Here at the BSP, we have quite a long lasting love affair with accessories. We couldn’t very well have a “Daily Dose” monthly theme without honoring one of our favorite daily doses: adornment. Each day, we get ourselves ready to face the world and the very last thing we do (well, at least for me) is choose the accessories.     Books. It sounds cliched, but reading good books gives me hope that there are thoughtful, compassionate, and creative people out there reaching out to one another and the world. Reading reminds me that my life is simultaneously important yet small, and there are so many ideas and experiences left to witness.

    I try to remember how much worse it actually could be. It’s a pretty negative way to stay positive I guess!

    “Go out and join the world.” It’s ok to want to be alone when you’re feeling down, but the sooner you let friends, nature, hobbies or new experiences back in, the sooner the fog begins to lift and the positive begins to outweigh the negative. If you stay in a dark place, however, you will never get to the Bright Side.

    I think back to the worst thing that ever happened to me and remember that nothing can or will ever be that bad again.  I know it’s a little morose, but it works, every time.

    My faith in Jesus keeps me encouraged because I know that He is greater than whatever troubles I am facing at the moment. It doesn’t mean my troubles disappear, but I have the peace and assurance that only He can give. Being in a close community of family and friends also encourages me as well, because we continue to spur one another on and support one another in tough times 🙂

    I remind myself that there’s possibility in everything, but a bad attitude never helps. Or I think about my little humans and how they see me acting. Works every time.

    Last weekend, I was driving along the Columbia Gorge and being totally enthralled and captivated by the wind turbines that were collecting solar energy.  They looked so beautiful and strong and preserverent to me.It reminded me of my secret to staying positive.  KEEP GOING.  STAY ROOTED.  Keep your arms swinging and your feet on the ground where you are at.  This is a “secret”  that has been hard earned for me – I’m a free spirit and I tend to change my plans when things don’t go as I planned.  Now, however, I’m 32 and I’m ready to change my own destiny.  I’m ready to KEEP AT IT!   My secret, as you can maybe guess by what I’ve already said, is by looking and listening to the world around me and letting it help me remember to be myself.  Birds are so good at being birds.  Wind turbines are so good at being wind turbines. Rivers are so good at being rivers. I can be good at being me if I stick with it!  The world reminds me of this.

    This is a bit of an ironic question right now because i’m currently going through a very difficult time. I was just laid off from my job, and this happens to be the third job in a row that this has happened. I have never done anything wrong and it’s always been due to a restructuring. In fact, this time, they had been promising a promotion for the past 6 months and it came out of the blue. To stay positive I try to focus on how lucky I am to have my amazing husband my my side, and keep believing  that i’m going to end up in an even better place. I take time to breathe and enjoy the day, and when my husband comes home I spend as much time with him as I can. And hey, they say third time’s the charm, right?

    It always benefits me to put things into perspective. There is always someone who could use a kind word; a smile. Taking the focus off of myself and putting it on soneone else is my favorite way to make a day brighter for everyone! 🙂 Thank you for this reminder today 🙂

    Honestly, the best way to stay positive would be to accept what situation you are in and ride it out. It might not be what you’re wanting to hear but for me when I’ve accepted my situation I feel better and less pressured.

    I reach this point when I am totally overwhelmed and feel out of control: meltdown time. It’s at these moments when I have to stop trying to control those things that are out of my control and simply focus on what I can change. For the things I can’t, I simply have to accept and embrace that chaos and pain are part of this journey, and that they can teach me something and change me into a more empathetic creature if I will choose a hopeful and grace-filled optimism.

    My way of staying positive in trying times is to get out and excercise. When I excercise my mind wanders and eventually it puts all my worries into perspective.

    Eating chocolate and drinking coffee.  Taking time to indulge and enjoy the little things in life is so important.  It makes me slow down and have a grateful heart and a better attitude and outlook!
