Photographs are the perfect standby for gift-giving, don’t you think? But sometimes a simple photo can seem, well…generic. (Maybe that’s just me since my parents get photos of the grand kids every year as presents.) How great would it be if the personal perfection of these photos could be translated into artwork that stands the test of time? Well, dear readers. We have found the answer to that question.

My Own Art is the absolute genius shop of Elin Tidbeck. Tidbeck takes your photos and turns them into works of art that will live forever in the hallowed gallery halls of your home. Utilizing her Photoshop skills (and a meticulous eye), she will make your artisitic vision come to life. The Watercolor on Antique Paper is a stunner. And the Vintage Collage is something that is on my list for my family gift this year. I honestly get goosebumps looking at these images. If that isn’t a symptom of finding “The Perfect Gift” I don’t know what is.

My Own Art is giving away one custom digital illustration (print not included) to one lucky winner! To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Tuesday, December 11th. Comments now closed…good luck!
What photo would you have turned into art (and what style of artwork in the shop would you choose)? While we’re at it, tell us the story behind the photo, would you?
Start checking the winner’s box on Monday, December 17th, to see if you’ve won!

What a clever idea!  I beyond adore the retro finish.  I have a great picture of my 3 kids taken years ago now.  They were in a particularly goofy mood that evening & had been running down our long hallway, sliding on the wood floor, across the living room, and crashing in to the kitchen cupboards.  My children are of the rough & tumble variety.  At one point all 3 of them were on the floor in an epic pile up of giggles.  I grabbed the camera & snapped away.  The resulting photo has become the stuff of legends, & we recreate it every few years– now they are 15, 16 & 19 years old, and we are due for a reshoot!!

    what a cool idea!

I have a photo of my 2 year old grandson. he is looking out of a port hole. so it is a little curly red head framed in a white port hole on a clipper ship. It’s so cute and I can iimagine it as part of a ship sailing to the moon or something

i really like the Birds on Canvas, but i would probably put one of my cats or dog in the picture, because i’ve always wanted a piece of art with one of them as the subject. i have a lot of great photos of my greyhound, as she’s very photogenic, so it would probably take a while to pic the perfect shot.

I would choose a photo of my daughter, grandpa, and nephew in the etching four colors style as a gift for my mom.  The photo was taken a few years ago shortly before my grandpa passed away.  It is one of the few images of all of them together so it is very special to my mom and I know she would love having it displayed as a beautiful piece of art.

These photos are so beautiful!  I have so many ideas …
I would definitely choose a photo of my two daughters.  I know I am biased, but they are both so pretty and they would make such a beautiful picture!  🙂  I think birds on canvas would be gorgeous with this picture of them:

This is probably my favorite photo of the two of them.  It showcases their little personalities so well (my oldest is more serious and scholarly, my youngest is just a big ball of energy!)  I think it also shows the love they have for each other … a love that didn’t come through genes or DNA, but that has developed so strongly over the last two years that it makes me swell with pride whenever I see it!

I love the watercolour on antique paper – gorgeous colors!! It would have to be a picture of my husband and i right after we got married – we’re both laughing hysterically and it takes me to my happy place.

I would have a photo of my new dog, sitting on the couch when she was a little puppy…we got her back in June when she was only 2 months old (she’s a shelter dog, part chihuahua and part rat terrier!).  She still acts like a puppy now but certainly does not look like one!

The style of artwork I would choose is “Stripes on Canvas”.

I would choose Etchings 4 color and I would use it for a picture of my boyfriend and I from our vacations this summer. We took a photo with his iphone of us and we are looking at each other so you mainly see our silhouettes. It was totally unplanned but is such a cute photo and really shows the real “us”!

We were at her father’s family’s farm and this picture just encapsulates me and my wee buttons relationship.. It’s us against the world. This picture is so precious to me.

I would go for “Flower Girl” hopefully that’d work for this… hopefully.

I love the watercolors! I am really missing traveling so I would love to get a picture of a far away landscape of a place I am missing terribly and have it printed up with this watercolor pop!

I would MOST definitely take a picture of me in wedding gown and add Yoda to it. My husband would LOVE it! And I bet he’d keep it in his wallet and show all of his friends.

I would want Elin to combine two photos in to one, because I have a two year old son and a 6 month old son, and even though I have several photos of them seperate which are great, it seems to be impossible to get a shot of them both together!! I like several of the styles so not sure which one I would choose maybe retro or water colour…. they are all so good…

I would choose the watercolor grunge, a picture of my two girls when they were four and one at Christmas. So shows their personalities the eldest looking straight at the camera, with a lovely sweet smile and the youngest with a mischievous grin and her hand wrapped up the back of her sister’s waist length hair. Just before the yelling started . We laugh whenever we look at it:)

OMG, what a gorgeous site. I’d love the Watercolour red and orange for our wedding portrait. We had an official photographer who took such boring photos that just one was frame-worthy. The others were just pictures of random people dancing! The lack of good wedding photos has always been a big regret for me (even though we’ve now been married 7 years) and it would be lovely to have a fun portrait to look at!

Oooh I love the stripes on canvas, so retro and fun! I think I would have it made into a gift for my brother, sister-in-law, niece, and their new one who is on the way! And of course their dog 🙂 All together, they are the cutest little family and have so much love for each other despite not having a whole lot of material things….I love them to pieces and am so lucky to call them family. I think a portrait of them on the striped canvas would be lovely.

I have a photograph of my 2 daughters taken at my younger daughters saining (baby blessing) It was a family shot but I cropped it close around them and I feel it is the perfect portrait of them. I would do it in watercolor grunge.

I also have a picture of the two of them rolling around hugging (at 2.5 years and 4 months) that I think would look nice in the watercolor on antique paper. Tis one was taken at a blessing way for a friend.

I would have a photo of my two kids with our dog done, to always remember this moment in time:)  I love the black and white etching with color!  The photo I would used was taken not to long ago, it was just a really happy, peaceful day at home and I finally remembered to take a photo…I usually miss good photo opportunities by not realizing that this moment won’t last forever, I really need to take more pictures!

When I was home for Thanksgiving, my mom showed me some family photos I had never seen, including ones of my grandparents from the 1950s. I never met three of my grandparents but I mostly had seen photos of them looking not so well, whereas these were so vibrant. I’d probably do one of my maternal grandparents, in their horn-rimmed glasses, with my mom in her braids and summer jumper at age 4, in the watercolor style. Lovely work!
