“We will change the world with the stories we tell.” This is the mission of today’s contributor, friends, and I must admit that I can’t get it out of my head. There is something about our collective stories that keeps me present in the every day grind. I am a firm believer that every single one of us has a story, many stories. One of the greatest gifts we give each other is the space where we share them. That is one of the best parts about spending time with you here at the BSP. The community we share, the stories we tell. It is why we come back day after day.

LOVE NAIL TREE was started as a way to share stories through print, jewelry, photography, clothing. Each piece tells a story that either represents you or reflects something back to you about the way you see the world. From graphic prints to jewelry with an antique feel, LOVE NAIL TREE is a treasure chest of pieces that will keep your story moving forward. I am over the moon about the necklace above and this shirt is an absolute must have. What about you, friends? What story will you tell?

LOVE NAIL TREE is giving away any TWO items from their site to one lucky winner! To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Tuesday, February 25th. Comments now closed…good luck!
Please visit LOVE NAIL TREE and tell us: What is something about you that most people (upon meeting you for the first time) wouldn’t suspect?

Something people find shocking about me is I’m really good at video games. Strangely enough, this happened this past weekend. A friend and I went to another friend’s birthday party and they so happened to be playing the new Titanfall beta. They eventually let me play and were all shocked at how good I actually am. I suspect alcohol could’ve been a factor into their amazement, but most people, especially guys, don’t expect me to be as good, if not better, than them.

I try to put up a good front but talking to and meeting new people makes me want to curl up in a corner and cry. I have some serious social anxiety that I work through but I hope it isn’t TOO obvious.

I went through a brief phase in high school where I was a metal fan. (Music, not natural resource.)

I’m a cardigan-wearing, soft-spoken, literature PhD whose iPod consists mostly of Mozart. I hide it well, but the head-banger still lurks.

    Joann says:

I appear very petite, feminine, and girly in general. People are really shocked that I like really nerdy and boyish/manly things. I am a bit free spirited, very relaxed in stressful situations, and I know a lot of fascinating facts about animals.

    Monica Borge says:

Upon first meeting me people are shocked to find out that I used to struggle strongly with depression, anxiety, and self esteem problems. I still deal with touches of it and it does come in waves; however, people are always telling me how happy and friendly I come off. It warms my heart to hear this because it makes them feel better because emotions truly do rub off. Also, I truly didn’t believe that I would ever get to this point in my life where I wake up and feel good about who I am.

    Jennifer says:

People who don’t know me well are always surprised to find what an introvert I am. I tend to be very outgoing with people who I don’t know well. But with a group of old friends, I’m most likely to sit quietly and absorb. And I’m definately more comfortable one-on-one than in a group.

    Erin says:

That I’m a librarian! Most people have this idea that librarians are quiet old ladies surrounded by cats, but the profession has changed so much over the last 20 years. Today’s librarian is more likely to have a tattoo than a cat, and you can actually get a masters degree in library science these days. I’m an extrovert who is super into fashion, design, travel, and horror movies. So yeah.. people are usually pretty shocked when I tell them what I do for a living. In fact, being able to challenge people’s ideas and perceptions about something is one of the great things about my job.

Most people think I am younger than I really am. If only they knew how many gray hairs I pull out! 🙂

    Elizabeth says:

I see so many lovely people who’ve said that people don’t realize they are shy!  I love that!  I’m in that camp, too, but a little bit different.  I think most people who meet me don’t realize how serious, earnest, and cognitively pre-occupied I am.
I come off as a fairly fun, light-hearted kind of lady…which I like.  I want to make people feel good!  But several times since I’ve become an adult, my mom has told me she never realized what a “deep thinker” I am and how I take everything in (and worry about things).  So I think if I can fool my own (wonderful!) mom, most people haven’t a clue.  [Note:  I really like who I am, although I understand that this could be seen as a negative.  I’m okay being an overthinker of things – I continue to learn how that can be an asset to me and not a liability!]
think is on purpose.  I want to bring joy to people, but even my own mother realized at some point that there was a lot more going on than what she saw.

    cindy says:

I think when people meet me they think I am all business, responsible and prudent. Little do they know that I have a wild streak hidden inside that every now and then let’s loose. When those moments strike, I love to play hooky for the day and just do what I feel and see what it is like to live on the other side! 🙂

I know a lot of random Disney trivia…not necessarily the films, but about Disneyland and the company in general. Like, did you know that a “Disney University” was created as a way to train their cast members? It has been around since the 1960s I believe…Also, there are no ACs in those “fur costumes” at the Disney parks (Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, etc).

that my guilty pleasure is watching anime and reading manga (habits from my teenage years!) most people don’t think i do because i look very serious (i have permanent bitch-face syndrome sadly). and that i like doing crafty stuff like crochet (and i’m trying to teach myself how to knit!) it’s quite a “useless” hobby because i live in a tropical and humid country so crochet isn’t very helpful…

    Nikki says:

People never realize that I am an extremely complex person, not demanding or dominating, just deeper and more multi-faceted than I first appear. My husband says it still blows his mind, and my family and friends say that I am unusual (outside the norm–not crazy).  I often wish I could turn my mind “off” and have a more simply life, but the best part is that being this way has made me more aware of other people’s quirks and hidden aspects.

    Anna L says:

People honestly would not expect that I have tattoos.  Many people think with this sweet and innocent face, along with this personable personality, that I’m a squeaky clean girl! WRONG.  As extraordinary as the next person!  Also, tattoos do not make anyone any less approachable!
