{ please visit altman artworks here }

Ah, spring. For many of you, spring might be only an idea of sorts right now, not a reflection outside your window. For others, you might be walking outside with bare arms, drinking your morning coffee in the sun. Whatever your environment, let’s use “spring” as a way to focus on our minds and our bodies and our souls after months of cold weather and busy schedules. Let’s “Reawaken, Replenish, Renew” ourselves with beautiful reminders of the type of life we want to live and tangible reminders of the things in life that make us happy, shall we?

What better way to kick off our months of “The Three R’s” than with art? I am a firm believer that artwork holds the power to change, to heal, to replenish. Robin Wethe Altman is the type of artist that lives this mantra from head to toe. A native of beautiful Laguna Beach, California, Altman is a fixture in the well-respected art scene in Laguna and has been honored as a Festival of the Arts Scholarship Recipient. Her vibrant watercolors have set her apart from other artists and she works hard to inspire other artists to stay true to themselves and believe that they can make a living doing what they love. Currently, she provides artwork for causes she supports and her combination of passion and talent is at the core of everything we here at BSP hold true: that doing what you love is the key to a happy heart. Yes, dear readers, spring is here!

    My “happy place” is any beach on Maui…as long as it has sun, beautiful clouds, a calming ocean, and happy people around me.

    Growing up my family used to visit this small place in Mexico, Akumal, and we’d stay on the beach. It was quiet and not touristy at all. And for a week it was just my family together. And we always had an amazing time. No phones, or internet, just us. Thinking about being on the beach with them always makes me smile.

    My happy place is my grandparent’s house in Norfolk England. It is perfectly placed in the middle of no where, fields and forests in one direction and beautiful beaches in the other. It’s truely an escape from reality.

    My happy place is where I went to college, University of Dayton, OH.  I love that school and I loved the 4 years I was there.  I love everything about it; the sense of community within the school, the activities available, the neighborhood, the classes, walking everywhere.  That school was my home for those 4 years and I didn’t want to leave!  I lived in Dayton a few years later for a year, then I had to move away again.  I’m so happy to have lots of photos to remember UD by.

    My happy place is the love & contentment I feel when sitting on the deck with my husband and our dog at the end of a warm, sunny day – especially this time of year when the daffodils are blooming and the yard is freshly mowed. Aah….spring is here!

    My happy place is my childhood home. My parents still live there, and with no more children in the house their attention has turned to focus on developing their garden and yard. When I go back to visit during the summertime, it’s so peaceful and lovely. The air is quiet and crisp–a big difference from the big city! It’s so nice to lie in the grass and read a book, or walk through the garden with my parents, picking flowers for a bouquet and eating berries right off the bushes. My favorites are the peonies that my father has planted. They grow so large and beautiful, it really shows how caring and attentive my parents truly are.

    My happy place is my bed! It’s the place where I can calm down when I feel overwhelmed, where I can watch dvds when I feel lonely, where I have breakfast on Sundays, where I make love with my husband, where my mind starts creating new little crochet projects, where I lay in the sun on summer mornings, where I can admire dawn 🙂 I love my bed!!

    There’s a small town in NZ (I’m in Christchurch) called Akaroa. I have family videos from when my parents were still married; when they could talk to eachother & look at eachother- so yes those videos are roughly 20yrs old, but still. They were shot in Akaroa. At “Club Lavaud” (http://www.timesharesnz.com/resort.asp?rid=19) and all around the beaches.

    Long story short- my mum got really sick and they broke up. Each year after Christmas my dad would rent a house for me and him to go stay in and it was ‘our time’. We swam together, we felt the sun, I was little and still held his hand, we ate sweet treats because he hadn’t met his new wife yet (let’s just say she’s strict on food), we ate fish and chips and 2 minute noodles for dinners… These holidays continued for a little while until the new wife came along and brought her 4 devil-children…

    But I still remember the smell of sunblock, the gritty sand in my hair, the jetboat rides, the jelly blue ocean… Life was so carefree back then and I miss it.

    For my 21st birthday next month, me and my partner are having a ‘night off’ from raising our 18 month old (for the first time!) and heading over to Akaroa. We have booked a cruise on the Black Cat cruise (not a big cruise just an hour long!) and then we’re going out for dinner… and all the rest.. staying the night.. Oh I’m so excited. it won’t be swimming weather but it’s my happy place nonetheless.

    My happy place is the couch around 11:00 at night when everyone’s asleep. It’s so quiet and I curl up with my dog and “Pin” away on my computer!
