{shop :: Facebook}

You know what I love more than first love of the romantic kind? First love of the platonic kind. My first best friend was right before second grade started. I had just moved into a new neighborhood and we met out on the grass and decided to be best friends when we realized we were going to be in the same class. We stayed inseparable until I moved away again in the beginning of sixth grade. I loved her with ferocity and vividly remember the first flush of finding that person that really got me, you know? We were superstars, partners in crime, sisters. For awhile we even wore matching friendship bracelets. It was ragged and torn but I wish I still had it, to tell you the truth. In fact, the latest trend of fashionable friendship bracelets has me excited to start ordering them again and giving them out the special people in my life.

Grace Michiko Hamann creates gorgeous beaded bracelets under her moniker, Michiko Designs. Marrying Japanese design with a Southwestern aesthetic, Hamann (along with her sister, Coco) create gorgeous, beaded pieces that bring a modern twist the to the nostalgic friendship bracelets of youth. Also a featured maker on BRIKA, their work is whimsical, sophisticated, graphic, and beautiful. This set, in particular, is making me want to call old friends, ride bikes in the afternoon, plan vacation weekends with my girlfriends. You know what is an even better idea? Wear a few on my arm, patterns mixed, to honor my friendship with myself. True love, indeed.

    My friend Kelsey is really more like a sister – we were in kindergarten and she called me and invited me to go for Chinese Food which I had never had.  We went had soo much fun and the rest is history – we have been best friends for almost 20 years!  We live further apart now but when we get together it’s always like no time has passed.

    These are wonderful! And I know exactly who I would gift them to! My two BFFs, we call ourselves the convention crew. You see we are all over the map when it comes to looks, ages and personalities. We met at work and decided that people probably assumed we hung out together only because of work and forced socializing at work conventions. But the truth is we get along SO well despite our many differences. These girls are my heart and I can be my true self around them. Also, one of my girls is allergic to every metal out there, so I’ve never been able to buy the 3 of us bff necklaces. This would be such an amazing alternative.

    My first BFF was in 4th grade. Her name was Natalie and she was the cool girl in 4th grade. All of the boys wanted to chase her on the playground and all of the girls wanted to be her. My heart broke at the end of 4th grade when I found out we were moving and I’d have to leave my bff behind. We kept in touch for quite a while exchanging colorful Lisa Frank note paper, stickers and stories about our latest crushes. Such fond memories!!

    My first best friend was Stacy K.  We meet in class at elementary school and she lived around the corner and three blocks away.  Close enough to ride my bike to her house.  I remember how special it was to have a BEST FRIEND! to play with.  We used to eat lunch together at school and play on the monkey bars at recess.  After school and in the summer time we were all about Barbies and playing pretend. Best Friends are special because you know you can share all the wonderful and awful things in life as well as play together and I was so sad when her family moved away.

    Didn’t meet my 1st best friend until college and even though we don’t see each other as often as we would like the phone calls are numerous and its just like I am there with her. Second best friend I met at the local library after moving away 5 states away from all my family – she had a little boy the same age as mine (2 1/2) and decided to sit next to us for story time and that was it — 14 years later the boys are just like brothers.
    I love the color of these bracelets and that you are giving three of them away is even better!!

    My best friend started off as my boss, as a mentor at my very first job in advertising. I was impressed and intimidated by him and we maintained a strictly professional relationship until he quit that job and moved across the country to a new job in Colorado. He told me I had done well, and might be able to get a job there too. So I flew out, interviewed, got the job, and moved to the mountains. And that’s when he stopped being my boss and became my best friend. I’d never been hiking or camping before; I was more of a beach and city girl than a nature girl. But he taught me the beauty of pushing yourself to the top of a 14,000′ mountain all before dawn, and the beauty of camping in the wilderness with a flask of whiskey and a fire and his company to keep me warm, and I love him for that.

    I met my first best friend in my kindergarten class (there’s even a photo that has the both of us with our moms), and we ended up playing together because our moms both worked as nurses. We also both had a younger (and annoying) brother, and we had brown hair. We would have sleep overs, ride our bikes, and my family would take her with us when we went to a private pool that we were members of. We even took her with us when we drove down to Disneyland for my 10th bday. We were best friends until 8th grade, when we had to attend separate high schools.

    I had never had a best friend until 8th grade, and we went to the same school since 5th grade! We never even noticed each other, since I was shy. His name is Aaron, and he made a Facebook in the beginning of 8th. We started chatting through statuses at first, about our favorite video games and television shows, and we started talking in January through messages EVERY day! We even sent funny pictures of ourselves to each other, and we just clicked. I was so shy to talk to him in person, I never really had close friends, let alone a best friend. But once we got comfortable around each other, ever since then, we’ve been inseparable. We ended up dating months after, in May. He’s my best friend and my boyfriend, and I couldn’t ask for a better combination! For his birthday, I got us matching bracelets, and we tied them on, but later on in the day, I LOST MINE IN THE MALL. I still feel bad and would LOVE for these to be the perfect thing to replace them with! Please consider me. <3

    My cousin, Cassie. We are 6 months apart, and were inseparable in even my earliest memories. She and I had a secret language and always knew what one another were thinking. We would be silly and laugh together, never afraid to be embarrassed. We ran our own newspaper, loved baking cookies and fighting with the dough, and giving one another beautiful makeovers. She now lives hundreds of miles away from me and I rarely get an opportunity to see her, but when I do it’s just like old times in my pink bedroom.

    My best friend is my husband. We met 21 years ago in a restaurant. He was with his friend and I was with my friend. Two weeks after meeting him, he left for 6 months to hike the Appalachian Trail. He stayed in touch with me the whole time he was hiking. He called me when he can. He sent postcards and letters to tell me where he was. I still have them. In one of the letters he said he missed me and his mom. I knew then that he was a good man.

    I met my first best friend on a family vacation while she was vacationing with her family. She may have lived in another state but we were pen pals of the best kind and wrote letters constantly! I loved always racing to the mailbox to see if a letter from her had arrived. I’m so glad that this happened years ago so that I have the physical letters as the best memories….email just isn’t the same 🙂

    Linda on the other side of the woods. We would play every day but never after sunset because a) little girls are not supposed to be out playing after dinner and b) we were both convinced that the forest was full of trolls. 🙂

    My best friend wasn’t like most friends, this best friend was actually imaginary. His name was Charlie. He was a chicken. We were the best of friends, he would go every where I went. There was just one day when I was about 6 and I didn’t have many friends, so I was actually watching TV, and saw this chicken commercial. So born was Charlie the Chicken. Now that I’m 15 he is still my best friend even though not many people know about him. We have been through the ups and downs, even though he is imaginary 🙂
