Friends, summer is officially here! This month, we are shouting from the rooftops “Here Comes the Sun!” One of the ways I like to honor this time of year is by gathering with loved ones and eating/relaxing/spending time outside. From backyard bbqs to trips to the beach, summer is the time of year we let the sun guide our schedules. To this end, the quality entertainer in me comes out. I find myself drawn more and more to the simple beauty of well-curated goods when it comes to entertaining and leaving the (somewhat wasteful) disposables on the shelves. It’s the details, my friends.

Rebecca Miller founded Rustic Loom as away to celebrate and honor textile design from around the world. During her travels, Miller fell in love with traditional textile methods and Rustic Loom became a way for her to bring these  to the rest of the world while offering a sustainable living for the makers who create the goods.  The global-inspired prints in Rustic Loom bring vibrancy and a layered depth to your home. I am over the moon for these Turquoise Plain Tea Towels and this Grey Stripe Toss Pillow. Find your piece of summer at Rustic Loom!

Rustic Loom is giving away one set of 4 Red and Blue Stars & Stripes cotton napkins to one lucky winner! To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Tuesday, June 10th.
Please visit Rustic Loom and tell us: What signifies the beginning of summer for you?
Start checking the winner’s box on Tuesday, June 17th, to see if you’ve won!

Here in Alaska the May Day trees bloom at the end of May instead of the beginning. The smell is a heavenly welcome to warmer weather and looooong sunny days.

Summer starts when you walk into the public library and the summer reading program has begun.  There are banners plastered everywhere and children hopping around with the promise of checking out comic books and that one dinosaur book they love more than life itself.  Every color in the world seems brighter when you see a handful of kids doing summer (pleasure) reading.

I know it’s summer when I start reading novels.  🙂  It’s still a big part of my internal clock.  Summer = fun reading and fun learning.

Berries. Raspberries. Blueberries. Blackberries. Strawberries. Bring on the fresh vanilla bean ice cream and berries. I remember when I was a kid we had a huge raspberry bush on the side of our house, and I would literally sit in there for hours, eating berries, emerging with purple-stained juice up to my elbows.

The 3 month down pour of rain finally stops. I live in a place that a soon as spring hits it continuously rains for months without stopping. The cars are always muddy and it always feel damp. Suddenly one day it all stops and the clouds part and it’s beautiful out. That’s when it’s summer. When my towels finally dry all the way.

When it’s warm enough to hit the beach and play volleyball, get in the water, and have a picnic.  Also, summer is the time when you can stay out late, laying on a blanket, watching the stars after the sunset.  Love it 🙂
