January’s mission to focus on the positive side of things, to take a “New Perspective”, has really got me excited about 2014. Now that we are at the halfway point in the month, I find myself looking at the world around me with fresh eyes and paying close attention to the things that make me happiest. Today, I am so excited to bring you the marriage of two of these things: jewelry and nature.

Sharon Goldberg of With Roots uses her background in photography to create gorgeous works of living art in her line With Roots. Every piece is a tiny, live terrarium and there aren’t adequate words for me to convey to you, dear readers, how excited Goldberg’s work makes me. This Terrarium Curve Necklace is absolute perfection, don’t you think? I, for one, think With Roots is the kind of shop that will remind you day in and day out that life is, indeed, beautiful.

With Roots is giving away one Terrarium Globe Necklace to one lucky winner. To enter to win, please answer the following question no later than Wednesday, January 22nd. *Giveaway open to US residents only.* Giveaway now closed…good luck!
Please visit With Roots and tell us: What is your idea of the perfect way to spend a day off?
Start checking the winner’s box on Monday, January 27th, to see if you’ve won!

This time of year the perfect way to spend a day off is sleeping in, then curled up under a cozy blanket on the couch with a hot drink and a movie, book or video game, maybe ending with dinner with friends.

A great day off would include the following things: waking up with my cats curled around my legs and getting to pet them for a bit before getting out of bed, a book I’m having a hard time putting down, a new recipe that I’m excited to try (and that turns out well!), a chat with a friend, an episode or two of TV that I’m enraptured by, fluffy slippers, a long hot bath (preferably where the water somehow STAYS hot for as long as I want to soak!), and some good music to dance around to.

Where I stay at home and putter at things that please me (not chores or obligations) and my family is around and they are doing things that please them too (messing around in the barn or on the motorcycles) and we grill ribs for dinner and sit around the firepit after it gets dark.  I love days like that!  Everybody moves at their own schedule and everyone enjoys what it is they’re doing.  And then the talking and laughing is fantastic, and memories are made and our home feels like it suits us instead of us working to take care of it.

A perfect day off for me is 24 hours of not having to do what is expected of me. No appointments, no meetings, no places I have to be, no people I have to please. That may sound a little grumpy but I truly think as human beings we need to spend more idle time taking the day as it comes – exploring what it feels like to just live in the present moment of your day, your time, and your place – not knowing what or how you will spend it.  Truly free.

My favorite way to spend a day off with with a good novel & lots of coffee. My ideal day off, however, would be spent at some kind of spa being pampered, primped, and massaged all day long…but who has the $$ for such luxury?

Oh my gosh! It’s a tiny greenhouse!

If I had a day off, I’d meet a friend for breakfast at the bagel shop in town, pack a swimsuit and Jhumpa Lahiri’s newest book, and spend the day at Lake Berryessa.

Ooohhhhh…..a day off! That sounds glorious and makes me want to play hooky! The ultimate day off for me would be a day of silence! Between work and kids and the world, things can be so noisy sometimes! And while sometimes I enjoy the noise, every once in a while it is nice to just enjoy the silence and truly feel and see everything surrounding you. And so—-a day of quiet!

I would sleep in for a couple hours, or just spend the morning reading in bed. Then I’d take myself out to lunch and sit outside. Probably eat a panini or something. I would then head to my local thift clothing store to look around (and possibly buy something, but only one thing!). After coming home, I’d take my two dogs out for a long walk. Then I’d make dinner…something simple, like pasta and sauce. I’d pop in a DVD to watch while eating dinner.

A perfect day off would start off having some tea/ coffee time at my favorite cafe. Followed by a long walk with my sweetie at our local park that is famous for its trees and flowers. For dinner we can bring home taco’s from my favorite taco truck and watch a cozy movie on his laptop at home . Nothing too adventurous, but relaxing at best <3

I’m a stay at home mom, so I don’t get to take any days off! I can’t imagine spending a day without my little one, even though some days are rough. My idea of a perfect day off would be sleeping in until 9:00 and then spending the day with my husband and son. Maybe we would go to a museum or a park and pack a picnic lunch. In the evening we would all snuggle up together on the couch and watch a movie or play a board game. Then we would put our son to bed and he would fall asleep right away so my hubby and I could have some much needed adult time! 🙂

I love that you said that inspiration can be found everywhere. If I had a day off, I would go on a hunt…it would include hiking in the mountains and then going to the Getty Museum. Between these two sources of beauty, I would feel full.

    Elizabeth says:

The perfect day for me is one in which I FEEL connected to my family.  I’ve felt it on special days when we go to the zoo, when we go the beach, or even when we hang around the house and do (literally) nothing (maybe some uno).  Sometimes coffee helps, but mostly it’s just the acceleration of my heart and feels like joy bubbling up inside of me to enjoy these people so much.  I never go to bed so happy.
