This past month we focused on how we can, collectively, “Lean into the Fall” and different variations of the theme have come and gone but one thing remains true: it all boils down to inspiration. The idea that the transitions in our lives are easier met when we allow ourselves to lean into them rather than fight them opens our hearts up to beauty we previously might have passed by. I, for one, am continuously amazed by the fantastic artists and brands we share space with here at the BSP and today’s contributor is no exception.

Jess Marie Griffith is an artist with a grab bag of creative skill and artistry. Pine & Boon, her line of handmade bags and textile designs, is a perfect reflection of a life lived inside the world of inspiration. The Crescent Necklace has a simplicity that absolutely speaks to me and I can’t stop staring at the Abstract Wall Hanging. There is something about it that makes me want to write stories and take pictures. If that isn’t the perfect description of inspiration, I don’t know what is. Visit Pine & Boon and find your fall inspiration.

Pine & Boon is giving away one Dot Pouch in Electric Blue Suede to one lucky winner! To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Tuesday, November 5th. Giveaway now closed…good luck!
Please visit Pine & Boon and tell us: What is inspiring you right this very minute?

Right now, my mom is inspiring me (more of a who than a what). My dad died last January and after 41 fantastic years of marriage, my mom is devastated. But she’s weathering the storm and making an effort each day to rebuild a life for herself. I’m so proud of her and because of her example, I’m able to put aside a little of my own grief and move on, too.

Well, it’s my birthday today and I do like being self-centred on my birthday so bringing forth my own happiness is what’s really inspiring right now. I’m just doing whatever I feel like doing today and sometimes that’s the best inspiration one can ask for! Currently it’s being employed in cooking – forget cake, I’m making this weirdly wonderful mixture of roasted veggies and chicken and my favourite biscuits for dessert. I’m not sure everything will be edible but I had fun preparing everything.

I just picked up Marilynne Robinson’s “Housekeeping,” and the simple beauty of the language is knocking my socks off. I read the same sentence over and over and then I copy my favorites in my journal. I love language and any art that helps me to see my world with new eyes. Seeing anew allows room for gratitude and becoming.

I’m inspired by paper. Sounds silly maybe, but I’ve been working for 6 months on a book chapter and today I finally printed it and am working by hand. It’s amazing! I’m moved by using my actual fingers to write and to read my own work.

Being in a new city has been very inspiring on many levels. It makes you realize how comfortable and routine life was at home and forces you to push your boundaries in order to complete even basic tasks.

Right now, the bright light of an autumn evening in Pennsylvania and the scent of fall. I can’t describe the scent of fall well, but it’s my favorite smell in the world.

A picture that I tore out of a magazine and have sitting in the middle of a beading project. It was so pretty that I wanted to keep looking at it.  I love the colors in the shot and am considering them for how I want to paint the walls of our house, but the textures and dimension of the picture are also influencing how I am laying out beads to make bracelets (Christmas presents!!).

Lately I’ve been noticing how the mountains peak above the trees right outside my front door – the clean autumn air makes them seem so large and bright, inspiring me right from the start of my day that this world is so much bigger than me.

I’m inspired by human resilience. I’m currently in training as a clinical social worker and I marvel every day at an individual’s ability to keep putting one foot in front of the other. There’s a tremendous amount of strength in the willingness to keep going.

Right now, the perseverance and positivity of a friend of mine is inspiring me. I may feel like I’m going through some challenging times right now, but this friend has got her plate full. She has 3 children, one of whom was born with Kleefstra Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that requires constant care. My friend must work a full-time job to ensure they have medical insurance for the numerous procedures and therapies she must undergo. Her daughter has dangerous overnight seizures, and they are constantly going back and forth to the Children’s Hospital. Now, the family is also undertaking a move to a new community. And she never stops being a positive force and a voice for special needs! She and her never-give-up attitude are a HUGE inspiration to me right now to keep my chin up and keep going! If I would be lucky enough to win the draw, I would love for you to send this gorgeous pouch directly to her as a surprise. I’m sure it would be a much-welcomed treat for the many emergency overnight trips to the hospital, a sort of “you matter too!” for her.
