We couldn’t very well have a month long theme about “June Bloom” without delving feet first into color, now could we? Since the bloom is all about the flourish, the pop of color, we searched far and wide to find you an artist/designer who embodied the very essence of what color represents. We wanted you to feel the full depth of color theory, the intuitive reaction you experience when you see a color that moves you. We wanted you to…well, bloom.

Pamela Foeckler of Totem Color Blocks has spent the last ten years working in fine art conservation, immersed in the most basic form of color. This attention to depth and specificity has given her an appreciation for color in its most pure state and hue and saturation are aspects that move her to the core. This type of passion shows. When you view Foeckler’s pieces in her shop, Totem Color Blocks, you find yourself quiet and absorbed in the intention behind each piece. There is a serenity in these gorgeous talismans that feel as though you found something you were looking for all along. Personally, this Gold Leaf Necklace is something that calls my name insistently and this Wood Sculpture is breathtaking. The bloom, friends. This is what we are talking about.

My favorite color is orange, because it’s such a happy color. I gravitate toward bright colors, especially in my wardrobe, but as for decor, I prefer color, but more classic colors. For example, my kitchen cupboards are painted brick red, my entryway is a mossy green, and my hallway is a deep lavender. The accent wall in my bedroom is a dark blue.

I find myself gravitating to the gray and chartreuse colors! I think the combo of the gray and green go so well together, along with the fact that they are my favorite colors, the green just screams Summer! It reminds me of laying in fields of grass or flowers, feeling the breeze against my face, and staring up at the big blue sky 🙂

I like to keep my décor classic (tans, greys, blues) because they feel cool, calm, and clean. I keep my wardrobe bright (reds, blues, yellows, greens) because they are energetic, youthful, and give me a feeling of boldness. In my jewelry, I aim to make a statement, so it’s big and generally in contrast to whatever I’m wearing, but also colorful.

Even though I have several favorite colors, I seem to be drawn to blues and purples…I think because they look calming and remind me of water and the ocean. When I look at my wardrobe, I notice I have lots of different shades of blue shirts. The colors I respond to for my clothes are neutrals (greens, browns, black) for pants, and then colorful tops. For jewelry, I like jewelry where you can really see the color, such as painted wood or gems.

Sapphire blue, like the stone in my wedding ring, because it is so deep and dark and mysterious. Coral pink for lipstick and nailpolish because it is sexy, fresh, and looks like summertime.  The whole range of aqua to turquoise, especially in ombre design, because every shade is just so beautiful (I want to paint the walls of our house like this).  Velvety eggplant purple, mink brown, english lavender, lemon yellow, industrial grey–there are so many colors I love but the deepest darkest midnight sapphire blue is my favorite.

My friend always laughs at me when we go shopping, because at least 40% of what I pick up to try on is in some form of a rich blue-green. Not only is it having A Moment in the stores, I just adore it and it looks fabulous with my coloring. I have also been gravitating toward mustard yellow and emerald green (and was thrilled when it was named Pantone’s color of the year, hopefully it’ll lead to even more gorgeous green dresses). I love to pair these pops of color with a grounded navy or grey.

No matter how hard try to get something different when out shopping – I always end up with blues, greens, and purples!! I love the deep, rich colors but also have some lighter versions and these colors just seem to go with everything – from black, to gray and even khaki!!

I love the color yellow. I feel like it is a bright and sunny color, which always keeps me cheerful! It is also my grandmother’s favorite color, so yellow anything makes me think of her and her kind spirit. I love wearing yellow for clothing and accessories, but I honestly just love bright colors for any and all fashion! Even if I am wearing black, I must spice up my outfit with bright colors, which would be perfect if I had those Josef Albers earring 🙂

Color preference seems to be correlated to mood, don’t you think? When I’m decorating and want to create a place to relax, I choose cool blues. When I’m getting a pedicure and I want pretty feet, I choose a happy hot pink. When I think about my favorite piece of jewelry, and the prettiest piece I’ve ever seen, I think about the deep sapphire blue of my engagement ring. But when I think of the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen, I think of my husband’s aqua blue eyes.

My favorite color in the world is a bright plum with majenta undertones. It was the color we used in our wedding (along with black white and gray) and the color just sung to me. It was beautiful, vivid and exciting. I love decorating with that color and I smile every time I see it.
As far as colors for clothes, I love aquas, sea greens and deep peacock inspired shades. Personally, I like them because they make my eyes brighten, but I think they also give off the impression that I am an approachable person and friendly. Maybe its because my mood ring always told me that blue meant happy/love, but I am always attracted to people who wear blue and have a smile on their face.
