Giveaway :: Scotch Naturals

Tuesday, December 13, 2011

It happens every year. The holidays come ringing in and my fingers start singing for some festivity of their own. I can go the entire year with bare, natural nails. But once it starts to smell like winter, it is party time on my fingertips. I am one of those ladies that swoons when she finds nail polish in her stocking. True story. It is the one gift I have always loved since I was small. The one thing that has changed is my level of taste. Gone are the days of cheap, toxic polish that doesn't last. I am much more particular and aware of the brands I support and much prefer quantity over quality.

Scotch Naturals has become a new favorite, to be sure. Offering an eco-friendly alternative to the toxic nail polish we're all used to, Scotch Naturals is water-based and free of all toxic chemicals. Don't be fooled by their feel good approach to nail polish; their palette is vibrant and varied and you will find the perfect shades for yourself or that special someone in your life who loves to celebrate their nails as much as the next person. And by 'next person', I mean me.

Scotch Naturals is giving away one Cocktail Trio  (including three WaterColors, Top Coat and Base Coat) to one lucky reader. To enter to win, please answer the following question by Tuesday, December 20th.

What is your absolute favorite holiday tradition?
Please begin checking the winners box on December 22, 2011 to see if you've won. Good luck!

    I love getting together with my sisters at our grandmother’s house to do the Christmas baking (mountains of it). Gran taught us to bake when we were kids and now all of us have children of our own to teach. It always makes me so happy seeing my family together at Christmas.

    My favorite holiday tradition involves lying, deception, and fox-like trickery. I’m talking about gift fake-outs. Misleading packaging, pretending there are no more gifts left, etc. For example, last year my significant other really wanted a video game, which I bought for him. But the gift I presented to him was a leather Dopp kit. He loved it, but I knew he was expecting the video game. Only at the last moment did I say, “Oh! I think there’s one more gift under the tree!”

    My favourite holiday tradition is leaving Father Christmas footprints on the floor for the children to see in the morning, all you need is some icing sugar, glitter and a boot and the effect is amazing! Really looks like Santa has walked through your house with snowy boots! My parents did this for me and my sisters and I love doing it for my daughter, it makes Christmas even more magical!

    my folks host a massive open house on christmas eve. my whole family looooves christmas, but i live in a different city now, so it’s such a lovely chance to see everyone at once, put on something sparkly and drink something bubbly. my mom and i spend a couple of days putting together a feast of nibbles, and we light candles, eat, drink and enjoy each others’ company.

    Favorite holiday tradition? hmm..This is tough. My children and I spend our morning alone and the afternoon with friends. Our large family get together is usually the week before Christmas and it helps keep down any feelings of being rushed on Christmas day. Also, I truly like that our holiday meal has changed from ham and all the trimmings to pizza!

    Once the house is quite at night, no one else stirring, I will turn off all but the tree lights, then sit with a cuppa hot spice tea, stare at the lights and reflect upon the past year.

    Baking cookies for Santa with my little sister. I don’t get the time to cook or bake much, so even though I’m in my late 20’s, “Santa” is the best excuse for my sister and I to spend some time together and make a delicious batch of cookies from a new recipe.

    My favorite holiday tradition is my grandmother’s pinwheel cookies. While she doesn’t think anyone truly appreciates them, we always reassure her that we absolutely do. There is nothing like waking up in the morning with my sisters and coming down to a roomful of beautifully wrapped gifts, and wonderful family and the scent of brown sugar and cinnamon. My grandma’s cookies with milk are a Christmas only occassion and I will treasure her baking always. Now that she is getting older, I plan to get her recipe and continue the tradition even after she lives only in my heart.

    I love driving around with my family to look at Christmas lights around town. We always have Christmas music playing on the radio. I have fond memories of doing the same as a child with my parents and siblings, so it is fun to carry on the tradition with my own kids.

    My brother and sister come over on Christmas eve and we play Scrabble while watching A Christmas Story (there may be some drinking of Christmas cheer involved as well;) – after that we take a walk around my neighbourhood to look at the lights. It’s my favourite time of year.

    My family usually goes to church on Christmas even around 8 PM, but I love to go back for the midnight service. It is quiet and peaceful with lovely music and candlelight. I love to sit afterward for a while and reflect on my year and how lucky I am to have another beautiful Christmas with my family and friends.

    My Oma and Opa immigrated to Canada while they were pregnant with my Dad. They left most of their Dutch traditions in Holland choosing to assimilate into Canadian culture. Anyways, the one real Dutch tradition they kept alive was the giving of a chocolate letter for Christmas. Every year I knew to expect my chocolate A. It’s my favourite Christmas tradition because it reminds me of my heritage and who doesn’t love chocolate?!? ๐Ÿ™‚
