{please visit Wall Envy Art here}

It is always during this time of year that I find myself seeking inspiration. As summer stretches herself out, taffy-like, I find myself holding onto her with strength and hope. There is always something about the potential of keeping summer alive inside of us that renews my need to surround myself with positive and exciting artwork and literature. I am an avid vintage book collector and a fledgling typography nerd so any medium that combines the two is the perfect fix. As I carry this “Endless Summer” into fall, I find myself so excited to share my new finds with you.

Wall Envy Art is a treasure. Louise Verity combines the simple earthiness of vintage book pages with a gorgeous hand drawn font to create perfect pieces of art that speak to the bibliophile in all of us. Each piece is handprinted and framed with beautiful blocks created by her family. This is eco-conscious art with style. This Oscar Wilde piece featured a favorite quote of mine and seems perfectly fitting for that little dose of inspiration I need to keep myself swinging through this last bit of “Endless Summer.” My fall is looking warmer than ever.

Wall Envy Art is giving away two ‘To Thine Own Self Be True’ framed typographic art pieces to two lucky winners (one each!) To enter to win, please answer the following question by Wednesday, September 26th. Comments now closed…good luck!

    Okay, I don’t really have a favourite movie quote, but seeing as I’m always reading, I do have a favourite book quote. From Karen Marie Moning’s Shadowfever: “Hope strengthens, fear kills.” As someone with anxiety issues, it’s very important for me to remember that.

    From Into the Wild:
    “So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”

    From Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?
    You seek a great fortune, you three who are now in chains. You will find a fortune, though it will not be the one you seek. But first… first you must travel a long and difficult road, a road fraught with peril. Mm-hmm. You shall see thangs, wonderful to tell. You shall see a… a cow… on the roof of a cotton house, ha. And, oh, so many startlements. I cannot tell you how long this road shall be, but fear not the obstacles in your path, for fate has vouchsafed your reward. Though the road may wind, yea, your hearts grow weary, still shall ye follow them, even unto your salvation.

    My favorite has always been Audrey Hepburn’s little speech in Breakfast at Tiffany’s: Holly: “You know those days when you get the Mean Reds?” Paul: “The mean reds, you mean like the blues?” Holly: “No, the blues are because you’re getting fat or it’s been raining too long. You’re just sad, that’s all. But the Mean Reds are horrible. Suddenly you’re afraid, and you don’t know what you’re afraid of. Do you ever get that feeling?” Paul: “No.” Holly: “Well when I get it, the only thing that does any good is to jump into a cab and go to Tiffany’s! Calms me down right away. The quietness and the proud look of it. Nothing very bad could happen to you there, If I could find a real life place that made me feel like Tiffany’s, then I’d buy some furniture and give the cat a name!”

    River: I do. But I like to hear you say it.
    Mal: Love. You can learn all the math in the ‘Verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don’t love, she’ll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she’s hurtin’ ‘fore she keens. Makes her a home.

    It’s not a pleasant quote, but “I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen” from Say Anything is both memorable and PERFECTLY encapsulates one of the most awful break-up scenes I’ve ever watched.
