{please visit Vic & Albie here}

The January I was 12 years old, I traveled with a friend and her family to spend a week in Cabo San Lucas. You would think the vacation itself would have been the pinnacle of excitement, but it wasn’t. It was the packing. It’s true. I spend the week prior to any trip organizing, making lists, prepping my suitcase and making sure I have all of the necessary accouterments for smart travel. When I was 12, my mom gifted me a fabulously soft, lined jewelry organizer. I lovingly wrapped my bangles, earrings, watches, necklaces in this fantastic contraption and immediately felt like a world traveler. (I never wore any of the jewelry on my vacation, but that is another story altogether.)

The mother and daughter team, Elaine and Kathryn Pybus, behind Vic & Albie have created a line of gorgeously crafted jewelry organizers that can carry you through your travels (from far and away lands to the weekend stay-cation.) Marrying form and function with utter sophistication, the Pybus ladies understand that style is a reflection of our best selves and we don’t have to sacrifice beauty in order to be practical. Plus, imagine the space you would save using these to store jewelry at home. (I’ve got this Herringbone Maple Jewelry Roll wish-listed for this exact reason.) Nothing says “The Good Life” quite like beautiful organization.

Vic & Albie is giving one Sparrows in Vintage Yellow Travel Jewelry Roll Organizerto one lucky winner! To enter to win, please answer the following question by Monday, July 16th. Comments now closed…good luck!

I love vacationing at home! My home is my sanctuary and there is no place more relaxing than my own living room floor – I can spend lazy days sprawling there, drinking gallons of complicated tea, reading all the novels I’ve been too busy to read during the work week… besides, there is nothing better than being a tourist in your own city, getting to know it in a new and exciting way.

My favorite place on Earth is Taos, New Mexico. The weather is often perfect. There are few biting insects. There is plenty to do (or not do) all year ’round. The mountains, the sky, the sagebrush – The FOOD. No place is Latin-American food so celebrated. There is a constant bowl of green chile stew, passole, and the perfect tamales. KTAO is the only radio station that comes in, and really the only one you need. Inside the “Enchanted Circle” is magical indeed.

So simple to answer this: Maui. I never get tired of that island, there is so much to explore, and I love the Hawaiian way of life. It also holds many childhood memories for me, so it’s almost a tradition to vacation there.

We saved up for a vacation to New Zealand for years. The teeny tiny village of Marahau is (in my opinion) the most wonderful and beautiful place in the world. The hiking is breathtaking in more ways than one and the beach is something out of a dream. We made our first baby there and I hope to go back someday.

The South of Germany! I love those small villages, each with a brewerie, the local markets full of fresh vegetables, the fields where you can pick up flowers and leave your money in a small metal box (and nobody is there to control, there is great confidence!!), children wearing their traditional clothing, forests of pine trees, fresh air, little blue lakes, and above you blue  Bavarian sky with white clouds running fast…

I like to vacation in the woods in Michigan. It’s far enough away to feel like a vacation (I live in the cornfields of IL) but close enough that I feel like I can relate to it. It’s hard for me to really settle in for relaxation if the environment feels foreign to me.

My favorite place to vacation is the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina b/c that is where we always vacationed when I was a child. Although the small town we visited over 20 yrs ago has changed a little through the years, it still holds somewhat of an old fashioned charm and makes me reminisce about my childhood. It’s beautiful to be able to show my kids the same experiences and change in scenery that I always enjoyed when I was younger. (BONUS – we live in Florida, and the mountains are a great place to escape the heat!)

The North Shore on Lake Superior. It’s the most peaceful, awe inspiring place. I try to go at least once per summer to unwind and breathe in the fresh air.

as a woman without kids, maybe it’s a little cheesy of me to say DISNEYLAND! but i really enjoy going there on a vacation. there are no hard decisions to make, food, drinks and restrooms are plentiful and it’s really a vacation from the real word in a way nothing else is. (on the other hand, i love the beach…and the english country side..and i haven’t been to….there’s a lot of cool places to go!)

    Rebecca says:

My favourite place is Las Vegas! It is like Disney World for grownups. I always have such a good time there. You can lounge by the pool and go to a spa, you can hit the strip and shop till you drop, you can grab a quick bite or have a luxurious sit down dinner, you can see shows or try your luck in the casino. Vegas is my fave!

I like to go where everyone knows my name… and the resort in Mexico where my husband and I went for our honeymoon is that place. I loved being there enjoying the sun and making friends with the local wait staff who always greeted us with a smile and knew our names. I can’t wait to go back for our 3 year anniversary next october!

I don’t actually have one favourite place to vacation, because my parents made a point of always taking us to new places! I would have to say that visiting my Grandparents and aunt/uncle in England is my favourite vacation though because it always feels utterly relaxing to loll around the farmhouse and become a part of their lives again. Though I long to live closer, it is so special when I travel that distance to see them.

Spanish moss, the sound of horses trotting through tall grass, and the smell of a hot breakfast every morning make my grandparents’ house in a tiny town outside of Montgomery, Alabama my favorite place to vacation. It is nearly impossible not to feel at peace in that place.

    Sam Adams says:

Grand Haven, Michigan. I’m pretty happy spending ta week on the far side of a B&B’s backyard in Lake Michigan. Later the sun sets, floating on laughter and s’mores smoke.

RomeRomeRomeRomeRome. It is my favourite foreign city to visit and I’ll go back in a heartbeat. The world, on the other hand, likes to come where I am right now – Goa, on the west coast of India. What’s that they say about the grass being greener…

Costa Rica was a wonderful trip… the beaches and ocean, the rainforest hikes, the wildlife (monkeys visited our deck!), the local food. Natural, raw beauty. Rising with the sunrise before the full heat of the day, exploring, and then every day like clockwork a massive rainstorm would cool things down and give us a real show while we enjoyed meals and drinks together.

Thailand! I vacationed there with family friends over 5 years ago, and it’ll always be one of my most memorable trips. I remember waking up every morning and stuffing myself with the freshest exotic fruits for breakfast (rambutan, star fruit, mangosteen.. you name it!). We rode elephants, bargained for clothes on the streets, visited Buddhist temples, and even watched their famous drag show. It was my first time traveling outside of North America, and I loved learning about Thailand and exploring a new culture I knew little about before. I definitely want to go back someday with friends, family, or even for my honeymoon! I love vacations that are exciting and educational too :]

My husband and I went to Spain on our honeymoon and it was phenomenal. Beautiful architecture (I spent all of Barcelona soaking in Gaudi’s work), amazing culture, and delicious food. It’s hard to call it my favorite since I’ve only been the one time, but I’d go back again and am pretty sure I’d enjoy it just as much!
