 {please visit Peg and Awl here}

My family and I have made a pact this year to eat in as much as possible. For us, a major factor in living “The Good Life” entails family dinner, seated around a table with a delicious and beautiful meal. Let’s be honest: another major factor is the ambience. We tend to serve family style and I have a great secret for elegant, easy entertaining you can incorporate into your own dinner: wood serving boards. From taco ingredients to stacks of sandwiches, wood boards are simple, sophisticated and you will feel like a real chef with minimal effort. (Although maybe that’s just me.) Now, you could just use your cutting board, but we’re talking “The Good Life”, people.

Margaux and Walter Kent from Peg and Awl take discarded relics, wood, and treasures and turn them into practical works of art to use, wear and display.  I also want to shamelessly admit to you that today is my birthday and the fact that I chose Peg and Awl for this post is no coincidence. I have been a fan of theirs for eons and my birthday wishlist is full of their wares. From this to this, over to this and back to this, I am smitten. As far as my family meals go? These Trencher Plates are the cat’s meow, folks. Elegant and rustic, these boards will transform even a simple lunch into a work of art. “The Good Life”? It is full of Peg and Awl.

Peg and Awl is giving away one set of Trencher Plates to one lucky winner! To enter to win, please answer the following question by Tuesday, July 17th.  Comments now closed…good luck!

    Being that it’s summertime and unbearably hot and humid in Chicago, my favorite lunch is a delicious salad. Recently I had my first taste of a chili-ranch dressing which makes for an incredible southwest-flavors salad, with lettuce, corn, black beans, radishes, cucumber, onions, avocado and tortilla chips. Top with queso fresco, cilantro, and a twist of lime, and you could swear you see red rock arches in the distance! Pair with a Mexican Coca-Cola for best results!

It transports me back to being on holiday in northern Cyprus and a great pick me up when it’s raining (constantly) in London!
