We all have our little mantras that speak to us. Be it a song lyric, a phrase, a mantra…everyone has something that helps them carry their sunshine throughout the day. I have different examples of this sprinkled throughout my own home. From the vintage maps to the “A Beautiful Thing Is Never Perfect” print hanging on the fridge, our walls are decorated with pieces of our hearts so that we remember to stay true to ourselves. There is a light that belongs to such reminders. Much like sunshine.
Spunky Fluff owner and designer Kristen Bangs creates gorgeous little reminders for the world to enjoy. Each custom sign is a reflection of the entire philosophy behind The Bright Side Project: that life is (still) beautiful. Personally, I am uplifted by any typographical reference (you can see my favorites in the top photo!) and that second sign is something that should hang in every woman’s restroom, don’t you think? I could get used to reading that to myself every morning. Even now, reading it made me smile. Try it. “You are beautiful. Yes, you.” Now tell me your smile isn’t as bright as the sun.

It’s Only Temporary

Love One Another.
I would probably do “The Force is Strong With This One” or “May the Force be With You” for my son’s future Star Wars room (when he’s not sharing with his little sister).
i would love all the letters of the alphabet, as i’m a writer
not technically a saying, but i love the little chickens! they would look cute in a kitchen or bathroom
Mine would say “awake my soul” love that lyric from Mumford & Sons.
Never grow a wishbone where your backbone ought to be… or “The rest is fiction”
Love life and laugh.
Bonjour.
ko au te awa ko te awa ko au (maori for ‘i am the river, the river is me’)
C’est la Vie.
It sounds crazy but I would have my sign say “Creation Perfection Priority” – it’s related to my job and would look great in my office.
I am a librarian so Read books can take you anywhere!
“Ice cream is happiness”
for my sister that is opening up an ice cream shop in Missouri
Oh man, I have a few I would love for my son. I would have to think for a while to decide:
“This is your world.
Shape it or someone else will” (or just “this is your world”)
“Make your mark on the world”
his full name for over his bed
It would be hard to decide! I really like the ampersand, but I also would love to have the word “Namaste.”
Je t’aime
I’ve loved this shop for awhile now!! I think I would want one of those alphabet signs for my soon-to-be son’s room!!
it IS hard to decide. i think either “every little thing is going to be alright” (from a favorite song), or “run over by the drunken taxicabs of absolute reality” (from a favorite poem)…or you know, the alphabet. because it’s lovely.
‘This Too Shall Pass” – Thanks so much for the chance!
Don’t worry about a thing cause every little thing is gonna be alright
Bob Marley lyrics
“when in doubt, turn right” – my personal motto, and the best why you can avoid getting lost.
I’d put it in my kitchen and it would say “coffee served here” because everyone stops by for coffee lol
Bon Appetit, for the kitchen would be so cute!
Love these !!! Mine would say Carpe Diem or Live, Love, Leave A Legacy
Wow! Such fantastic pieces! I just started a new job and am on the search for art to hang in my office…. right now, it’s very gray…. so I think I would need something bright, that makes me smile. I think it might have to be…. “Just Keep Swimming!”
‘love life. be brave.’
Those 4 works sum up what I would love my perspective in life to be!
BE NICE OR LEAVE…..
the entire alphabet – would be cute in our playroom, or the word Paseo
‘Every Day is an Adventure’
“Bonus intra melior exi.”
It is the motto of the graduate school where I just got my PhD. In these bewildered post-PhD times, I would love a reminder of how important all that hard work was!
I’m thinking of ” Carpe Diem” or ” Still moving under gunfire”
they are my favorites
i would probably just want something really simple, like a text smiley face “: )” or a text heart “<3" !
When I was twenty-one I had Leukemia. Don’t worry, it’s all good…I handled that. But when I was done with chemo and radiation and heading back to school for my last year of college, I remember feeling like an 80 year old trapped in a twenty something body. I looked at all the students, traipsing about their lives, and I wanted to shout; “Do you have any idea what’s out there? How freakin’ awesome it is to be able to sit in class and fall asleep from boredom? To lounge on the grass at lunch and flick ants off your sandwich? To walk, talk, stand and use the bathroom without complication?” (I’ll spare you the details on that last one…
When I was a teenager, the movie Beaches came out and for some reason the Bette Midler song, ”Still Got My Health,” caught my attention. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAPSmvfvXnI) Without knowing how relevant the song would be, I latched on, playing the tune over and over and singing at the top of my lungs, to my entire family’s great irritation. My favorite lyric was “So what do I care?!”
In that small phrase, for me at least, is the nostalgia of having one’s health in the unquestionalbe way of youth, the idea of letting go of trivial problems, and a bit of irreverent attitude for all things in life…
So that’s what my sign would say…”So What Do I Care?!” And it would probably have to be deep purple, since that’s my Mom’s favorite color and she quite literally gave me life…and then saved it 21 years later. Might have to give her the sign actually… She deserves a bit of “So What Do I Care?!”
to quote Tom Waits… “I look good without a shirt on.”
Lyrics to “Honey Bee” by Blake Shelton. My husband and I didn’t have a song when we got married, and I let him pick a surprise first dance song (approved by my Maid of Honor). He even managed to convince the band to learn how to play it! They thought it was hilarious that the bride gave up control.
If you’ll be my soft and sweet
I’ll be your strong and steady
You be my glass of wine
I’ll be your shot of whiskey
You be my sunny day
I’ll be your shade tree
You be my honeysuckle
I’ll be your honey bee
“For thou art not alone but alive” I debated about getting this tattooed on my body. If you knew me you would know that I have 5 word/phrase tattoos in various places all meaning different things at different points in my life. This phrase was left in a love note from my boyfriend who recently passed in the beginning of our relationship when we spent our first night apart… bittersweet but beautiful.
We are only passing through or good day sunshine
“Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future” -Oscar Wilde
or “I am a woman and my business is to hold things together” -F. Scott Fitzgerald
I love beach music!
I would love mine to say: “it’s okay to not be okay”
Thanks for hosting this lovely giveaway!
Mine would say “RELAX.” I think it’s incredibly important to stop and take a breath from time to time!
Time is Love
“Everything you can imagine is real.” ― Pablo Picasso
“The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more, that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds.”
If thats too long, “There are places I remember, all my life…”
I need to decide between 2: “scrimshaw and maggie” (our nicknames for the other spouse), and “don’t pursue happiness. create it”.
“Nothing Else Matters”
It’s the name of the song we danced to at our wedding and what we have engraved in our rings. It’s also a great reminder about where our priorities lay.
“Today I Marry My Best Friend”
the first line of our marriage vows.
