Helps with the cabin fever 🙂

Where we’re living now, spring is evident when our yard starts getting green. But it’s not from the grass sprouting – it’s the weeds! :/

I get up really pretty early and spend my winter morning commute in the dark. For me spring is on it’s way when I head to my car and can see the sky lit up a bit and the birds are practicing their songs.

Does anyone else remember the quote from great expectations?
“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.”
That back and forth to warm up and cool down from just one moment to the next. That’s how I know it’s spring.

Well I live in Florida so it’s a lot of the same weather all year round.  Except for our occasional cold fronts and scorching summers!  What signifies Spring for me is when the stores start selling gardening supplies, bathing suits, and Easter decorations.  I change the scents of candles that I burn and bring out all of my Spring household items.  Sometimes I even plant flowers.

    Sara Moulton says:

For me, the beginning of spring is evident when it’s that warm-chilly weather that I’m foolish enough to wear flip flops for, but it’s too cold for that.  It’s also those first days where I’m willing to freeze while going for a walk on the beach to take the first spring pictures. I’m grateful that NJ gets all four seasons, but I love when the warmer weather comes.  Love your stuff! I love the nautical feel!
