Isn’t if funny how we are so quick to spread love to others and leave ourselves in the dust? It seems that in most aspects of living, we put ourselves at the bottom of the list and (often) forget to show ourselves the love at all. This can be said about our delegation of time, our energy spent, our attention. Think about your skin, for example. I, for one, know that I am hyper aware of what goes in my body and where my food comes from and what medications I am prescribed and for what reason. But when it comes to skincare, I only recently have started paying attention to what goes ON my skin. From sunscreen to lotion to lip balm, my choices generally were basd on price, smell, and packaging. (I’m a total sucker for great packaging.) Seems my awareness needs to catch up and start paying attention to my skin.

Adina Grigore started creating products for her uber-sensitive skin and wasn’t sure if other people would even like them. But like them, they did. S.W. Basics of Brooklyn is a line of skincare where every product is made with all-natural (as in REALLY, not just labeled so) and eco-conscious ingredients. In fact, every product contains five or less ingredients because, really, that is all that is needed. Less is definitely more. My two small children are obsessed with lip balm recently and I am absolutely going to order a handful of the Cocoa Lip Balm for them (since they love anything chocolate) and this Cream seems like exactly the answer I need for my (recently) temperamental skin. S.W. Basics is a shop filled with self-love, the absolute best kind. More love, less unnecessary nonsense.

S.W. Basics is giving away two sets of The Bestsellers Mini Kit to two lucky winners (one each)! To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Tuesday, August 20th. *Contest open to residents of U.S. and Canada only!* Comments now closed…good luck!
Please visit S.W. Basics and tell us: What is the nicest thing you have done for yourself lately?
Start checking the winner’s box on Monday, August 26th, to see if you’ve won!

I have changed the back ground and lock screen on my phone to a gentle reminder –

I really need to stop hating my body,
    because this is the body
I will need for the highest mountains,
    and the steepest valleys.
This is the body I will love with,
dance with, write with, shout with.
So I better start loving it,
no matter whether it’s not exactly
what I wished it would be.

    This body is mine.

Trying to love myself first, before I expect another to love me unconditionally.

I let myself fall in love. After a 4 year-long engagement and an incredibly bitter break up, I spent a whole year swearing off men, dating & any kind of affection. January 26, 2013 I met a handsome man at a bar who I eagerly exchanged phone numbers with and waited impatiently for his call. We now live together and I can honestly say, the nicest thing I’ve done for myself lately is let the walls down & fall in love.

I can honestly say I’ve now gotten to the point where I can look in the mirror and call myself beautiful. It helps that I have such uplifting friends and family and for a long time I didn’t believe them, choosing instead to bathe them in compliments. But I’ve had moments where I can let their generous words sink in and agree with what they say without sounding conceited. So it’s not just about what I can do for myself it’s also about what others have and are doing for me and I’m being completely appreciative. Thank you for reading whether I win or not 🙂

Well for me, I work out on a daily basis. I jog 2 miles and walk 4 miles and I eat healthy everyday. I carry myself with a positive attitude everyday. Even when problems arise, I always remain optimistic and try to see the brighter side of life. My friends and family see me as a confident individual who strives to be successful in everything I do. I wasn’t always like this, but I decided it was time to stop hating myself and love who I am. I always spread my positive attitude to others and make them happy to themselves too.  I’m happy and proud to be in my skin.

I’ve been working 2 jobs while being a full-time student for the past two years, which included summer semesters and rarely any breaks, I just graduated yesterday. I’m only 21. I’m allowing myself to travel up to NY for a week to see my family that I haven’t seen since Christmas to celebrate.

Definitely [ very recently] coming out and telling my friends and family that I was gay! It was such a relief, and I felt like I owed myself the respect (to be who I wanted).

    Taylor Andrews says:

I take a quiet moment for just me. I stop, breathe, and forgive myself. I am gentle with myself. I let myself exist without expectations or doubt. Sometimes this means doing something I want but feel guilty for wanting, like watching trashy tv or eating two pieces of cake. Sometimes it’s letting myself go to sleep early, or remembering it’s okay to miss people I once loved, or accepting that I will never be perfect and who I am now is plenty good enough.  My gift to myself is acceptance and forgiveness for all the self-cruelty I have inflicting in the not-so-distant past.  It is embracing who I am.

I absolutely just bought a piece of carrot cake for myself 10 minutes ago. Perhaps this sounds lame, but I’ve grown up in a family plagued by eating disorders. So, this is a major triumph for me. F you world. I love cake.

I accept myself as myself first and foremost.  Perfection is an delusion.  We are all make unique like a snowflake.  What is something good that I do for myself is make achievable goals, when I accomplish them I celebrate my victory joyously with my friends and family.  What I have done for myself lately that I think is pretty awesome is started using all organic shea butter items and I keep my S.W.Basic COCOA LIP BALM at my desk so I make sure that I am putting the best stuff out there on my life as well.  The best thing one can do for themselves is loving and accepting your individuality in a holistic manner instead of focus on weight or size 🙂

The most nicest thing I have done for myself lately is to let go. I am one of those that always has a plan, always constantly on task, all work and no play. Here recently I have met someone who has changed my lifestyle for the better, not the worse. I have allowed myself to enjoy every moment, to not make plans for every little thing. I have learned that it is okay to make mistakes, to sleep in on occasions, to take breaks. I have learned to love myself for who I am. That is the nicest thing I have done recently for myself.

The Muslim holy month of Ramadan recently ended & during that I spent a lot of time reading Quran (holy book), praying, asking for forgiveness, going to the mosque, listening to lectures & trying to remember god. I learned a lot (still learning) & during this time my chronic pain actually reduced. Its was amazing. Before 2012 I wasn’t very religious but then my mom became severely ill & I learned the power of prayer. So to answer the question the best thing I did for myself is spend a few hrs each day in rememberance of god/become more religious.
